Thread title:
Willing to teach you the impossible
Crap, I was just thinking about making this. I am getting this in about 4 hours and will prolly not sleep at all tonight.

I have no intentions of running this game myself, but I WILL be well versed in this and am gunna be a verifier for any run of this game.

Also, don't expect to see me around for like... the next 2 months. I will make the marathon but after that I will be gone again for roughly 4-6 months playing this game
Pac is Back
I'm extremely excited to see what direction speedrunning in this game goes.  I will hopefully be joining in the process, though not right at the start.

I don't know much about the past games, but does magic seem like the way to go?  I was looking at an Orc for my first playthrough because of his racial for 60 seconds of 2x dps and 1/2 enemy dps, which means we could probably beat any hard encounter we want without being leveled up as much as they'd want us to be, right?  Just speculation of course.  I'll be getting my hands on the game some time in the next few weeks Sad
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
I got a pro tip. Jump on item, jump infinitely, win game. 10 bucks says Bethseda are still too retarded to fix that.

WOW.
Ok, now I have had time to play it, let's look at some observations -

- Sprinting and stamina will be key. (Khajiit?).
- Melee and two-handed are the best methods of attacking.
- Magic is redundent excpet for Restoration.
- It's easy to get money!
- Main campaign is actually quite short when you think about it.

@Cryptic: Fixed I think Sad

More to follow...
Remember to constantly use the shout power as well. Maybe if there's an easy amulet of talos to pick up (15% less shout recharge), that could be useful.
Hax I used all of my strengthz
Some tips i would recommend to make a good run for skyrim

-Put all points into stamina upon level up
-Always have whirlwind sprint equipped and on cooldown (except when another shout is needed)
-To reduce travel time to major cities you can get caught by guards and thrown into nearest jail (this has worked for me in riften)
-Possibly start with two handers unless your magic/shouts get more powerful (Archery is fairly weak early on compared to magic)
-Hope for some good random drops, especially weapons or certain spell tomes
There seems to be a lot of leveling exploits for various skills.

Hmm, I think I have a few different observations then you guys.

-Why Stamina, you can just hit 'T' when you ran out of stamina and wait an hour and you have full stamina for free. (takes around 1 second)
-To reduce traveltime between mayor citys I would recomment to use carriages :>, its insta travel and cost 20-50 gold. You can get that easily.
-I also dont understand why not to use magic, its kinda not necessary to get imba drops, you instantly get mana and hp back up with just waiting an hour as well, only thing is you need to be out of combat, but I didnt had problems at all with that when I tested it tbh. You also dont need to kill too many enemys and for the dragons I would recomment to have something ranged anyway, but well I am not 100% sure which is the best yet either.
-Another trick I found how to fast level is buying the spell courage which you can buy really early in the game, you can just spam that "buff" on any ally and you level really fast, use 'T' (waiting) again to refill mana when your pool is depleded. I used that in parts of the game I had to listen to NPCs talk anyway so you actually do not loose to much time with that.
-Waiting also will make NPC move instantly to their next waypoint, which saves a lot of time where you can just watch the NPCs move slowly to their target.

There are actually a ton of more things I found but not everything pops to my mind right now.
I might record some stuff to show you some of my ideas.

I've found an exploit that could work on most places you're supposed to go to. I actually havn't cleared the main quest myself yet but here's a video I did of a possible exploit. I did this on pc but it should be possible on all versions:

The really sweet! Do you know if you can activate the main quest from up there?

You should be able to. I did this pretty much directly after getting Lydia so you can get up there at any point. You could also do it to skip some of the caves that are just intermediary between points (might be faster at some instances where there's a pussle).

But as you can see on the map in the beginning, I havn't talked to the greybeards yet and so the trigger for even the shout isn't activated. I don't know when in the story it activates but since they say that "you'll know yourself when you can get up there" it might be so that everything in between is skippable... I don't know so feel free to experiment :).

@TimpZ nice find, I am not so sure it you can use it at this point, I think you need clear skies atleast for the last fight and as far as I know you can only trigger the greybeards to give it to you by fulfilling the questchain beforehand. And if you'd get clearskies, I think walking there would be faster from the location you get clearskies.

