One hand is enough.
That would be great Sebastiaaaaan, the more hands and eyes working on optimizing this the better.

Last night I managed to get  an RTA run of 2:51:46.33, with an in-game time of 2:11:35. I'm actually quite proud of it and I am considering submitting it to this site.

Booom3, your RC bomb car strat works like a charm; I especially like how it teleports you to the lower floor afterwards. If anyone notices major flaws that aren't too obvious (like the one defib, or getting blocked by the AI in some bits), let me know. Another thing I may want to try soon is putting together some speedrunning resources on the RAGE Wiki, as it is otherwise a pretty useful place for this game.

I also submitted this run to the sunday sequence break, hopefully it'll get mentioned!
I just picked this game up and I'm going to  be doing some speedruns of it. My current PB is 2:24:47 but it was a pretty rough run. I think sub 2 hours should be possible and will be my ultimate goal.
One hand is enough.
Sweet! Glad to see another person working on this game. I agree that sub 2 hours on the in-game timer is very possible with what is currently known. Good luck with your attempts.

In the Jackel Canyon there are two ziplines back to back. I think they both can be skipped by simply jumping across. Here's proof that the second one can be, I say in the video I can't make the first but I really haven't given it a solid attempt. Please excuse how sloppy it is, I pretty much decided that moment to attempt jumping across.

Yeah I can confirm both of those jumps are very doable. Later on in that level there's a ton of floating balloon bombs and I found the best way to deal with them being well cooked grenades that detonate mid-air.

Yep, you can jump all of the ziplines. Also, you can jump over the door at the start (instead of going up to open it)

Here's a skip I just discovered in the Gearhead Vault, I'm not sure how much time it saves exactly but if it can be done cleaner than I show here then I guess it could probably cut 15-20 seconds. I can't quite figure out the monicular glitch timing so I just mash until it works, heh.

Awesome!
Try using your mousewheel to activate, it makes the zoom trick way easier. Let it fully zoom in, then let go and instantly scroll. Timing is very hard but once you figured it out it works within 1-3 tries.

I've also discovered during the Feltrite Crater mission you can take the Feltrite from the tube early if you spam the use key enough. I'll need to get a video of it to show you what I mean but I've been aware of this for a while now, having seen the "take" dialogue displayed for a moment several times. I tried binding my mwheelup/down to take and just spammed it before the Feltrite came up and was able to take it before the canister door opened.

Edit: Video for your viewing. I found standing toward the center and aiming at the top tends to yield the best result. Fun fact, the Feltrite actually never moves despite all the whirring and noise it makes.

1:56:37 is my best time and it's what I'm going to submit. It's a pretty gnarly run with only one big mistake (flipped a car and got it stuck so I had to strafe from dead city to Krvasir's lab)
I'm thinking of speedrunning this game. Is there any set of rules or something I should know of? I'm thinking of doing segments and cut at each loading screen. I will probably use the release version aswell since there's more cvars to access wich helps alot when searching an area for bugs. Is this allowed?

Here's a little strafe jump video (with longer sprint time and godmode) I made a while back:

I'm having problem with constantly jumping since you abrubtly stop without reason and loose all the velocity on certain spots on the ground, does anyone know why this happens? Otherwise I would probably go by foot everywhere.

I might upload a couple of bugs i've found if someone's interested.
Made a speedrun of the power plant mission, 2 minutes and 20 seconds (00:02:19:75)

Found a huge glitch where you can skip the whole elevator part. I can probably shave of 20 seconds with better movements and faster killing. I can probably be alot more conservative with ammo aswell when i learn the AI spawns at the end part.

Would it be okay to play the whole game segmented like this? Could hopefully make it in less than one hour.
That's awesome. Better reloading would make applying violence a lot easier.

Yeah, I was really sloppy with both movements and shooting. Made the video to roughly show how much time you can save on the mission by utilizing the bug.

Found another skip at the Authority Prison. Allows you to get past the barrier at the MG nest.

and here's an example of Kitin's alternate Elevator skip

Haha, I uploaded this unlisted video of me messing around in that area a while back. Most like a "quality test" for my new rage "DeFRaG/trick jumping" montage.

The first jump i make is probably the best option since it's easier and you can push the button to let the guy in faster. Here are some others i've uploaded as unlisted:

Nothing to benefit from really, just shows that the game has potential for more skips i guess. I have about 20 similar clips from different locations on my hdd.

That alternate route was very nice, probably the best for that area.
How do you jump that high and far ?

It's a trick known as strafejumping, which is present in every id game and best known from the Quake series. The basic idea is to continually jump to maintain your momentum and to accelerate in the air through strafing and specific mouse movements. It's a bit arcane and takes a lot of practice, but it allows you to move very quickly. As for how he jumped high, the stairs are effectively a ramp, and colliding with a ramp causes you to move at the angle of the ramp. Since he's going fast horizontally to begin with, the ramp causes him to go fast vertically instead.
Here's a picture to demonstrate, read it right to left.

Found this glitch a while ago, haven't found anything usefull to do with it though.
So I made it over (way harder than I expected, invisible walls everywhere)... unfortunately, you can't press the button

Interesting Sebastian, too bad it can't be of any use. I still would kill for a way to skip Kvasir's dialogue.

@atomicjo: Rage's ramp jumping is pretty freaking strong, I'd say it's stronger than Quake 1/Quake 3 CPMA's ramp jumping. You can get some pretty absurd height if you can make sure you are getting enough speed going up the ramp. A lot of staircases are built as ramps physically except for a few examples (Sheriff Black's staircase in Wellspring, staircase leading up to Redstone in Subway town.) This is done to keep the number of physical surfaces to a minimum, iD software was VERY selective with what they let you interact with physically in this game. A lot of the game world is much simpler than what you see, unfortunately there isn't a way to draw the world like how we had commands like r_showtris in the Quake 3 engine.
Does anyone still have the unpatched .exe? Might be able to find something there

Found a way to do BWoods gearhead vault skip a bit faster. Pretty hard to get on the elevator in time though, not single-segment material. Doesen't hurt to take the chance on a single-segment run though since there's no risk in doing it.

Edit: Oh wow, i'm fucking stupid. Just realized by watching the video that the fire that's blocking you from entering the other room trigger as you get past the line aswell. It's very delayed though so you can just strafejump your way in there directly *facepalm*

Realized it was this easy, much faster as well. Cheesy
