For Chamber 04, wouldn't shooting a portal underneath the cube then ABH towards the door be faster?

You mean like this run?:

Because, ive found it to be physically impossible. I tried it in my game from my save about... idk, 50 times and the cube does not fall like that. I don't know how he did it, but whatever. I had to find an alternate method, so i figured that if i grab the cube before it falls and throw it into the button, portal over to the exit, itll be close in timing to his.

@Spider-Waffle: Are you using a script for jumping? Because I am not. It makes a difference.

It helps if you place the portal just as the cube hits the ground, so that it passes right through without bouncing or getting hung up on the portal. It seems hard, but I can accomplish that about 1 in every 5 tries of so.

That depends how your cube was placed in the loader. It can land differently in the tube it comes from.

So your saying when you add bhop to ABH you use your mouse wheel worse and you end up going slower most of the time.

You could always ask on the AHK forums to see why you can't hold duck.  Worst case scenario you can make a script to hold duck while it rapidly presses jump.

No, im not saying I go slower, its just that the bhop doesn't directly affect ABH. It may be because im manually jumping (mwheel) but all I know is that the timing of the jump is what directly affects ABH. If I could see a video or something of what you are talking about, it would really really help.

If I hold duck with the AHK script, I sort of 'bounce', and I am not close to the ground like I am when I ABH normally. It doesn't let me ABH.

Here are the next 2 maps (finally into the maps with 1 chamber per map):

So why did you clearly loose speed every single time you didn't do it :P? And why do I get significally faster every time I do it (we're talking about real time gameplay here, oviously with host_framerate set lower you could go faster without moving your mouse because you could jump twice when touching the floor, which isn't possible in real time).

Bind +duck to one of your mouse buttons and ahk will work just fine.

I don't lose speed every time I don't do it. Its just randomized if I get a good amount of speed off of the first jump. Thats all. If I have a slower ABH for 1 segment, thats only because I went that speed for that segment. It doesnt mean the 100's of other times I didnt go faster.

Edit: Omg, I hate you. I DIDNT KNOW I COULDNT USE CTRL FOR DUCK?!?! Come on. It works like a freaking dream now. I can instant ABH. Thats really unfair that I had to spend all the time doing it manually, only because I didnt know I had to rebind duck. Jesus, im pissed.

Jump timing is obviously directly related to acceleration, this has always been the case with just about any game, but it isn't the only thing which directly affects it.

If you bhop right you will go faster every time; it's directly related.

Then I don't bhop right. Simple answer. Ill get enough speed now anyway using AHK.

God, you're stubborn. Why won't you just do it :P! It's not like we're trying to be offensive but you did loose speed at some places because of this and the loss was quite noticable (while you should gain speed in those places instead).

I think I forget about submitting my run when I look at DemonStrate's Wink But I am finishing my though, because I put so much afford in it and its my first one...
But can somebody say what I do wrong on the glass trick? I always get stuck and cant move anymore...

If you get stuck like that, shoot the wall to your left with a portal, and youll pop out of the glass. Also, to get through the glass easier, put the first portal that is on the wall higher up.

Plus, don't get your hopes down; my run still needs lots of improvements. Right now, i'm freaking out at how hard itll be to get this time:

for Chamber 13... I've only gotten 10 seconds so far.

@groobo and Spider-Waffle: Sorry guys. I get stubborn sometimes. My Ex could tell ya that :-P. I didn't mean to make a big deal out of it. I know what I have to improve now, and I can make a rerun of those maps after I complete my first runthrough. Thanks for the support.
I only got 10 seconds too Cheesy Do you also try to throw the box on the button like I did in chamber 12? I had to do that chamber so extremly often.... Smiley

Here are the next 2. After these are the ACTUAL levels (or at least the ones that are done most often since they are in the challenges section). Anyway...:

I see my sneaky portal was put to good use in Chamber 11 ; )

Liking the progress thus far. Can't wait to see the whole thing finished.

I found a site that isn't really finished yet, but they already have a tip to help fix jerky demo playback that I may use for the subsequent levels.

http://portal.gf-clan.ch/

It seems itll be a site to keep track of Portal records.

