My feelings on The Demon Rush
I know Essentia is hosting this marathon, but she said it was okay if I made the rules thread.
First and foremost, if you are attending the marathon, there is a $25 charge that will go towards internet, food, and the grand prize 3DS with OOT 3D. You can pay Essentia at her Paypal address, which is fouressentia and it's a yahoo.com address. You can probably pay her by check too, but I don't know her address.
I would say 25 dollars is more than a reasonable price to pay for 3 or 4 nights stay + food
General
-First and foremost, Essentia is letting you stay at her house. Please respect her house, keep it clean and respect her rules (and Denton's). It's very nice of Essentia and Denton to offer their house in the first place, so try to make sure they're willing to offer it a second time. The house rules will be covered in the second post.
-DON'T LITTER! This seems incredibly obvious, but AGDQ proved otherwise. After you eat, put your food in the trash, and your dishes wherever Essentia wants them (if they're not paper). Treat Essentia's home like your own and throw away your stuff in a trash can or a recycling bin, not on the floor.
--For the sake of everyone else, shower regularly*. Also, make sure you pack enough clean clothes for the marathon. Having 2 or 3 fresh pairs of clothes shouldn't be a challenge.
-If you're really bad about showering, then the Emptyeye clause will kick in: "If Essentia/Denton/Romscout decide you smell, they have the right to Febreze you; if you refuse, they have the right to tell you to get out and don't come back until you take a damn shower."
Games
-I am putting romscout in charge of last-minute decisions and approving games/challenge/prizes. He proved himself organizing JRDQ, and he said he's coming to SGDQ.
-Do not try to add or remove games without Mike or Rom's permission. We are running on a schedule, and it is best we follow it.
-Be prepared! Don't bother asking if it's okay to gather your stuff and get things ready for the next game, you were already given permission when your run was put on the schedule. Make sure you are ready with game and controller in hand at least 5 minutes before your game is up. If you're not sure when your game is up, then ask someone.
-Challenges are generally permitted, but only if they're requested by someone in the chat. If a challenge is going to make us go over the allotted time in the schedule by 5+ minutes, then ask Mike (I'll be in the stream chat) or Romscout about it.
-Bidding wars should end when the game is powered on, unless if the bidding war is during something in the middle of the game.
-The Carcarian rule: Once the game is running. DON'T TOUCH ANY OF THE WIRES OR CONSOLES. There is a good chance you could screw something up. If a long run is going to start, then make sure you've moved all of your stuff out of the console/computer area beforehand. We're just lucky Yoshi Island auto-saves, and only a switcher was hit during Chrono Trigger, but much worse can happen.
-The Halo rule: This was a rule at CGDQ, but I didn't mention it for AGDQ because I didn't think it was a problem. It goes without saying that I was wrong. If your run is bad, it will be mercy killed. There is no objective way of determining whether a run is bad, but the only one that really deserved to be mercy killed was Halo (this is throughout all 3 marathons BTW). It was less of a speedrun and more of a fight for survival, there were numerous mistakes, and Cody said he hadn't practiced the game in 2 years. So there's your guideline. If people are unsure, Romscout has the final say on mercy-killing.
Commentary
-Our stream is pg-13. You can occasionally swear, but don't do an f-bomb rant, only a few comedians can pull them off well (and trust me, you're not one of them), and you might burn Essentia's ears.
-Commentary order is: Runner, then anyone on the commentary couch if they're talking about the game, commentator guy on the computer, then everyone else. If the commentary is less serious, then really just the commentator guy on the laptop gets priority when he's reading off donations and such.
-Commentary couch is just that, for people who commentate. If you're not going to commentate, then DON'T BE ON THE COUCH. You might get kicked off the couch if you're not commentating.
-Laptop warriors get lowest priority on the camera. You might be doing a good job of tracking the chat using a laptop, but you're not doing a good job of paying attention to anything else.
-The chat is not a teleprompter. Do not say everything that is mentioned in the chat. Not only is it impossible to do, your commentary will be poor as a result.
-On a similar note, in-game text is not a script. Not every line on screen needs to be spoken out loud. However, it's okay to do on occasion, if it's a really good or fun line.
-Do not plan surprises. Surprises are only surprising if they surprise everyone. Planning a surprise annoys people and comes off as contrived. The one exception is prizes.
-Do not speak ill of the charity, even if you don't agree with what they do 100%. Organization for Autism Research is a good charity and have gone out of their way to support us (they made a paypal account like PCF); I'd like to return the favor.
-You also shouldn't put down other sites and charity groups, it's petty and makes us look bad.
-The same thing goes for forum members. If you have a beef with someone, keep it off-stream.
-Respect Serious Time. It shouldn't happen often, but there are going to be moments when people need to focus, and if they want everyone to be quiet, then BE QUIET. (commentators mentioning donation comments can go on as normal).
-On the other hand, don't be the little boy who cried serious time. If you start yelling serious time every five minutes, then no one will respect it (nor should they).
-If you're responding to someone in the chat - particularly if it's for something important like donations or prizes - please mention who actually made the comment. Saying "someone says" doesn't really sound charming.
-No responding to anyone whose name starts with "J" and ends with "H10".
This will be pretty obvious to most people not to feed troll behavior in general, but if we have a few known trolls then just flat out ignoring them is the best way to handle them.
-If you break the above rules too often or disrupt the commentary too much, Romscout will pull you from commentary at his discretion. Or maybe someone will if I keep on complaining in the chat.
-Most importantly, have fun! One of the reasons why the last marathon was so great is because the atmosphere was casual, and we all relaxed and had fun. Don't worry too much and it will be good.
