Back in the game!
Here are a few updates on things!

I'm testing out starting with Chimchar, as suggested, and I'm already having a few issues with things.  The rival fight, heading to Oreburgh, was a lot more difficult due to Piplup's defenses (and Chimchar's lack therof).  Turtwig was actually faster here.

Machop is still captured North of Oreburgh City.  If the capture is made in the morning (not exactly sure on the timeframe for this), it can be caught at level 8.  By fighting a couple three rocks (depending on whether Onixes or Geodudes appear), you should be able to conjure up enough experience to hit level 15 by the time you beat Roark, assuming you fight the Miner in the southwestern corner of the mine, as well as the two optional gym trainers.  Machop can handle them all with relative ease.  If we can both get a guts Machop and find a reasonable place to get him Poisoned (I can't think of a single thing that works), then he can sweep the entire gym with non-critical OHKOs (except for Cranados due to Mold Breaker), regardless of nature or IVs.  If we can't use Guts, then if the nature and IVs are decent, it should still be alright, I believe.

Making the trade immediately after the gym is the most sensible thing, at level 15.  If, instead of going back toward Jubilife, you head back to where you caught Machop, you can Teleport back to Jubilife, effectively skipping the scripted event where the Rival talks to you in front of the cave.

Obviously, being at level 15 leaves Abra only one level away from evolution.  If anyone knows of a Rare Candy that I can get before the Galactic Grunt double fight with aid from Rowan's assistant, please let me know!  Otherwise I'm stuck relying solely on Turtwig for assistance.  In my previous run, I was able to get out of this battle within 3 turns at most thanks to Chimchar, but it's taking around 6-7 this time.  To get to level 16, Abra needs 500 exp.  The double fight yields 350.  So I'm either stuck relying on the other guy's Pokemon, plus switching in and out in the following battle, or we locate a Rare Candy.

That's where I'm at right now, so I'll make more updates as they come along.  I'll keep an extensive list of each battle post-trade this time around Smiley

Sorry, you aren't going to be finding any Rare Candies before then. Of course because they changed Pickup you have to be Level 21, so even if there was a Pokemon with Pickup you couldn't use it. And the first Rare Candy you can find is Solaceon Ruins (Edit: There is one in Wayward Cave, but it's way out of the way). Is there any way to fight some other trainer to get the rest of the experience with Abra?

P.S.
Morning begins at 4AM and ends at 10AM.
There's a word for that
Is there any move you can teach it by then to let it fend for itself? If not, you may just have to tough it out, but Kadabra should probably still be faster over the course of the game.

On the note of starters - now that I think about it, the HM's they can learn should also be considered:
Turtwig/Chimchar: Cut, Strength, Rock Smash, Rock Climb
Piplup: Cut, Defog, Surf, Waterfall
Huh, I didn't think Turtwig would be that useful... don't suppose there's anything reasonable that can learn Fly, Surf, Waterfall and Defog? Cheesy
its cold in here.

you can get hidden power at the trainer school in jubilife IIRC

Pelipper gets Fly, Surf, and Defog. no waterfall though D: (dumbass bird. If it can fly, why can't it climb a waterfall? it could just fly you up.) i think only dragonite and sallymence get all 4 and they would take waaay too much time lol

Chimchar might work out best.  I don't know for sure yet.  It really depends on how well Kadabra can handle Empoleon probably.  Well, I know that he can OHKO it with Grass Knot, but then that means I need to score a critical Psychic on Rival's Snorlax, if Charge Beam (after a + special attack from the first OHKO Charge Beam against Staraptor) won't work.  I do know that I think I have resolved this issue:  fighting two optional trainers after the trade with the switching around (total 3 pokemon), then lead with Chimchar and use Leer a couple of times in that Galactic double battle with Rowan's assistant:  Turtwig can 2HKO them by then, and it gives them time to KO Chimchar first.  Then I evolve immediately afterwards.

The Pokemon that I had trouble with before was Commander Mars' Purugly:  It's faster than me.  It knows Fake Out, Scratch, and Faint Attack.  Faint attack leaves me with 5-9HP from full health.  It's a 2HKO without a critical (Confusion is all I have), and if the variable damage on the first attack is too much, it activates the Oran berry that it's holding.  Plus I'm battling disobedience.  This fight sucks Sad

OMG you're right!  I totally overlooked that.  How do I get it, exactly?  Does it require extra battling?  It's weak as hell (34 base power), but it also is HP Ice, and is not Teleport!

you have to beat the 2 schoolkids w/lv 6 abras, and then talk to the male schoolkid you fought and he gives it to you.
Back in the game!
Hidden Power is enough to give Abra a nearly clean sweep of the gym...still have to fight the guy in the mine and the two optional trainers, but now no wilds, and now Kadabra is available before that double battle.  YAY!  8)
Back in the game!
If anyone would like the detailed list, I will post it later.

For now, after the trade, I have counted a total of 231 Pokemon that must be KOed.

Of those, there are 70 messages of some form.

7 Charge Beam Special Attack boosts

10 Critical Hits

The remainder are unavoidable Super Effective or Not Very Effective messages.
Back in the game!
Triple post, really?  Sad

The List, after Trade.  I'm not going to bother listing effectiveness, because most of you should know what's SE, NVE, or neutral.

Legend:
(CH) = Critical Hit OHKO
(VD) = Variable Damage OHKO
HP Should be obvious, but = Hidden Power
RS = Rock Smash (not Ruby/Sapphire!)
PB = Psybeam
GK = Grass Knot
SW = Shock Wave
SB = Shadow Ball
CB = Charge Beam
SpAtt ^ = Raised Special Attack Stat (via CB)
Lxx =  What Level Kadabra hits (when I started tracking it)

Spaces inbetween sets are different fights, everything is OHKO unless specified otherwise.

