I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!

I ACCIDENTALLY SOLD BACK MY COPY TO GAMESTOP!

Don't ask how....

Now I have to buy it back.

Oh well, addicted to Bayonetta and Megaman at the moment anyway...

as a technique for button tapping I have two ideas.  These are best for the final boss though:

1)place the psp on your leg.  for me it's the thicker part of the thigh.  Place thumb on the square button, and put the rest of your hand past your thigh. Shake hand up and down for a pretty fast attack.  If I had a camera I'd shoot a quick video but I don't.

2) double thumb: during some of the long animations (i.e. the two charge attacks) turn your PSP sideways and place BOTH your thumbs just above the square button and the rest of your hands behind the psp. Move the psp back and foward while mashing with both your thumbs: use a synchronized motion so it's even attacking rather than pressing both thumbs at the same time.  once again if I had a movie camera I would show a video.

the 1st method you posted is what i do actually, but only for bosses that stay put like Sir Sweet, Chefbot, and Etna, or if the boss is cornered to a wall (Hoshikage). For other bosses that get juggled, i just use the normal PSP grip and my thumb to mash. I can get the same speed as the "free hand" mashing technique but i can't sustain it for too long (whole hand goes stiff lol)

After some 300+ retries in the span of 4 levels, i got some pristine runs on replay. I'll continue tomorrow since my arm needs rest.

So far the times are:

Moab - 0'53"36
Demon Sea - 01'20"30
Magma - 01'14"14
Watchtower - 01'45"22

so far so good. Cheesy
Procrastination Nation!
The second technique allowed me to beat Sir Sweet with around :25 seconds left.  I'm sure if someone mashes better you could get it above :30.

Of course I'm not THAT good at the game, you probably have a better boss time than that.

I agree, psp smashing take's a lot more effort.  On my new game + I'll see if there are any other decent mashing techniques.
PSP zealot
I usually beat Sir Sweet in 2'20-30 but my goal for the run is a sub 2min fight. I've done a 1'55 fight but i'm confident i can bring that down to 1'30 depending on my mash speed @_@
Procrastination Nation!
I'd love to see a video.  Is it basically just depending on mash speed?  I don't usually attack him at all on the 2nd to last flight.
PSP zealot
Sir Sweet in 2'22" :

Sir Sweet 1'55" (with etna as well):

1st vid is just normal mashing with my thumb (less tiring method), 2nd vid is the off-hand mashing. I get tired near the end of the 2nd vid and there's a noticeable drop in attack speed on the 2nd to the last flight pattern. @_@ I'm not sure if i can make a 1'30" fight, but i'll try lol.

mike has confirmed that as long as there are ways to confirm the time records with the replays, then it's valid. I'm fired up, gonna do Hightome, Nethergrasslands, Chefbot, and Black Desert today. Cheesy

Very nice second Sir sweet fight, faster than my best so that's good =P. Looking forward to the run. This game is still really hard. You going to try a single segment ever?
PSP zealot
i might try a SS run if ever i get a good way of recording. I'm not sure if my sanity can handle a Hell's Finest SS run, since there are so many risks involved in my routes xD
Procrastination Nation!
I posted comments on your etna/sir sweet video.

Very nice run.

Also I do the double thumb technique on the first part of the fight at the very beginning.  Didn't add that to the comments.

Is the ariel attack really faster than ground attack in this fight?  I thought ground is more damaging unless you could get really close.
PSP zealot
yup i took note of those tips, thanks. Yup as long as both the swords and the slash waves connect, the aerial attack is superior in DPS.

I've done Hightome, Nethergrasslands, Chefbot9000 and Black Dessert Desert, but now I'm stuck. Apparently since i don't play Sweet Palace alot, i didn't know that the multiple boss fights CAN'T be saved as replays, only the last fight vs. Moab is. I can save replays for each of the stage segments since there are boss gates, but i can't save the boss fights themselves dammit. .__.

the only thing i could think of atm is to manually record the fights via RemoteJoy, but i fear the game's lag on some bosses. Though there shouldn't be any lag with Ogre, Anise, and Cardamon, there's a big possibility of lag in the Chervil+Basil fight as well as Hoshikage.

