So it has come to my attention that this game runs super fast if you have vsynch on and have a high hertz output on your monitor. So this means people with better monitors can have an unfair advantage. Here's a video of shovel knight running at 144 hertz.

That said, Finished my secodn run today. Got a 1:40:31

Thanks for the proof!
They said the devs are aware of this issue. Anyway I'd say that if anyone is using something like that in a run it would be easily noticable

Aw they're going to fix it? I loved playing it at that crazy insane speed. It felt so good and... fast! That speed was why I was considering picking this game up as my next speedgame.

What if they removed the 144 fps bug, but made like a hard mode option that would keep that same sense of speed.

I mean, you can turn V-Sync off...should it be required, then?

Yo, comin' in real late here, but real cool that you showed up BLA (if you see this). I expect to see you streamin' some of this in the near future, would love to see it.
Relax
I tried working on Plague Knight consistency a little. http://www.twitch.tv/cptbrian/c/4562312 Try to build from it, I didn't work on the 2nd phase, it appears completely random.
.
it seems you can go out of bounds in spectre knight fight. Makes me wonder if its possible anywhere else and if it could be useful?
That Oob is really awesome.
Ruling the cosmos!
It might be special to that level. It seems that you're actually standing off screen on the gate in front of the boss, so to do it anywhere else would mean that there'd have to be platforms on the very edge of an adjacent screen
Relax
I tried doing the OoB trick during boss rush with Propeller Knight at the top right of the screen, and it doesn't work. So far it only works in Specter's fight.
I trip over my own feet in game.
Well if you don't like the normal arena, there's that. Smiley Also, no adds.

Dear lord. That's too fast haha
.

If you don't get knuckles or are doing a relicless run this is a neat trick to speed up the second autoscroller in lost city i guess

I real quick wanna mention something, I just noticed the post about running the game super quickly. Things can be banned in speedrunning, there are things that runners aren't allowed to do. Best example of this is orb glitch in SMW. In every category of SMW, you are not allowed to put an orb in your inventory. We can have a similar rule here.

I've done that trick too. I noticed though that you don't have to wait to let them out. In fact, maybe we could try to see if we can get across the first and second pit with the birds. A little more risky, but could save some more time.

ah i just noticed too, the other bird bounces off the beetle so i wait for the right moment but the other one seems to be content to just fly away, jumping over the pit looks pretty viable actually. Gonna try that when I get home

New trick for you guys in Iron Whale (new being relative if no one's posted it yet Smiley ).

Another Iron Whale trick. When you get to the room with the spikes and the tentacles coming from the right, you can actually destroy the top 2 tentacles at the same time.

Word of warning: Somethings you can actually kill only the 2nd one, and then be trapped between the 1st and 3rd ones. A recovery strat is to move to #3's vulnerable point, and the moment you receive new damage, destroy it by pogo'ing and advance ASAP to #4. This strat could also be faster in general, but much more risky. I do have a video for this and will upload it later.

Also, you can actually climb past the first missile after the dirt jump in Iron Whale, but it seems to be based on the route starting with the stingrays. See the video below:
.
man those are some neat finds! I added them to the tricks document here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SEo9Y-JM3acLQmMjifzWHbUr8ze0Lz_VXiXDq2LoVZU/edit
YCG just announced they patched the Steam version to fix the >60hz speed glitch, along with some other minor bugfixes. No word yet on how/when they plan to patch the direct download, 3DS, and Wii U versions. http://steamcommunity.com/games/250760/announcements/

So, in the IRC, we've currently been discussing the category possibilities.
Any% is pretty obvious both for NG and NG+.
Low% would be without any upgrades bought, including relics and health, though I think during the early phase picking up health upgrades is OK.

But how do we define 100%? Of course it would be all relics, song scrolls, health/mana upgrades and weapon powerups. Would unlocking all armors be required, since they're not on the item screen? Also, would beating the overworld map bosses be required? None of them drop anything - only Mr. Hat in village 2 gives a song scroll (making him mandatory for 100%).
If beating the overworld bosses is not required for 100%, then would an All Bosses category be feasible?

I've seen some people thinking of picking up 100% (including myself). I think it'd be best if we consider this matter before people start seriously running.
I feel like 100% should be every item that show up when you open your menu. Weapon upgrades, armors, songs, etc. There should be no spots missing.

@RedArremer I think you're overthinking it. 100% means just that, 100%. All bosses, relics, powerups for the shovel, music scrolls, hp/mana upgrades

And this is my feeling but I don't find the 100% of this game very appealing, it almost becomes a let's play but maybe it's just me.
I would like any% and low% much more.
