@MikeyLeet: Use OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) It's by far the easiest way to capture and record something from your screen without the annoying watermark.

And I'm having some problems with the short-hops, especially in the BK1 fight. I don't know if it's only timing or my controller just sucks that bad (it's a real possibility) but it requires a great deal of concentration to me to make the lowest possible jump. Any tips?
Ruling the cosmos!
It's just a rhythm. If you aren't jumping low enough then I would say it's a controller problem, but you still have to make sure you have the right rhythm of when you are and aren't holding down right and when you press the button.

not holding down right? uhm...
EDIT: Ok that was simpler that I thought. I tried jumping then attcking but just mashing jump+atk at the same time works wonderfully

Sloppy start but I decided to just keep going.

You can see my new ToF:E and BK3 strats in here too.
100% 1:39:29.17 (Might be WR)

Took a hell of a lot of time routing out, and I'm positive there is a lot optimization to be done still.  I'm happy with the run overall.  100% is really fun and quite the change of pace from any%
@Savez: Thanks for the tip!  If you want to consistently do the shortest possible jump, you can spam the jump and attack buttons at the same time.  You'll attack a bit faster so it may throw off your rhythm a bit, but honestly I find it preferable.  Like just literally hit both buttons with your thumb repeatedly, may take a bit to get the hang of it, but it is the easiest way I have found to do short hops in boss fights.

For level strats, you'll want to be able to short hop without attacking, since landing and doing a regular shovel attack can stop your momentum.  For that, just hit the button once quickly.  What kind of controller are you using?
A trash and old logitech wireless pad with the PS setup of the analogs. Works but I could use something better. Anyway yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of the shorthop. Now I need to master that damn Specter Knight

Yo, so I posted that Strawpoll earlier, but it turns out that somebody's taken it into their own hands to arrange weekly any% races already, so I would like to shout that out for anyone that's interested. The races will be on Sundays a 5:00 PM EST, so if you'd want to participate in that, please do come by.

Ruling the cosmos!
Ignore this post.
@Savez Yeah I have been running his level most of yesterday and today.  I'm done with it.  The level is horrible with more RNG than probably any other level.

The fight itself also seems to be a bit of RNG.  It is possible to kill him very quickly, but if you just get bad luck it'll take quite a while.  I've uploaded a *decent* IL run of his stage, but I died to Specter and just threw in the towel on him.  In a single segment setting, I foresee this stage/fight being the cause of most resets.  It just has too much RNG to be consistently perfect.

With that said, even with the RNG it is easily doable with no deaths, but damage-less is borderline impossible (not counting the big skele).  As a general tip on Specter himself, when he goes into the bottom corner on the side of the screen you are on, don't just pogo on top of him, it's slow.  Get behind him and do the spam attack/jump.  You'll do way more damage.  When you have that timing down (getting behind him) the fight really just becomes about trying to consistently get him in your corner.

I'm going to work on plague knights stage next, but I'll revisit Specter later, when I'm not so frustrated at his RNG stage.
Hello! I'm new here, but I wanted to share a skip in room 3 that wasn't in the google doc. =]

Basically, dig up the beetle, hop cancel and bounce up to the moving platform. This isn't really optimized, and the timing is kinda tight. It works pretty well if you aim your first jump on the beetle platform so that you land on the corner
Ruling the cosmos!
Yo, that's actually a sick skip dude
Thanks! I'm hype for races, too. Are they going to be on SRL? Sorry if this was already mentioned somewhere.
Ruling the cosmos!
I actually have mention of weekly races two posts above your first one, but we do sometimes do races in between. If you go and hop on the IRC channel, just go and ask around if anyone would be down for a race and have at it from there.
#derp Awesome, thanks =]
Reminder this game will be ran at gayweedpaloozathon 3 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oQsDgSLN47t44M7-Y-e0wdisj4p3iZDyhHeUzgoYdN0/pubhtml#
Anyone else working on New Game +? I've been messing with it a bit and it's pretty fun.  I'm thinking around 40 minutes or just under would be a good time.  It's pretty tough, though.
Many words! Handle it!
So I noticed something on a casual run of NG+. On the Black Knight 3 fight, if you have the Spark upgrade (which shoots the beam thing along the ground) you can abuse him pretty hard.

