Currently Running: Pokemon Rumble
Thanks to VorpalEdge for giving the first post. I have kept the original first post in the hidden portion below for those who want to know what was originally said, and it gives a great description of the game.

I have improved to a 50 minute run by the in-game clock using a team of Shaymin, Charizard, and Giritina. I have noticed a few things to do different, and I plan on testing them out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I fiddled around with the demo, and surprisingly find this game kinda fun.  It's different from all the other Pokemon games as it's not turn based strategy, but more of a real time button masher. ^^;;

In the game, you start out with a lone Ratatta, but have to get more powerful Pokemon to enter the rumble.  As you advance in classes, the level of the Pokemon needed to enter increases.

Class C = 100+
Class B = 200+
Class A = 400+
Class S = 600+

There's also a password system, which gives you a very powerful Pokemon, but it's limited to the class you're at.  So if you're at Class C, that Pokemon will be at Level 99.  It does advance as you move on in the game.  So when you hit Class B, it'll go from Level 99 to Level 199.  Obviously with this, using "Passworded Pokemon" would have to be a different category from those that only get Pokemon via normal means (Friended, Purchased, or via the Ticket System [release some Pokemon to get a ticket, which can get you a new Pokemon]).

There is an in-game timer.  You'll have to complete the game, choose continue, then go back to the terminal and go to the information booth.  I also need to figure out if certain areas will always give me the high level Pokemon in a class or if I'm getting them because I've gone though enough areas.  I mean, some of the level ranges can be huge.  One particular Pokemon I saw a 100 level difference in ones I got!

A good tip is to favorite your best ones, so they'll be near the top of the listing.

I don't have a time yet, but I did beat the game quick by mainly using Giratina (Origin Form) and Shaymin (Sky Form).  I did use my Lv 600+ Rapidash at the end to beat Mewtwo.

Edit: Current best time: 0:56 (W/ Password Provided Pokemon)

There does seem to be a pattern of when you get a Pokemon at a high enough level to tackle the rumble.  It generally seems to appear after you've beaten 3 bosses.

EDIT:45 minute run now complete, and uploaded to Youtube.

Thread title:
Would a speedrun of this game go through Advanced and EX rank? Or would those be separate? It would really need all of them to beat the game in its entirety. However, the EX Battle Royal is hard as hell if you aren't spending a lot of time getting the best Pokemon and movesets.
Fucking Weeaboo
Well, given that the game rolls credits (and returns you to the title screen) after Normal, those are kinda like NG+ modes.  IMO, anyways.

Makes sense. Yeah, this game would be much more speedrunnable with only doing Normal mode. I'd be more interested in using Pokemon you pick up instead of an overpowered password Pokemon. And what if you get a speedy trait Pokemon? That would severely cut your time by just running through levels.
I would be very interested in this run seeing how fun the actual game is.

Couple things that could increase the speed are:

Can the super power pokemon have traits such as speedy?
If they can't then will a lower level pokemon be able to "rush" the levels (i think it could because of how dodgeable most attacks are) then switch to the powerful pokemon near the end.

Maybe do that for the first 3 rounds then the fourth round just kill pokemon till you get a powerful one.

Also a slight speed boost is to spam the A button (at least on the GC controller) whenver switching pokemon, it takes two wind ups vs three.

Good luck on this run.
I enjoyed this game!

I agree that the game rolls credits after the first 'mode' so that might as well be the end of the "NG" speedrun, but I've gotta say, an EX speedrun would impress me TONS more than the other modes  Grin I easily played through normal and advanced, I had a lot of trouble on the second (set of) rumbles in EX, I didn't complete the third until I had a super Machamp and a super Garchomp and a strong Earthquake user, and try as I may I still can't get through the fourth.  I've gotten dozens and dozens of pokemon over 2300 power, including two 2391s.

Don't let that take away from the value of a normal mode speedrun though.  It would be cool and hopefully impressive.

So ideally you'd only beat a few pokemon per stage and get frequent lucky "drops"?  (I know that's basic ... I doubt I'll be very helpful in this game.)

edit: Woops, now reading the whole first post I see you're using password pokemon, which I know nothing about.  So my advice probably doesn't make much sense  Roll Eyes
Curse you, VG. If you hadn't made this topic I wouldn't have checked out the demo, and then I wouldn't have bought the full game, when I should be doing school work.

