Hi
Yeah, the bosses in Super C are a lot easier than in Contra, but at least the levels themselves are harder.

Sorry Master-88, but I won't be doing a Super Probotector (Contra III) run.  Surprisingly, I've never owned nor played the game on the SNES.  I have a GBA remake though.  I also don't think anybody here is interested in doing low% Contra/Probotector runs besides me, or if they are, they probably give up after realizing how challenging it is.  And from what you're telling me about the difficulty of hard mode in Contra III, I highly doubt anyone will take up the low% task.

Croc-Doc, your Super C comments were quite entertaining.  I liked the idea of Scorpion actually recording the whole thing and the idea that the aliens had "good music blasting through the place" in stage four.

I just recorded a new Super C run that is about 20 seconds faster than my run that got rejected.
Hi
Thanks for liking the comments vgmrsepitome.  I would've responded earlier, but email notification for this topic somehow turned off.

I can't wait to see your run.  I thought your last attempt was pretty tight, so a massive 20 sec improvement I'll need to see to believe.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
Awesome.

Great job! sounds like a big improvement, can't wait to see it. One thing I forgot to mention (not that it will help now) is that in the first overhead stage, stay to the right side on the first tank and then just turn diagonally to kill it (I keep the force gun in this stage). Then continue straight, kill the first tank on the right, turn diagonally and kill the tank on the left, then continue on as normal.

Anyways, thats just a small thing, but 20 seconds sounds like a big improvement and i think it will look great.
Hi! I'm andrewg!

If you are a verifier for my Super C run, read this post.

Some of you might be wondering why I wait at the fifth boss.  On tasvideos.org, I read that the boss isn't immediately vulnerable: "Note that the boss can be hit sooner, but cannot be damaged sooner. In fact, hitting him before he was vulnerable appeared to slow him down in getting vulnerable."

The same thing applies to the mini-boss on stage three: "The spider mini boss can only be hit once it shoots, but when this happened appeared to be manipulatable. Being close to him made him fire sooner." Here's the link to the TAS comments if anyone wants to read more: http://tasvideos.org/1490S.html.

After I jump out of the water in stage three, there are so many enemies behind me that the game lags. But at least one verifier rejected my previous run because I turned around too much to shoot enemies.  So lag be damned, I wasn't about to turn around.

Some people think that keeping fire throughout the entire game would be better than keeping spread.  From what I tested, I found that using fire isn't faster in every case.  Also, when you have fire, the likelihood of getting killed by the bubble showers at the beginning of stage four is insanely high.

Yea, fire is definately no good on that section where you have to shoot downwards through those breakable bricks.
You should just mention to the verifiers that the shooting behind was to avoid lag -> lower overall speed is desired, whether it "looks" right or not.

Letting the game lag at that spot probably only cost me half of a second, if that.  I wish Super C had an on-screen timer like the Ninja Gaidens do.
wise fwom yo gwave
Yea its tough to tell if the lag even matters sometimes. If its just one of those "lag a bit, then stop, then lag a bit, stop," it doesn't seem like it costs much time, the big ones are those "long constant lag" moments.

Hi! I'm andrewg!
Nice run. Smiley

A few hesitations, but a very nice run. I'm looking forward to someone getting sub 14 now.
Hi
Excellent job man!

Anyone up to the task is going to have a hell of a time improving this.  And no, I won't be trying.

Thanks, fellas.

Has anyone tried speedrunning Super C while keeping fire the entire time?
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I haven't. Looking at your signature, were you beaten in one of the ninja gaiden games?
Cigar Man
Yeah, LigerOfFortune beat my Ninja Gaiden III run.

Yea i've tried. Problems i've encountered are obviously getting by the bubbles, fighting the boss of that stage, and shooting downwards through the breakable blocks. I've tried random strategies to avoid these problems. I will probably have to try something else more consistent though.

Some of your boss battles were really f'ing fast though, you beat the 3rd boss just barely slower than I usually do with F.

Found something really weird today, was shooting at the 2nd set of tanks in stage 2, destroyed the first one, and the screen kept scrolling, allowing me to bypass the second tank. Idk how the hell i did it at all either. Weirdest thing i've ever had happen while playing this game, i have no idea how to replicate it because i do the same thing i always do.

Also, in the earthquake zone of stage 3, i somehow died but didn't, the screen kept scrolling, stuck me at the boss section with the music but no boss and an inability to move.
Reminds me of the time I died, but I beat the level in the third level. Right after the spider boss, the music played that usually plays when you beat the level. My guy started running forwards and ran off the cliff. I then appeared in the next level... Probably some system glitch on that one.

Has anyone played Operation C for Game Boy?  I had forgotten about this game, but I used to play it all the time.  It's a Contra game, so obviously it's very speedrun-able.  There's a TAS of the game at tasvideos.org.

i used to own it. I don't have a gameboy player/don't really care about doing a run myself, but would love to see a run done. new topic?

Is anyone trying speedrun PAL versio with this game? (Probotector 2 return of evil force)

I make three playthrought runs all is done without cheats and without continue losts. But every run includes some deaths
V1: 26.34 (youtube)
V2: 25.43 (youtube)
V3: 23.46 (recorded but not in youtube)

My latest one includes 6 deaths total. I just mess up level 5 totally when i got three deaths here, this cost me most, because i lost my best weapon before boss fight.

I got this game my virtual console 1-2 week ago. I am interested speedrun that. My next goal is try got 21 minutes. I hope 3-or less deaths.

My question is how many minutes PAL versio is slower speedrun? WR in SDA is 14.06.  i believe it is something 18 minutes on PAL?
And is there anymore version difference between those versions?
I want off the ride....
if you go by the 5/6 rule. so take the time * 6/5... then 14:06 equates -> 16:55.2

If you are planning on submitting to SDA i suggest that you NO DEATHS the game. I know that it might be hard, but for contra, deaths = not optimal speed.
