Aaand after extensive testing, it looks like I'm close to start attempting a complete run. It's going to be jarring knowing that the run can be failed in the blink of an eye so I guess I'll have to get used to it.
Actualy scratch that. The Egg Emperor is being a massive pain. I have to make sure things go etchy-sketch for each boss or it will be a wreck.
EDIT: I'm recording, then this happens! Let out some wtf's here?
Perhaps because you switched character just as you got nailed? Perhaps Sonic got hit, Knuckles got hit while he was not the main, while switching him to the main?
Yeah I know. I've been having the strangeness happen more often. Even Team Rose.
I was going to wait a little longer and create a new SH thread but... I suppose procrastination isn't a good idea. Nah.
(It also doesn't help that I started playing FFXII... dang.)
As things are now, I could actually record the run... but since I was crazy enough to do single segment, it's going to be a little while before I get a good sampling. The first attamps could have been it because each boss was near-perfect. (like Albatross in 58 seconds).
And since this keeps getting destroyed, I'm going to have to keep trying. I swear, Team Sonic's story going to be beaten in less than 90 minutes. I'll be using my file so we don't have to have that Emblem collected bit after every stage... or I could use a new file for authenticity... (probably not)
After I buy my new GCN I will speedrun this game too. For real this time.. My run will probably be SS but without all A-ranks. I plan on practicing untill my christmas holiday and then I'll start attempting and recording the real thing so hopefully it will be on the site in the beginning of next year. Just to let you all know.
It seems Final Fortress's curse on me still exists. At the very end of Final Fortress on my Team Rose speedrun, I missed a rail and fell off. And I had a very good sub 3:00 Grand Metropolis run...
So after doing it a few times through, I think that I can start recording. I've been having relatively good success rates with game completion. and maybe... 3 minutes worth of error.
But again... Single Segment is a BASTARD. I must have tried Team Rose alone like 50 times, and each time varied quite a bit. Only a mere 2 of those were 8 seconds. Ugh...
No matter, bosses are looking good so I'm going to keep at it.
Before I retry the run, I'm gonna have to decide whether I'll try to switch back to the middle rail after passing the 3 spiked balls on the last rail of Final Fortress. That's where I screwed up before. Perhaps I should just switch rails once at that area.
I just got back into this game, so I'll assist you two wherever I can - however, my area of expertise in this game is with the Chaotix. And I can't see a speedrun with them being done any time soon.
The biggest problem I can see with a Chaotix speedrun, mike, is the randomness of the slot machines on Casino Park. Avoiding detection by frog on Frog Forest will be easy, but avoiding enemy detection on Egg Fleet and defeating the necessary ones while remaining inconspicuous might be a small hassle.
And Casino Park and Bingo Highway are the 2 levels all teams will struggle on, due to how much control you get on the pinball tables (which is almost no control at all). That and the stupid giant cannons on Bullet Station.
I didn't know there was a thread for this game until now. Anyway, I've started playing this game again, and I'll give my help to anyone that is doing a run.
I would speedrun this game myself, but I'm lacking capture equipment to record this, so I won't be able to make any runs.
if this is still being thought out and someone wants it done I can help out. Thing is I dont want to give out too much of what I know. Then again if eredani helps out maybe I could smooch off of him >_>
Sonic is the easiest to TA IMO and the most fun. Rose I hate due to slowness and a bad rocket accel, then again they have the TB effects on their side as well. Dark is a pain because of the planning you have to do and would be too much of a strain. Chaotix...they are a mixed bag really. Also it would be easier for a A rank run then TAing all the way through...less stressful (and this game gives a lot of it)
Meanwhile, I'm pile-driving Team Sonic with some determination. Their stages at first won't be too long, but I'm trying to maintain an A-rank all throughout. So I'm speeding with a few seconds discarded to earn enough points.
I just have to fix this "Overpeaking" problem my powered-splitter is giving me. Nate said the run would be rejected if the audio does that, so I'm looking for a fix. Meanwhile, I think I'll practice each stage individually and see what I can get.
1st and 3rd levels will be particularly tricky since they want 60,000 points. The rest can be accumulated with points from Time Bonus.
I know this is taking a long time, but I'm going to finish this run, and maybe consider some alternatives if I can.
I thought the strategy for Egg Emperor was to fly up and use Thunder Shoot and just hope that one shot gets stuck between him and the shield (dealing three damage over and over until he dies). Even if you don't get a kill, you end up with a Team Blast as he moves away, so that should finish him off.
Still, losing a run on Egg Emperor = suck. What kind of times were you getting?

I *think* I remember that actually happening to me once, although I didn't think there was a way to intentional get it to happen. Just thought it was a random fluke in a game and series full of them.
