@CMiller: If you place a portal near the upper edge of a wall that you can stand on and then stand directly above the portal, you'll go through a couple of units away from the second portal. For me it looks like when doing this glitch, the game recognizes the small spot on the floor that you just fall through as an extension.

Hey guys, thought you might like to have a look at my recently completed segmented portal run that is at around 17:50. I could improve it majorly however there would be no point because there is now Portal bumping and other methods that you have discussed that allow you to do some of the segments much quicker. I was quite disappointed with the run even though it took me about 5 days to complete, because I make some major errors such as the GLaDOS battle which is very slow because i couldn't be bothered fixing it when I will have to redo it when I use the other methods. Here are the links to the videos on youtue, I will upload the full length video on filefront soon. As I am just a guest because I cannot remember my login (I made it ages ago) I cannot post a link so if you go to my profile on youtube, the videos will be there. My youtube name is KingpinSYD

I tried to, but i could never seem to get it. Thats why 35 seconds or lower should be possible.
Edit: Okay, I've decided. This week i have finals, so i'll just keep working on finding any possible shortcuts or other glitches. Next week, i think ill start a segmented run. It'll be highly segmented, and as fast as i can possibly do some of the levels. I'll release the videos on YouTube on a per map basis. Then youll get to see my WIPs quicker :).
If you can do my optimized method for the last big room that'd rule. You'll prolly need to start new segment right before the last portal shot as that shot is very hard even at half speed; it has to be pixel-perfect.
And when you do ABH do it bunny hop style (move mouse left and right and hold left and right strafes) you accelerate significantly faster.
DemonStrate, I'm assuming that you'll be running this in the hopes of getting it up on the site? No mysterious teleports or out of bounds glitches? I'd still like to see a segmented run that heavily abuses those glitches, just for fun after you've finished your first run. I'm sure most people would as well, just to see how terrifyingly low this game could go.
In any event, I can't wait to see a fully optimized run of this game, as it's absolute mind-fuckery.
I hope to see all the time saving glitches in a segmented run too. But maybe someone should ask Radix or Nate if those glitches are valid. That out-of-bounds shortcut in chamber 19 seems a little borderline to me.

generally any glitch that allows you to leave the normal bounds of the game world or to magically teleport between distant locations will be forbidden
Okay, for the teleportation glitches I don't think they're that "magically" since you're using a portal gun. They are also not really distant, it's just "through" a single wall.

Probably any other glitch will be allowed, but exceptions might be made on an individual basis. Runs using borderline glitches will probably be allowed in separate categories from runs that don't use them.
The escape_01 pseudo-oob glitch is valid, because he's standing on solid ground all the time. And I already explained how the "magical warping" works in Portal, which isn't that magical anymore.

I wouldnt really worry about it too much. I dont think its faster than using the rocket launcher... so, it doesnt need to be that big of a deal. However, i do think my jump, when executed flawlessly, into the vent is faster, just because you dont have to carry a chair with you. So, i'd probably be trying to do the 2 portal bumps in the rocket room, before it shoots, then run down the hall and use the rocket to break that 1 piece of glass then. As i mentioned before, using hunter_shoot_flechette to break the glass should be considered illegal too. I would love to use that for many parts of the game, but its clearly a cheat that just isnt sv_cheats protected.
New discoveries abound!: I've found new and better ways to use the edge glitch. I think it can be used in many many more areas now, because of the fact that you can use any edge of the portal! you just have to find the correct orientation and position for it, and you are good to go.
Door Glitch (not useful yet):
CUBE TUBE SKIP on Chamber 19:
Edit: Check this out. It skips the glass (without going OoB) so we can finally not use the rocket launcher at all!
You can shoot the orange one from the vent in the beginning of this map. Then shoot blue as you fall down, than orange on the floor to get the altitude.
I'm not sure if you can put a portal next to the exit door from this position. That would be nice.

(I hope these images works)
Thanks! I made a revised turret room run using your slanted portal. Its alot more optimized now:
Anyway, to go even faster you may get the proper heigth even if you put the orange portal a bit lower on the wall in the turret room. Less fall time (times two since you get less height from the slanted portal) = faster segment. Mess round some and see what you can do.
Or just let it be until you reach this point in a segmented run.
EDIT:
I played around some more. If you shoot the first portal to a low location on the wall, you wont get the height to get to the upper area. BUT, you will get the height to make a pixel perfect portal to the right of the door that leads to the next area. I'm not sure this is a timesave because you still need to get a turred for glados.
I am doing progress on my segmented run, i got to it to chamber 16 yet in 9:42. Did I forget a trick until now or does somebody know more major timesavings?

Ok here's the 1:02 run I mentioned the other night for escape_02 using a modified version of groobo's turret method. Wanted to get a tips walk-through done before I posted it, tho.
As I mentioned in the previous post under a minute is easily do-able without Fraps running and the settings turned down. For me, I averaged 17-20 fps in the big open areas regardless of the video settings (when Fraps is running) so I decided not to punish the game for my lacking specs. As I say in the tips video it should be easy to get the first 3 in and be waiting on the 4th core to drop, and have it go straight in right as the incinerator closes. You have about 6 seconds or so after you hit the button.
I'm trying to work out a peek-a-portal method for the last room. Try to hit the button first thing, then peek-a-portal around to gather the cores straight to the incinerator. Portal back over to button again right before 4th drops, hopefully be quick enough to have it drop straight in or if not get a portal under it right as it hits the ground. I may do another vid to show the general gist of it if there's any interest.
OMG, Youll never believe this. I was able to keep an item from one level to the next!!!! :). It was at the end of Chamber 16. You can take a cube to the next level and substitute it for a Weighted Companion Cube!!! This proves that the Weighted Companion Cube is nothing more than a normal cube in disguise!!! Check it out:
Edit: @Fragalishus: Very nice videos. I enjoyed the explanation one also. I might start doing that for my videos... just because its so much easier for people to understand what you are doing when you slow it down and explain it. Idk, though. I still have more exploits im trying to find. Can anyone think of any rooms that need to be skipped or sped up? I keep going through the game over and over to find anything that could be improved.
I'm far from the Portal expert here, but could ABH down the final hallway leading to GlaDOS save a precious one or two seconds in a segmented run? Damn nice videos, by the way.

NICE. You dont need to kill the companion cube after all.