I'm sure it was all part of some insidious plot.
Fucking Weeaboo
Yeah, it is.  Sorry.

I did some testing today on Pokemon movement speeds with the password Pokemon.  The fastest 2 in the bunch are Mew and Charizard.  Charizard does have a higher attack, giving it an advantage, I think.

Shaymin definitely is needed when it comes time to capture Pokemon in the 4th stage of each class, since he has a 5 star attack rating, and it hits in all directions.  Giratina is also very powerful, but Shadow Force can have issues hitting some Pokemon, like Mewtwo.

Also having 2 or 3 very weak Pokemon helps for suiciding after getting a Pokemon high enough to allow you to enter the arena.  Rattatta, Pikachu, and one other (maybe like a Caterpie) would be good to have.  The rest you can generally ignore.

General Plan:

Class C

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Pikachu

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon

---
Class B

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Girantina or Charizard

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin or Girantina

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Girantina

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon

---
Class A

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Charizard or Girantina

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon

---
Class S

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Girantina or Shaymin

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Girantina or maybe Charizard?

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Girantina

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon
Who do you plan on using for the battle royals?
Fucking Weeaboo
Shaymin will be my primary Pokemon for rumbles, since its attack hits in all directions and is very powerful.

Do you think you could supplement him with a faster attack, perhaps something like Air Slash? Seed Flare is good for the main rumble, but it's kind of slow for the boss battles.

While you can buy extra abilities, that feature is entirely random.  And you can't switch out until the first Pokemon dies.  Besides, given that here's 3 bosses usually attacking at once, having a wide range attack like Seed Flare can allow me to hit all of them (plus any leftover Pokemon in the arena) all at once.
I know it's random, I guess I just made the incorrect assumption that this would be segmented.
Fucking Weeaboo
Nope.  HAHA.  I love single-segmenting stuff.

At least you can backup the save files, but damn it's annoying that you'd have to restore it after EVERY SINGLE CHANCE GAME.  Ugh.
That's true. Optimizing this game with segments would be a bitch.
Optimizing may be rough but single segmenting it would require just as much if not more time to get a good time. Segmenting it you can at least set it up so you can catch powerful pokemon fast. A single segment with these pokemon codes could take quite a while to get the required power level compared to a single segment run.

I don't think so, after a few stages the powers of the Pokemon are pretty constant, so if you kill a moderate amount of enemies you will get the right Pokemon in about the same amount of time as a segmented run.

You're probally right about that. Always seems like the third map you catch a pokemon that can get into a contest. Probally the biggest difference between segmented and single segment is the traits / personalities / moves of the pokemon which don't make that much of a difference anyway.
Exactly. Segmented would make a bigger deal if you were doing either a run without a password Pokemon or a New Game + on advanced or something like that. Maybe ILs for the EX Arenas?

Currently Running: Pokemon Rumble
Did some more movement speed testing today, and found something quite unexpected. There is a password Rattata available, which also has a speedy ability. I cuts about 9 seconds for every minute of movement based on my tests. It does have a draw back of its max level being about 390, meaning in the S rank it may be difficult to take hits, but its not like the attacks are hard to avoid.

I have had a chance to run through the game with it, using Sir VG's planned route(but with Rattata as a runner, Shaymin as a boss killer, and Charizard as a backup) with a time of 52 minutes. Now this sounds bad, but something which has messed up a few previous runs also affected this one. In rank A, the firey furnace seems to have a problem giving a pokemon over level 400. I ended up having to go through the full level (quitting a the boss room), and use the eternal tower instead. I have found that it has many pokemon in it, and that should mean better chances of finding something with a high enough level. My current plan for my next run is below in the hidden tags. Once again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Speedy Rattata will be used for running

Class C

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Pikachu

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon

---
Class B

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Shaymin

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Firey Furnace
Get Pokemon

---
Class A

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Shaymin

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Eternal Tower
Get Pokemon

---
Class S

Silent Forest
Boss: Use Shaymin

Rocky Cave
Boss: Use Shaymin

Bright Beach
Boss: Use Shaymin

Eternal Tower
Get Pokemon

All of the rumbles will use Shaymin, and Charizard if needed.