Oreburgh City:

Optional fight in the mine: Worker Colin:
Geodude: HP (CH)

Also to note, I found a total of 3 good uses of Teleport, and neither are the one suggested in the Strategy Wiki.

1.) Oreburgh City back to Jubilife:  Skips the Rival conversation, also skips luck manipulation for no wild encounters in both cave and grass.
2.) Windworks back to Floroma:  Just saves a small amount of time

3.) Comes at the expense of 1 and 2: Teleport back to Oreburgh after getting the bike, and cycle up the slope north of town.  This skips the encounter with the Aide, meaning no vs. seeker or dowsing app.
its cold in here.
that's pretty awesome. kadabra skips from lv. 19 to 21 in that double battle? i am certainly glad i decided to look at this topic, since hidden power seems to help a lot. We need a DS capture device so this can really be recorded properly. Did you use a dmg calculator or play through the whole game?

I played through the entire game, saving per trainer so that I was able to properly test variable damages and things like that.  To see if a neutral effective move would guarantee a KO in a certain situation (such as against Golbat instead of Psychic).  And etc.  I don't have any means at all to record, so this is now out of my hands.

I don't trust the calculators simply because I don't know enemy stats.
So... Could I see a route of the game (before the trade)
like, what starter, when to trade and who to fight?

(also, was it faster to use kazza to go through the game compared to the 4:02 shown in this thread?)

You want a route before the trade?

Choose starter (probably chimchar)
Fight forced wild fight
Fight only the forced trainer fights
Get to Oreburgh, catch a level 8 Machop in the morning.
Trade.

I'll guarantee that Kazza is faster than the 4:02 in this thread.  My time was just over 6 hours, but it entailed a lot of testing, a point where I fell asleep, and segmented at every single trainer to eliminate as many SE messages as possible.  I think this run should end up around 3:45ish.
The guy who did a 4:02 run:

Segment 8 (Oreburgh Gym - Valley Windworks): 0:32
Segment 9 (Valley Windworks - Valley Windworks 2): 0:39
Segment 10 (Valley Windworks - Eterna Forest): 0:42

How did he get to eterna forest before 0:45?

my clock right now says 0:45 and i'm only at valley windworks...
I used fastest text, named everything 1 letter, i fought 2 optional trainers so i could get to level 14 before roark...
where am  losing all my time?

(this is why i thought DP in 4 hours was impossible, because i'm missing something T_T)
Back in the game!
I did forget:  you have to fight the two trainers with Abras in the Training School to get Hidden Power too.

The trick to time savings with Kazza is:

Lack of needing X items
Lack of needing any Rare Candies
Elimination of a large number of Super Effective messages while still achieving OHKOs
Allright, I can see how i lost a bit of time between the beginning and roark, I faced 2 optional trainers, making my time to roark 0:35 and his 0:32. still. I am JUST at floroma town with 0:45 and he's in eterna forest with that time. what did I miss?
Back in the game!
More optimized earlier battles maybe?  I don't know.  Is this a test run?  If you have the means to record, I highly suggest you just reset and record a Kazza run with the outline!!  Smiley
Through the use of the tweaking glitch I've been able to beat Pokemon Diamond after getting the bike, via tweaking into the Jubilife void, saving at 430 North, and going 2500 east, 15721 south. Cynthia will talk to you and take you to the Hall of Fame immediately. This is heavily improvable with a closer Cynthia spot. What would be a decent target time for this route?
Too cool for 7th grade.
30 seconds.

Seriously, uh... If you can take less steps maybe 20-25 minutes?

It's been a while since I talked in this forum, but why would you revive a thread that is more than a year old? You could have made a new one.
This is however a good moment to reveal my newest time on Platinum. I did a more serious speed run with Torterra this time, and I got 3:52! I'll upload the video's on Youtube soon.
I have also a new Heart Gold run with an even more impressive time ready. Feraligatr is used of course.

At SDA, it is prefered to revive old forums rather than make new ones.

EDIT: You find that out the hard way.
My mistake. I hope you accept my apology. I just assumed it was like on other forums and tought it was wierd.
That's why I waited untill somebody mentioned the game again somehow. I shoud have read the rules more carefully.
Willing to teach you the impossible
This game is more confusing that the first 3 gens...
(I know this thread is old, but I don't see the point in making a new thread. Sorry if I'm wrong! ^^')

If anyone is doing a SS of D/P and using Piplup, I have some (hopefully) helpful data! I've started doing SS with Chimchar, butI decided to switch to Piplup. But, as stated earlier, a Prinplup gets OHKOed by Magical Leaf by Gardenia's Roserade.

Luckily, I think I have the data to solve the issue! I have recorded EVERY trainer's Pokémon's EXP, and exactly how much EXP is needed for each level-up. Also, I have the damage calculations for the number of HP Magical Leaf does at level 22, and hopefully more within the next day.

If anyone is interested in a run using the EXP charts I have, I will happily post them! I am about to start a test run, so any strategies would be helpful! (Especially help with X-Items - those are my weakest point...) Also, if anyone needs more damage calculations, I'll try to do those too! I hope someone will be interested in this new data!
Micromanager extraordinaire
Please do upload your data. Also, bumping old threads is the norm around here, so no need to apologize.

I might recommend watching this guy's Platinum test run (with turtwig as the starter) if you haven't already:
