Since we get the Fiery Wand, I was wondering if it was faster to get it from the Pridemoor Keep or from the shop? You just have to break three checkpoints in the level (two grey and the green one) to get enough money and buy the wand from the shop, but the boss fight looks really slower without the wand.

The frog jump is pure rng as it seems, or at least the 1 hour I spent trying to make it consistent.

Also on a different note, has anyone found a way to kill Plague Knight in a fast manner? It just seems extremely random to what he does and he moves so god damn fast its annoying to try and hit him effectively. Good shoveling is enough for most bosses to die pretty fast when you know what you are doing and chaos sphere simply wrecks Mole Knight and Polar Knight, but what would be a good strat for Plague Knight?

Didn't see anyone post anything like this, but here's a strat for the explodatorium. I made a lot of mistakes, and a lot can be improved.

Only item used is the Flare rod

Third screen - if you waited a bit longer before flare rodding, you can kill the rat and blow up the wall simultaniously.\

Fourth screen -  Shoveling that first rat and pogoing the second is essential for setting you up for the bird cycles. if you miss the pogo the second bird will be too early for you to pogo onto that moving platform.

Sixth screen - Don't down shovel through the blocks.

Seventh screen - jumping across when the covers aren't in the air sets you up on the next screen for a damage boost.

Ninth screen - Get the rat pogo over the wall and use a slime to pogo the second bird.

Miniboss - Use the quick-kill strat (not pictured) to avoid taking too much damage.

Thirteenth screen - landing any further to the right will cause the pogo off of the slime knight to miss.

Guys sorry if it's already been asked but what do you use to capture the screen? Good old fraps?

@Mamgar:
@1:00 if you wait before damage boosting over the pots you can make it over both the pits before the covers go up again getting early to the ghost-boost
@2:55 how in hell am I supposed to go up there? I'm talking about casual play here D:
Yeah, Fraps works fine for me.
seventh screen 0:52 you can actually make it on the top of the first pot before the first cycle starts but it's a very precise jump

You get the money to buy the Flare Wand just from the Black Knight fight, to Eszik. It's definitely faster to get it in stage, if for no other reason than we avoid a trip to the village. I'm only making one trip to the village after the second dream sequence, which I'd recommend doing, it's a lot faster.

I used OBS, but i'm a novice. I've never made a video before. (you can tell by the mic fuzz at the beginning and the fact that i posted it with an unregistered account.)

@Savez

I didn't realize that you could do that. I'll have to work on that. the tricky part is that the vats appear to operate on a global cycle. So you can't really rely on a set strat in that room.
To get up you'll need to pogo off of the rock clump on the wall. You can't walk over that segment with the slime knights because of a wall on the ceiling.
I trip over my own feet in game.
I tried to find the IRC channel, but it's not listed under the SDA IRC server. Is it elsewhere?

SDA has an IRC channel? It's in SRL's IRC

irc.speeddemosarchive.com is SDA's. What's SRL's?

Trust nothing but Open Broadcaster Software.
.

Here's how to kill the anchor man-- i mean treasure knight quick without relics. When he does the jumping attack he usually moves towards the middle so move accordingly
.
the fight should actually be pretty consistent, when you just jump on him he moves left and does that attack
.
so ok this is my route for relicless iron whale:

the boss himself was stubborn and didn't pull himself up but the run was fine
Could we compile a list of all the items/powerups needed (and how much total money needs to be spent?  I know we need the fire rod and the phasing locket, but what else?  And I just was able to beat the game in 2:31:09 (In-game time) using the fire rod, phasing locket, silver armor, and the shovel upgrade where you hold down the attack button and do a power slash.

Is it possible he didn't pull himself up because you hit him during it? Or does it matter?
Ruling the cosmos!
It's not yet strictly decided which items we're getting, but right now it's looking like Flare Rod, Dust Knuckles, Throwing Anchor, Flying Dagger, and Mobile Gear, as well as three health and three magic upgrades. The run's not strictly set in stone yet, but that's at least what I'm doing and it seems fastest so far.

Also, we won't be tracking by in game time, since there are some skips that involve going to the title screen. Anyway, things that are still in the air is whether the Phasing Locket is worth it to get, since it takes a very long time to get to, and if we should get the charge slash, which nobody's really sure about. People are also talking about some pieces of armor, but again, it's still only in discussion.
Does anybody know this guy?  This run was uploaded 1 day ago (this is not my run)
Ruling the cosmos!
Quick note, a few people on IRC were putting their runs into PBTracker, I'd recommend as many people as possible to do the same, so we can know what's going on

Holy crap there are more people playing this then I imagined...

My current PB is 1:11:56 but its super shaky (and I've learned tons of new stuff I didnt know about since this run)

I've started running Fire Rod, Throwing Anchor, Flying Dagger, and Mobile Gear.  Are the Knuckles that strong they're worth going out of the way for?  or do you wait for the after Mole Knights stage and get them from Chester in town?
Ruling the cosmos!
Get them in the stage, they're closer to the main path in that stage than Chester is to the Goatician. Also, you can skip part of the beetle auto-scroller with them. And they also allow the quickest kill on Enchantress 2. And again, I'd recommend posting this on PB Tracker.

Done and done, and awesome I'll try that tomorrow!  Thanks for explaining the why!

I'm not a runner of this game, but I do have a neat timed challenge you guys may or may not be aware of.

I'll be going to SGC in Texas this year, and this game's going to be at Iron Man of Gaming. If you enter "IM&SGC14" then enter any name in a new file, it'll give you three minutes to get as many points as possible in the lair of Mole Knight. Just thought I'd post this here as a fun side-challenge for you guys if you didn't know about this.

Obviously, not related to mainly speedrunning the game, but it is technically a time attack mode. Plus, I need advice in that level, so I'm lurking this thread basically anyway.
