Yeah I've come to realize HD is pretty different compared to the original game. The only levels that are played out pretty much the same in both games are: Hatshepsut, Oasis, Metropolis and I guess Luxor non-OOB. The non-HD version is faster in TFE only because of Dunes (saves like a minute), otherwise I would say HD is theoretically the faster version.

I've done two SS runs so far and been fucking up some levels pretty badly... including the super kleer boost. I've never done a SS run before but you would think after having done ILs I would know how to do the god damn levels and not forget that arachnoids spawn on Karnak and stuff >_<
It was annoying to beat my IL times when running SS so here we go:

Luxor in 2:58 (mp4). I reached the roof very quickly, not so lucky with the rest though. It should be possible to reach the feather with a kleer boost as well.

Metropolis in 7:26 (mp4). Basically a 7 second faster arena fight. I use the laser instead of the tommy vs harpies, spam indirect grenades vs the bulls, and spam early rockets vs the kleers to kill everything quicker. Picking up the ammo packs in the air would be a nice improvement, although I'm not sure how you would know the exact spawns.

As for how my SS run is going... I've still only finished one attempt (42:35). Reason: I've CRUSHED my Valley of the Kings IL, which is sad because now I have to reset a lot since the two new skips are really hard to pull off, but the level is still just ~4 minutes in so I kinda have to do them.

Hey... I haven't said it in here, but I got a 39:58 SS run and have just now submitted it. I won't upload it to YouTube until it's up here so if you want to see it early then sign up to verify Smiley

I also have a few new ILs but I'm getting confused about which ones I have posted already, so I'll skip those for now Tongue I won't bother submitting an IL table, since ssdq.org already keeps track of those.
Well, it's SUPPOSED to keep track of the records, but it doesn't Smiley

Grumble grumble! Angry

(I'm working on it right now.)

EDIT: DONE
Exoray
I'd more see ssdq.org as the place to keep track of runs up until we have complete submittable tables Smiley
Me and Cortez have submitted an IL table instead of the single-segmented run and here are my final runs!

Hatshepsut in 0:34. For TheVoid Tongue

Sand Canyon in 1:20. More luck = 1 second faster.

Tomb of Ramses III in 1:32. New shortcut by jumping on a candle saves 2 seconds.

Valley of the Kings in 2:26. 2:01 faster thanks to new tricks discovered. Technically the only OOB part is jumping through the roof which just saves a few seconds but yeah.

Oasis in 2:06. Even more optimized hopper room = 3 seconds faster.

Dunes in 1:49. Here we get to see the turbo laser being useful Tongue Optimally it would take 1 second to kill a Reptiloid so this level can be improved a bit. 7 seconds faster.

Alley of the Sphinxes in 4:10. I think pretty much every part was improved here. 10 seconds faster.

Luxor in 2:21. 37 seconds faster. OOB is now possible here thanks to new tricks. Also I'm getting the feather faster. This level is full of tricks!

I'm finished with this game but I'll probably be running HD TSE sometime in the future Smiley

And so it appears I wasn't finished with this game after all...

Updated the KB with new tricks that I've discovered recently: Horizontal floating and sinking with Floating Gnaars (meaning you can now get to any place with these guys), infinite jumping with Harpies as well as the horizontal flying method which is a major glitch making it possible to go extremely fast, and lastly an FPS dependent glitch that makes it possible to fall through the ground (which I figured out how to do on 30 FPS to make it watchable).

New total time of 30:24, down from 39:55. Hurray! Submitting soon and then I'm done with this game yet again.

hi
Holy thread necro!
Just an FYI for anyone that's possibly interested in verifying.
I just submitted a new IL table of all the levels with a total time of 28:32, it should be up soon.
Wake up and be awesome
That's awesome, will gladly verify
Cool will be nice to see Smiley My current record is 28:16.

Nice.
Well to be honest, there's probably around 1 and a half minutes to gain in my Metropolis and Luxor runs.
The problem is that the clipping glitch requires low FPS in order to work (I use 40 fps for it) and horizontal Harpy flying is almost impossible at these low framerates (at least for me).
Once you reach a certain speed you fall off of the Harpy instantly @ 30-50 FPS, so thats why I actually walk in my Metropolis and Luxor runs.

If there is a way to successfully do horizontal Harpy flying @ low FPS then sub 27 is easily possible.
Yeah there's no way to do it reliably on low fps. I managed some of it in Metropolis but meh I doubt it actually saved any time. Don't think my time on that level is especially good anyway.

You said you submitted a new IL table. Does that mean you beat the 0:34 Hatshepsut? If that's the case, that's insane. Could you post your times?

hi
Yeah I did beat it. I found a way to surpass the usual walking speed by some kind of strafejumping.
The advantage in speed is minimal though, so it doesn't safe a whole lot of time, but every bit helps!