Basically when he goes into the bit where he shoots a ton of projectiles, wait until he is standing on the ground. Normally if you knock a projectile back at him he will knock it back at you Zelda style. However with the Spark I was able to basically play tennis forever, except the spark would hit him every time I hit the projectile back. I imagine this requires that you be standing at a very precise distance from him, such that the spark hits him pretty much immediately after he reflects the projectile. I was able to hit him 18 times in a row like this.

I'll try and replicate and record.
Does it kill before he becomes a bird? That'd be great if it did!
Many words! Handle it!
Yea. I literally hit him twice with the propeller dagger, he did his projectile dance, then I comboed him until death.
Many words! Handle it!

So this is the best I could duplicate it, sorry for the quality.

It definitely seems like you can lock him in the animation of knocking the projectile back, but it's precise at best and may be down to RNG. When he initially fires the projectile his position should be consistent, however he moves back after being hit, at least the first and maybe also the second time. The timing of the projectile also changes based on how close to you it actually is when you hit it back. You can see that when I dropped the combo I hit the projectile very early, and as a result it hit him before he could knock it back.

It's possible that some of this also relies on RNG, ie the AI decides it just doesn't want to jump over the bolt, taunt you, or whatever else he does if you were to play tennis normally. I'm fairly certain that in normal situations he will always taunt at something like 4-5 bounces though.

You'll notice that even after I dropped the combo, I was able to kill him before he grew wings. In this particular case it was definitely lucky RNG. As far as I can tell it seems like it's pretty much random what move he decides to do past the first volley of projectiles. In this case he went from that to digging the purple goop, a dive attack, and then into more projectiles. I'm pretty sure that any of the last 3 attacks could have been a bird phase, I had another similar fight where I brought him down to 2 health but he immediately transformed upon escaping. All this method does is allow you to deplete all/most of his health in his first move, reducing his chances to actually transition to the bird phase.

Of course I'm making a lot of possibly erroneous assumptions here. I'm also doubting that this is actually faster at all. It's a little hard to say since I'm a scrub, but it seems like you can rack up damage way faster with propeller spam, and if you manage the bird phase decently, it still ends up being much faster.

Also, in the anchor room in Iron Whale, VSync allows me to jump out of the water a couple pixels higher.

New Low% Propeller Knight quick kill: http://www.twitch.tv/cptbrian/c/4605800
It's important to get hit at least once in the beginning chain, otherwise he flies away after you hit him 8 times. If you get hit once, you can get in 4 extra hits before he flies away.

Found some very fast low% strats for Plague Knight, and I'll record that tomorrow. It's 6AM right now.

That's actually a really awesome trick, Josh. I would like to point out, though, that just spamming the Propeller Dagger in his face is quite a bit quicker than that, but that's a really funny abuse of his AI, I like it. But somebody has a kill that was crazy fast with Propeller Dagger spamming, I'll go find it.

Also, Duckfist, Adefgames is also working on NG+, that's the only other person I know who's doing it.

Found it
Glad to see some fantastic runs from CptBrian and Bags. It seems like most of the improvements will be memorization and performance, as the routing seems to be solid. This game is quite substantial, and I've found there is a lot of room for error. I appreciate a point of reference for 100%, which I am currently working on myself.

It's interesting to see a 100% category that will include the bosses and all the extra stages. Not only does this make it easier to afford all the items needed for completion of the run, it also eliminates the need to route around frustrating overworld RNG.

Low% is also very cool, and looks to be really challenging. It's likely that I'll end up running that category as well, in which case thanks to CptBrian for that. I find it strange that with such a dramatic difference in item collection,(1% to 100%) both runs finished with a total of 7 lives lost. Interesting little coincidences aside, Congratulations to the both of you!

I just beat the game its fantastic. Im very excited to see what is done with this Smiley Very nice skips so far guys!
