But those ADHD movements are also annoying as hell to watch.
That always remembers me in Spider-Waffle's Opossing Force
speedrun whose end is totally ruined because of those annoying
turning on and off of the flashlight.

Just relax and get ready for the next chamber. Grin

Here's the video showing how to get through the door in chamber 18 without using any object to open/block it. Too bad that kind of ledge is so far away :(.

Will you use this way in your speedrun or will you just do it like before?
To me, this seems faster that getting the cube to get through the door.
And thanks for the video, I'll try it myself.

Every elevator is 20s long, I'd go mad before finishing even one full attempt. Another point is that I always stop focusing/get confused when standing still (eg the elevator door opens and I'm just standing there thinking of what the fuck is going on).

I'll be using the old route (well, one part will get a little tweaked). I'm not able to do one jump with a 100% succession rate and it just isn't worth it to save 2s that far in a run.

You get confused?

Yeah, I tried it and realized that jump is a bit tricky. But for a segmented or an IL run it might be a good way to do that level.

Belive me, I literally get sleepy when I have to wait for something for more than a couple of seconds, aka loose my focus.

The old method with the camera is way faster.

Hm...I dont know, i think with that glitch you can save around 10-15 seconds when done well, I tried it a few times and it works quite well. Which time are you aiming at for that chamber?

Not sure, but that would take an explanation in the comments if you do choose to include it. It's almost like unexplained warping since you're not really seen going through the portal...btw: that is one hell of a glitch. Any other doors it could be used on?
Hm... i got it on 47 seconds now, but I am sure you can save about 5 seconds more.

To quote myself from 2 pages ago...

Volt, who discovered this other glitch:
http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/viewtopic.php?t=506
which allows you access outside the map (which is against SDA rules for all who don't know), is a mapper, whom also found a way to fix it if you were going to make portal maps.

It could be used on other places... It really has nothing to do with the door itself. It just puts you above the top of a portal. In this instance, the top of a portal is against the door, so it puts you 'in' the door, aka, the other side of the door.
I found out that you get sometimes very extreme momentum when going through a portal:

I also found out that in chamber 9 the cube vanished after I tried to get it behind the door:

The real argument for sitting still in the elevator is the fact that it's more efficient to compress, therefore upping the quality on the rest of the video in 2 pass, or smaller file in constant quality. But through youtube it's not going to make any difference, and if you can't run as well without keeping moving, then by all means keep doing that.
Side note: you can't sneak items past the emancipation fields into the elevators with a portal bump, apparently. There's no place for the bumped portal to land. Tried it on 12, 13, and 16 with no success.
If we were you, we would quit now.
I think you guys will like this one. Does the rocket launcher area without using the rocket launcher, and it also doesnt use the chair either for boosting into the vent. Check it out:
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I have no idea if this is posted (too many pages to go through) but there is a video of someone beating this game in 20 minutes

Yeah, that'd be groobo. You can see him posting above. He calls himself groobotube on YouTube apparently - guess it's more like GrooboTube. He's planning a sub-17-minute run at the moment.

Nice video. Grin
But would that be allowed in a speedrun?
Because at one point he's outside the map...

IME you're not oob until there's a clip brush under your feet, no matter if it's covered with textures or invisible.
XXY
It's kind of funny to think about mysterious teleporting being called into question in this run, seeing as how the game is called Portals XD!
Waiting hurts my soul...

A clip brush is an invisible brush on a map afaik, yes.

edit: it got to me that my earlier post doesn't make any sense for most people (brush = textured, clip brush = invisible), so: you're not oob as long as you have something solid to stand on, directly under you.
So now it isnt allowed?

Not true. SDA won't take runs in Halo, for instance This one. Notice, I AM standing on something solid directly under me, but I am out of the map. This was not acceptable apparently.
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
wow, just when this game felt really optimized, it gets cracked wide open. Nice find on the portal bumping.

I wish I could give some input about the out of bounds rule, but that rule has never sat right with me, so I will refrain from comment.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i don't understand why they wouldn't let this halo segment... FEAR speedruns have the same thing... i could be wrong, but afair hl1 speedrun also has a little bit of oob =)
boss
Dunno, it's probably up to whoever verifies a run. The oob rule that I described earlier applies to my both FEAR runs and the run that I'm doing for Okami.