Here's the times:

1....Hatshepsut..............0:33
2....Sand Canyon.............1:17
3....Tomb of Ramses III......1:29
4....Valley of the Kings.....2:20
5....Moon Mountains..........1:03
6....Oasis...................0:45
7....Dunes...................1:45
8....Suburbs.................0:52
9....Sewers..................0:59
10...Metropolis..............2:26
11...Alley of the Sphinxes...3:59
12...Karnak..................2:25
13...Luxor...................1:51
14...Sacred Yards............1:09
15...The Great Pyramid.......5:39
Damn. That's a big find Smiley Means I can improve all of my levels then, heh. Also suprisingly fast Alley of the Sphinxes. I recently tried to improve the ending fight but I never managed to. I guess it might be the walking speed trick though since you walk so much in the beginning.

hi
Mind sharing your currently best times?
Also, I uploaded two videos that show the speed difference on Alley of the Sphinxes in the beginning area.

Normal walking:

Strafejumping:

As you can see I reach the third Shield about 4 seconds quicker using strafejumping.
It's not the same strafejumping method that is commonly known from other games though.
You don't use your mouse, you rapidly tap Left and Right (alternating) while holding Forward and jumping.
That's pretty cool. Although a bit annoying Tongue I guess it works in TSE too then.

Hatshepsut 00:34
Sand Canyon 00:46
Tomb of Ramses III 01:32
Valley of the Kings 02:08
Moon Mountains 01:05
Oasis 00:44
Dunes 01:49
Suburbs 00:53
Sewers 01:00
Metropolis 02:46
Alley of the Sphinxes 04:10
Karnak 02:29
Luxor 01:31
Sacred Yards 01:07
The Great Pyramid 05:42

hi
Was the 0:46 on Sand Canyon done using Harpy flying? Or did you manage to boost off one of the trees?
I'm pretty sure the Harpys @ secret only spawn at Normal or higher difficulty so at least this method wouldn't be viable in a tourist run.

Also, did you use the clipping bug @ Luxor or did you jump through the wall, similar to the 2:21 run (but with a Harpy instead of the Gnaar)?
I have a theory to finish Luxor in sub 1:20, but it's extremely hard and mainly luck dependant, this is the closest I've got so far:

Also just got a 1:59 on Valley of the kings so the time is down to 28:11, maybe I should pull back my submission and optimize some of the maps first and/or submit some stuff together.
The only things that my run lacks is the short Sand Canyon and Luxor time.

Freezard: 2015-01-01 08:13:30 am
0:46 was done using a tree boost. That's the main reason I never submitted my runs actually, cause I've tried to get a tree boost in Valley of the Kings as well cause I know you can boost directly to the exit (or at least skipping the boss fight). It's just all about luck though so I doubt it will ever happen. Maybe with higher fps, I have something like 400 I believe.

Yeah I used a Harpy in Luxor instead of a Gnaar. Just like in your video except the ending. That looks like an insanely hard trick. You sure it's possible?

I wouldn't say you need to pull back your submission. There have been a few new rather unoptimized runs that I've verified but yours are way faster. Actually I'm surprised how much activity there have been recently with the SS games, not just HD. I've been working on BFE myself as well as another guy who found out that the auto-aim with a controller is actually useful. I have only tried it in HD but I didn't find it any useful, might be less effective in these games.

EDIT: I also have a full TSE HD IL table that I never submitted. It's not super optimized either and I found some guy on YT who has a few levels faster than me so the table is still lacking. Especially if the fast movement speed works in TSE as well.

hi
Did you record those sand canyon and luxor runs and would be willing to submit or at least share them?
I did try the tree boost in sand canyon for a while, but I'm not getting anywehre near enough speed. It also seems to be easier to do at higher fps.
Problem is with fraps I can record at max 80-100 fps.

EDIT: is it correct to just run off the tree or do I have to jump/crouch at a certain point?

Regarding the TSE run, you mean the single-segment by Big Jim? It's pretty good I saw it recently. I haven't tried the strafejump in TSE but I'm pretty sure it works there aswell.
Yeah the run by Big Jim. It has a few shortcuts I didn't know of before although he's using hyper-scrolling which I don't have so I don't know if I can replicate them.

I think you need something like 200 fps at least. When I found out about boosting I switched from FRAPS to OBS actually Tongue It just takes a lot less performance.

I'm uploading the run right now. You need to jump immediately after the boost cause there's a slope that will bounce you high into the air. Otherwise you will just crash into walls.

hi
I see, I could replicate the boost now.
Also, thanks for the tip with OBS!

What exactly do you mean by hyper-scrolling though?
The smooth mouse wheels some mice have that makes you Harpy jump extremely high quickly.

hi
Ah, I happen to have one (Logitech G500) although it's not that easy to use since the jumps seem to stack in a buffer, so when u stop flying it actually continues jumping for a while, it's really hard to time it correctly so I use normal mouse scroll.

EDIT: Got a 0:42 on Sand Canyon.
Had to use the ingame demo recording function since OBS' videos suffer from bad stuttering for some reason. The recording performance itself is great, almost no fps drop but the final video file is really laggy, no idea why.
The only downside to using the ingame function is that there's no timer shown in the middle during the run, but I recorded the stats screen so it should be fine I guess?
Sweet! Actually the HD demo recorder is known to be pretty unreliable. That's why there is none in BFE. I don't think it even recorded jumps correctly when I tried it out, but if your demo came out fine then I guess that's alright but I wouldn't use it in the future.

OBS can be a pain sometimes. Sounds like there's some settings you need to fiddle with. People usually help here if you make a new topic or something.
