Suncon v 1.0: A Florida Speedrun Meetup! February 4th-8th, 2016

After several months of discussion and planning, we would like to announce SunCon, a speedrun meetup in the Sunshine State of Florida, USA!

First and foremost, we are holding this to have fun, and to do it together. Often times, speedrun assemblies occur in the Northeastern or Western USA, and we southern folk are left out of the mix. Secondly, we are holding this showcase the talents of those who may not always get to show off what they are able to do and how they are able to break games. Thirdly, we are doing this to meet each other, build camaraderie, and to get to know fellow speedrunners and gamers in our area (and even some who are coming in from out of town!)

This event is being held not to raise funds, not to generate donations, and not to support a cause. This event is being held only for the fun of it. We want for all of the participants and viewers to feel like we are participating in a party with some games being played, and not participating in a gaming event with some hanging out on the side. When it's all said and done, I would like for the participants and viewers to say "wow, that was fun" even if the games don't go as planned or something goes awry.

While the participants are, for the most part, selected, we are still in the stages of planning who is going to play what, and when they will be playing. Having said that, the schedule we will be creating will not be a "hard" schedule - it will be a guideline, and not a rulebook. During this event, we intend to NOT play overnight unless a runner volunteers (that way, everyone can hang out every night), we plan to have some Guitar Hero playing and contests, and we plan to break early one day to go to a Distant Worlds concert. If during the event, a game is scheduled and a runner decides "you know what, I think I want to play xxxxx instead," then that's what we are going with.

The Public Planning Link can be accessed at https://goo.gl/TUYp4b and will be updated as new information (chosen runs, schedules, etc) are planned. We will be broadcasting this event at http://www.twitch.tv/catastrophic4.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, or thoughts, please feel free to ask them on this thread! Thank you in advance for your support, cooperation, and viewership!

Special thanks to DreadSRL (aka KeyboredCowboy) for creating the logo for Suncon 2016! We encourage anyone who wishes to help promote this event to download this and display it during your streams!

The first draft of the schedule has been completed! You can check out all of the submitted and selected games at https://goo.gl/TUYp4b. This schedule is subject to change (and almost certainly will change), but the selected games will almost certainly remain the same!
I'm potentially interested in attending. What part of the state is this being held at?
The event will be in the Tampa, FL area. Currently, I don't know how much more room I have for people to come, but as things change, the opportunity might open. Contact me via a private thread or on twitter @Catastrophic_4 and we can discuss it.
Strim, progrim
I'll be there! Still planning Castlevania 1 & 3 on Sunday for me?

Maybe another bonus game if time permits? I can promise it will be ... musical? Dramatic? Filled with superheroic incompetence?
I am still planning on that, but things may change a bit - the availability of a couple of people is going to cause me to move some Monday runs to Saturday. I will keep you apprised.
raising the stakes on being bad!
I will most likely do Mega Man X2 shoryukenless, and Mega Man x3 100%.
or ill do a good chunk of pirate wares 3 NG+ possibly the whole game (because Jump is unfortunately is not routed :<)
both of which should be within the estimate i gave .
if you would like to pull me im fine with it.
also if you need some high end gear i have a hdmi slitter to strip the copy protection of ps3/ps4's, an SC 512 micomsoft  internal cap card ( so let me know ahead of time if you need it) one of the same cap cards GDQ uses, and a few other gadgets that the GDQS use, so ask me and i might have it.

I am also fine if some one(up to four are) is coming in from Orlando and needs a ride to tampa just make sure they let me now a head of time not the day of i can do 4 people but i doubt i can hold 4 suitcases.
Stay chill, be cool.
I still plan on running Valkyria Chronicles II and I'm keeping my estimate.  The run will probably get optimized even more, but marathon luck can still strike in the worst way possible.

Doritos: Dash of Destruction is a given though.  thumbsup
The_Sid, whatever run you want to do in your time is fine with me. I don't want you to feel obligated to run anything - I will leave "Jump" in the planning doc until you let me know for sure with time estimates and stuff, but I am very much down with MegaMan.

Also, here is the most recent draft of the schedule! Looks like we have about 40 hours worth of gaming coming your way! Hypeeeeee!!
