Suncon v 1.0: A Florida Speedrun Meetup! February 4th-8th, 2016
After several months of discussion and planning, we would like to announce SunCon, a speedrun meetup in the Sunshine State of Florida, USA!
First and foremost, we are holding this to have fun, and to do it together. Often times, speedrun assemblies occur in the Northeastern or Western USA, and we southern folk are left out of the mix. Secondly, we are holding this showcase the talents of those who may not always get to show off what they are able to do and how they are able to break games. Thirdly, we are doing this to meet each other, build camaraderie, and to get to know fellow speedrunners and gamers in our area (and even some who are coming in from out of town!)
This event is being held not to raise funds, not to generate donations, and not to support a cause. This event is being held only for the fun of it. We want for all of the participants and viewers to feel like we are participating in a party with some games being played, and not participating in a gaming event with some hanging out on the side. When it's all said and done, I would like for the participants and viewers to say "wow, that was fun" even if the games don't go as planned or something goes awry.
While the participants are, for the most part, selected, we are still in the stages of planning who is going to play what, and when they will be playing. Having said that, the schedule we will be creating will not be a "hard" schedule - it will be a guideline, and not a rulebook. During this event, we intend to NOT play overnight unless a runner volunteers (that way, everyone can hang out every night), we plan to have some Guitar Hero playing and contests, and we plan to break early one day to go to a Distant Worlds concert. If during the event, a game is scheduled and a runner decides "you know what, I think I want to play xxxxx instead," then that's what we are going with.
The Public Planning Link can be accessed at https://goo.gl/TUYp4b and will be updated as new information (chosen runs, schedules, etc) are planned. We will be broadcasting this event at http://www.twitch.tv/catastrophic4.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, or thoughts, please feel free to ask them on this thread! Thank you in advance for your support, cooperation, and viewership!