Another stage that can't be saved as a replay is tutorial 1. Gah. I hate that i don't have any effective means of recording PSP other than RJ Angry
Procrastination Nation!
Wish I could help, but my knowledge of PSP recording is rudimentary at best =[

Could you buy the PSP output device, plug it into a DVD recorder and have the DVD recorder play out to the TV and record it on DVD?  It shouldn't cause slowdown, and that's the only think I can think of.

I heard you need a PSP 2 or 3k for that though.
PSP zealot
yeah the problem is not the cables nor recording device, the problem is that i own a PSP1000.

At any rate, i tried Sweet Palace in RJLite and there's no lag at all. Each stage segment only has very few enemies and no animated 3D background. I recorded the whole stage (got tired of saving replays per stage segment) and the output is great, to my surprise.

My time is currently sitting at 3'16"xx (for my first ever no mistakes sweet palace run out of 400 or so attempts), and i'm definitely sure 2'5x"xx is possible BUT i'm not sure if can achieve that. In 400+ attempts i only got 7 perfect Anise fights, and only 3 perfect Hoshikage fights. I got the most optimal 22 sec Basil+Chervil fight once but it's usually a 30sec fight. In the run that i finally completed, Ogre, Anise, and Cardamon were perfect, Hoshikage was optimal but not perfect, Moab is about 5 seconds below optimal, and the Basil Chervil fight SUCKS. The damn thing took 40+ sec due to Chervil not cooperating (and my aim being crap)

So unless someone bugs me about getting that elusive sub 3min, i might just stick with it. (the main 6 stages have nearly perfect times anyway)

I'll be doing tutorial 1 tonight and probably work on getting the perfect Sweet garden time as well as that 1'30" final boss. @_@ My arm's killin me
Procrastination Nation!
maybe try borrowing a friends psp 2/3k?

I've finally finished the run. It's a good thing that the parts of the run i had to record via RemoteJoy didn't have any lag at all. (in fact the output looks pretty good)

The Sir Sweet 2 fight isn't my best, partly because i was playing a lot safer than my other attempts. Running sweet garden all the way to sir sweet 2 just to die from being careless is annoying AND bad for the arm lol. The time is at 3'40", and the final run time is 17'0x" or something. (with as much as 17secs of improvement possible with the Sweet Palace time) I decided to just leave tutorial 1 out of the run since it's just a tutorial stage (plus it's skippable on a new game+). Hopefully the verifiers will be ok with it >_>

65 is gonna be helping me with recording the replays onto DVD, so after that's done it's hopefully just a matter of time til the run is up. Cheesy

EDIT: my crappy Sweet Palace run bothered me so much that i decided to try and improve it. After some boss tweaking i was able to get a constant 23 sec Basil+Chervil fight as well as a semi-constant 9sec Cardamon fight. A hundred new reruns later, i clear the stage in 2'53", 23secs faster than my previous time. Funny thing is, this time could STILL be improved by 11-12 seconds further, since ironically both the Basil+Chervil AND Cardamon fights went bad (which i practiced ALOT on), whereas my Hoshikage fight was perfect (no extra practice at all).

Getting THE most optimal Sweet Palace time (2:4x) is friggin hard, since each boss requires absolute perfection. Another thing to note is that for Cardamon, Anise, and Hoshikage, positioning is alot more important than mash speed. Mashing too fast will juggle the boss all the way up where the slash waves will start whiffing, thus it's more important to mash at a speed that keeps the enemy in the same vertical height as Prinny to ensure all hits connect. Forgive the ramble, I need to vent out my annoyance for this stage >_<

I uploaded a vid showing one of my many perfect Cardamon and Basil+Chervil fight tests, but not the ones that made it into the run:

I can't get the replays show in the game. Anyone with experience with exchanging replays who could tell me what could have gone wrong?

I copypasted the folders into \PSP\SAVEDATA\ - is there something else I need to do for them to show?

Maybe the names are different between games from different regions?