Btw, a random question, where exactly is the end of Skyrim? After you killed Alduin a 2nd time?
Yea, I'm not gonna stick in here for too long seeing I don't want anything spoiled for me. However, I did find a potentially useful trick of getting out of Whiterun. When you first enter the city go to the right and jump onto the smelter. From there you jump to the signpost and then to the Warmaidens roof. Move towards the wall and use whirlwind shout to the thingy and blah blah you're out of the city. It seems to be like in Oblivion when you jumped out of Anvil and the world was only partly loaded but I'm not sure, didn't dare exploiting it farther.

Whirlwind spirit shout seems to be the key to succes in this game, already found plenty of ways to skip huge chunks of dungeons using it.
Willing to teach you the impossible
Question on timing for this game. Time starts when control is gained at the point when you get up from the chopping block (assuming because you only pick char details up to that point. But what about time ending? My thoughts would be in two places. Either the final loading screen leaving the land of the dead heading back to Skyrim, or once back in Skyrim the last dialog chat with the dragon. Either once has a frame where timing can be taken from. But most likely timing would be from the save file shown in the "System" menu. Thoughts?

Hmm, I think talking to the dragon after you killed Alduin in the land of dead finishes the main quest but I am not sure, so maybe go for that one because before the main quest is still not "completed". But I could be wrong ^^.

Balls jerky
I've been doing that jump climbing thing the whole time (also on PC). Screw trying to find all the roads to go around/through the mountains. I'd rather just go right over them. I didn't know that was some unknown exploit.

^Same, one of the reasons why I like this more than most RPGs, actual freedom of movement.

Also tried to see if it would be possible to climb the mountain east of Skyrim and essentially skip everything. Invisible barriers everywhere, unsurprisingly Sad .

EDIT:
Just thought of a potential Alduin strategy. Use the stealth exploit like in the video I posted and get all the sneak attack perks. In the final battle he's mostly distracted by your allies so in theory it might be possible to use sneak attacks on him.

EDIT:
Tried if it was possible to get to the tomb of Jurgen Windcaller without Whirlwind Shout. It's doable, but the note is not there so it's no use.

Getting the Elder Scroll before doing anything else seems possible (I used a ton of noclip, if there's some obstacle I might have missed it), but completely useless because Paarthunax won't be at Throat of the World to tell you to use it.
Just by the way how the mainquest is set up, I don't think any sequence breaking of it is possible, since you always need to finish the last quest to start the next.

It might be possible to get the elder scroll without visiting the guy north of winterhold on the ice, I at least found a second cube, but I haven't found a second ball thing to activate the elevator.
The second cube is in the dwemer museum in Markath, to be precise, in the laboratory after you pass through the museum and the next zone.
But I think you need to finish the quest either way.
Not a Zelda 2 refrence
it seems to me that with sprinting and no armor you can outrun every enemy so there should be very few enemies you need to fight, dragons mostly I think
Pac is Back
First playthrough was 8 hours 50 mins.  Next one I'll be trying a different weapon style and hope to bring it down to < 7 without any other types of improvement.  I barely remember a lot of the solutions to stuff I got lost on anyways, so I will probably make a lot of the same mistakes!  Then I figure with two runs under my belt I'll actually get down to real practice, instead of simply playing normally + not doing side quests.  Is SDA timing when you first take control of the character, or is that TG timing?
I found a way to seemingly always get an amulet of talos (reduces shout cooldown):
You can loot the beheaded guy in Solitude, he has one.
Does anyone have a good map of Skyrim? Would be useful for checkin distances.

The Dwemer elevator to Alftand Cathedral near Winterhold can be clipped into a little. It's not quite enough to reach the elevator from below, but maybe some pots could give the needed extra height? If that was possible there would still be an annoyance though, there's a master level lock right after the elevator.

On a side note, I found some pics from the Bethesda speedrun race, both of the guys who got 2:16 used  high elves.
WOW.

Any idea why? I normally use Dark Elf.
^No, they only had pics of the final times, in which races were shown too. I guess they used mages or abused Highborn, those are the best reasons to use high elves.

I tried this, didn't seem useful. The whole map was there, it was just missing all NPCs and things such as rocks and buildings kept disappearing as I walked closer. I didn't test what happens if you try to enter something because every building/cave I approached became invisible and I couldn't find the entrances.