RESULTS: 0:49. Used Rattata to weaken the boss(Snorlax) of Silent Forest rank S. I have been having some problems with weakening him, and Double-Edge seemed to work quite well as I don't mind if he dies from recoil, as I can just switch in Shaymin to finish, and have Rattata back once I finish the stage. Also, I'm thinking of cutting out ranks A and S of the Rocky Cave. Due to the annoying Slowbro and their aqua jet(I'm guessing) attack, I seem to be loosing small amounts of time each floor. Currently there are only two possible switches, Windy Prairie and Fiery Furness. I am thinking Fiery Furness may be the best choice, as it seems to be easy enough to manoeuvre through. I also lost Shaymin during every rumble, something which does not normally happen. I plan on doing speed tests of all of the areas, as I am guessing they were not done in the past(and I want to make sure nothing is missing as there was in the pokemon speed tests).

You're Doing it Wrong!
Okay, major update time. As shown in the video in the first post, but not detailed any where else, the route has almost completely changed. The run now uses Eternal Tower, Fiery Furnace, and Windy Prairie as running stages, and Rocky Cave as the capture stage. Rattata now kills all of the bosses, except for S ranks, which it weakens, using double-edge. Shaymin now is only used for the capture stages and battle royales.

I managed to find a video that defeats the Rank C battle royale with the original Rattata in the first attempt(the one the player is supposed to lose). The video uses cheats but I think that it is possible without them. The player speeds the video up, has a cheat on that allows any move to OHKO, and I believe an invincibility cheat, so it is hard to tell if using that tactic will save any time, but the video does show that the game allows advancing to Rank B, with everything unlocked. If anyone is interested, the video is here:
You're Doing it Wrong!
Another year, another update. I took an extended break from the game after failing to make any progress on the original Rattata Battle Royale(I never did get to the final wave). Using the other route(Eternal, Fiery, Windy, Rocky, Battle), I managed to reach about a 41 minute run. I say about because Mewtwo sucks, and decided to kill the run. Here's a quick recap of the oddities of the run(no video for this, my capture computer has been out of commission this week):
-One of the tips in Rank A was a speedy Clefable. I used it as a safety net when Rattata died. It may have saved a minute at maximum, but I know that was eaten up by poor management of it(I wasn't prepared for it, and I made a few poor decisions to use it when I should have used something else).
-Rattata died twice in the run:Rank S Fiery and Windy. I only lost about ten seconds because I had Clefable, but otherwise, any accidental deaths would kill the run.
Ok, so ive been running this game for a couple months now using the team: Rattata (shiny), blastoise, and a speedy trait mamoswine for earthquakes. Im playing the game the fastet way possible by saving pokemon to my wii-mote so i dont have to enter passwords. My current best time is 35:06. Im certain that sub 34 is possible though. If anyone still reads posts for this game it would be cool to hear back to know what other really good times are.
You're Doing it Wrong!
I posted a question asking about using Pokemon brought over from a different save file would be a different save file a while back. The general consensus seemed to be that this would be a different category, so be sure to get the best Pokemon that you can.

A couple of questions about your set-up, is there any reason to use the shiny Rattata(I'm assuming it's the password speedy one)? I'm asking this mainly because if you have something like the speedy Mamoswine, there's no reason to use the weak Rattata that isn't able to take much of a hit in the S-rank. While something like Double-Edge can be useful, you could just get that(or something similar) on the Mamoswine. Second, is there any reason for the Blastoise? Every switch costs more time, and if you could use the same Pokemon for running and fighting, you might be able to cut some time without making big changes to the route.

I've been able to get down to about 38 minutes recently(passwords only). It's mainly about how quickly you can get the level you need. Best case scenario is that you can get the boss of the third stage to tip over and be the necessary level.

Great to see someone else show interest in running the game.
I will eventually look into optimizing what pokemon I use in the run. I just feel that the rattata is really good since I've actually been able to defeat every boss (even the S rank ones) with just double edge. It's a pretty difficult but it's consistent once you learn which attacks the bossses use. I actually improved my time to 34:25 today but my C rank was really weak. And I also really like having blastoise because aqua tail is an exceptional attack for damage as well as movement. It is slightly faster than walking, and its pattern is really good for dodging enemy attacks. I'm really glad I found someone else who is interested in this game. I thought I was the only one.