EDIT: I have no idea what the problem is. I can see them in the save management menu PSP has, but not in-game.
Procrastination Nation!
I took a look @ my psp (which is running the latest version) and it looks like for replay data you need a specific folder FOR the replay data.

For example, my data for prinny replays is the following:

G:\PSP\SAVEDATA\ULUS10407AD0000

The 0000 is the replay number, with 0000 being first, than 0001, than 0002, etc.

Each folder has three files, an ICON0 file holds the replay icon. The DATA.bin file (I assume) holds the rep data.  I have no idea what PARAM.SFO does but it's also in there.

For the save data which you might also need, the folder path seems to be G:\PSP\SAVEDATA\ULUS10407PR0000

Once again the 0000 is the data save.

I don't know if the folder is going to be the same for every version.  I assume it isn't but I may be wrong.  Basically just find your prinny saves/replays by looking at the icons in the subfolders, than for each replay/save you need just remake the folder, adding one to the previous one.  This should work, but I haven't tested it.

It would be easier if you used a wiped memory card as well so it's easier to identify.

^yep i provided the replays (folders ULUS10407AD0000 to 20) and a save file (ULUS10407PR0001)

actually, i think it might be region difference. EU and US versions usually have different names for save files. (ULES and ULUS respecitvely) I'm not sure if this applies to Prinny though. I'll see if i can get my friend who has the EU version of the game test the replays if they work.

EDIT: it's definitely the region difference. US version uses ULUS10407 while EU version uses ULES01278...i guess now is a good time to ask..do you have CFW? If you do then i got a solution >_>
Procrastination Nation!
hmmm... to test I'll put a save file and rename the folder the the European version and see if I can run it.

After testing, my replay disappeared from prinny replay screen, so the answer is that US cannot read files based on the European folder system.

However, if the file sizes/types are the same I don't think it will be too much of an issue, as you can just switch the folder.  I am unable to test this obviously.
Well, I put the files into a European style replay folder. It did show up, but unfortunately said it was corrupted and refused to play it when I tried.

I don't have a custom firmware. I don't like to fiddle with PSP in that sense too much.

As things stand I don't think I'm able to help you out. Sorry.
PSP zealot
yeah simply renaming the folders won't work. I tried searching for ways to convert a US save file into EUR but to no avail. Dang, thanks anyway.
Procrastination Nation!
Is it possible for him to download the American version for PSP from PSN? Or let him borrow an account?
PSP zealot
I'm not sure, besides, downloading Prinny won't be free. Plus it's too much hassle for a favor. My last resort is to record each replay via remotejoyLite. The problem is that Prinny lags in Black Dessert Desert, the Moab Cannon area of Sweet Garden, the Chefbot 9000 battle, Death's Watchtower, and the last area of Demon Sea Aria. The rest of the stages look good enough for SDA standard.

I searched for info and discovered that PSP phat has a lag issue with certain games, while PSP slim doesn't. It's weird how my MHFU plays in full framerate while Prinny's framerate drops. I believe MHFU is a heavier game to run than Prinny, but I may be wrong. I've been fiddling around with the RJL settings and if i set the Thread Priority to 30+, the game runs perfectly lag free, BUT the RJL screen becomes glitchy and choppy. Basically if the game could run lag free, it's just a matter of testing which setup completely eliminates the lag AND have a good transfer rate.

Anyone with the game and a PSP slim wanna test out remotejoylite for me? >__>
Procrastination Nation!
It looks like I have to hack my PSP to run it?  I tried it before but I'm really afraid of bricking my PSP.  I know I could do the Pandora Battery trick but I don't want to spend $50ish or whatever it costs to do it... if I remember you need to buy a battery and a 2gb memory stick.

I have a psp-2000 so if you could tell me how it works I might give it a shot. I also have spare DVDs in my room (or did until my GF stole them) so I'll see what I can do.
I love Rogue Squadron and stories.
by any chance do you live in toronto?

otherwise little old but might get lucky

downgraded my friends phat with a copy of luminines he had and then used that to make a battery when I finally got a psp (slim),
since then replaced the screen of his psp after he broke it then he broke it again later........ was an interesting learning experience anyways.