Chamber 09: You got stuck on the edge of the force field.

Chamber 10: You could shoot your second portal a little closer to the door. Going through the portal and landing in the doorway rather than somewhere at the side of the portal is quite tricky, but doable. Also you should pull your mouse all the way up immediately after entering the last room instead of doing it after two or three jumps. This should trigger the moving wall earlier.

Chamber 11: Use the method I used in my ss for leaving the orange portal device platform (without fucking up), it's faster. You could probably drop on the switch on its way up and still make it to the portal placed in front of you before the switch ends going up.

Chamber 12: You already know what I want to point out, don't you :P?

Thanks for the pointouts. I noticed a few of them after the fact when I was done :-/. When I rerun 11, I'll definitely use the 'jump off the button' method. Other problems are just minor accuracy issues. The ABH out the door on 12 will be difficult to fix because of the autosave timing, but ill check to make sure there isnt an autosave as soon as the door opens, but I doubt it because it usually only does that for new map loads.

So, I havent gotten to do the next chamber yet, but I did spend time compiling a list of challenge videos used for the next group of chambers. Some of these are old and do not use the current shortcuts, so their times should be easy to beat. Others, though, are highly optimized and will be difficult to recreate. I basically just searched YouTube for the fasted videos I could find:

Chamber 13: 7 seconds

(This is a better video of this than the one I posted a couple of pages ago. Thisll be difficult.)

Chamber 14: 3 seconds

(... thatll be hard and random)

Chamber 15: 26 seconds

(Thats seems pretty good, but you'll be blown out of the water when I do my Chamber 15)

Chamber 16: 36 seconds

(This is obviously slow because portal bumping was not used)

Chamber 17: 53 seconds

(He used the portal bump, but everything else he did was slow, so it is easily beatable)

Chamber 18: 37 seconds

(I actually seem to have the best time for it. I can improve it, and I didnt use the last platform skip in the last room)

Well, I did #16 in 13s and #17 in 48s. I'm pretty sure #17 can be done slightly faster if optimized, not sure about #16. IIRC it was a mid 0:13 and it looked really optimized.

As for the beginning of chamber 12, I assume that you hit the auto save trigger exactly as you're about to land on the ground. If that's the case, jump  sooner/later out of the elevator, or you could jump out of it at a different angle and fix your position while abhing.

Oh and the records for chambers 13 and 14 only look that scary (13 is waaay harder than 14 btw). I could replicate both within an hour.

I think he did the trick in the beginning too difficult, look at what I did, it is the same, but easier Grin I did 16 in 15 seconds, but I think the elevator waits for glados to finish the text that usually comes when you have to wait for the door.

I love the little celebrations that are done at the end of levels, brilliant!

I don't own this game, but love the online 2d edition, and am intrigued by the way this game works, so I'm gonna start watching this run.
Don't think!  feeeeeal
Ya chamber 17 with pb in 53 is really bad, I beat that time without the pb.
If we were you, we would quit now.
Got the next 2 levels done. As compared to the challenge times, I was pretty close:

Chamber 13: 9 seconds (record is 7)

Chamber 14: 4 seconds (record is 3)

The times are hard to compare exactly, because of the more 'controlled' the challenge levels are. I am very excited to finally get to do 15... I cant wait until its done. :-D.

Your #13 would be a mid/high 8 in challenge mode (if you wouldn't screw up the bh in the beginning it'd be 7s, I hope you'll redo it). Also a tip for 3s #14: You have to jump out of the elevator (literally) and land in the portal without touching the ground.

The 'bunny hop' is a cut between 2 different videos. Its not possible to keep it going, but I do jump fluidly after it loads; it just doesn't look like it because of the demo recording. If you inspect it really closely, it looks like the game actually slows down the second i shoot the portal. Its just because demo recording sucks so bad.
The same reason applies for Chamber 14, that you cannot jump out the elevator. The save is instant, and when you load from it (while holding forward), youll be outside of it because the elevator is broken. I could just stand there, but thats stupid too. It saves time to be moving forward and getting the portals setup than it does to stand there. Idk, its how funky the game is at times. Its annoying.
