I suggest trying to get a crit here and there, you'll need less turns then, so I'd say yes.

Early enough in the SS run to try for crits, you think?

There's a word for that
Getting that 50 exp sounds worth it to me based just on what you've said there, and who knows, it might even come in handy later.
As for other stuff...
Getting a Lucky Egg/hoping for crits in a Single Segment run isn't really an option since neither of them can be relied upon and so odds are they will screw up your run (for some fun times with Lucky Eggs, check out the Diamond/Pearl thread). For segmented... by all means, go ahead.
As for Rain Dance vs X-Specials... I would say stick with the Specials, as Rain Dance takes up a move slot and only boosts water moves while X-Spec can boost Ice Beam/Bite/Whatever.

Believe me, I know about the lucky egg.  I was merely trying to test it for segmented purposes, and I haven't even managed to get it there.  I was mistaken about the bug catcher battle, it takes 4 torrented bubbles, or 6 tackles.

Whoops, forgot about the SS part. I read something about saving so I initially thought it was segmented. ;/

One possible solution is to skip surge until later...after the SS Anne, head for rock tunnel, go thru rocket game corner, and then cut thru saffron and to the north to challenge surge then.  I suspect you'd lose about a minutes worth of time cycling instead of flying...however there is nearly zero risk of Raichu screwing my SS up.  Not to mention that by this point I should be faster than his voltorb and his raichu, and possibly be able to OHKO raichu...

Any thoughts?
What Are Ya' Buyin?
Sounds good to me.

Meh, surge and his damn trash cans!  I'm submitting a 3:04.40 run, HQ.  Without disc updating and switching and loading, it'd be 2:59, but they don't care about all that here.  I hope it's good enough for everyone for the time being, until luck likes me more =/
Too cool for 7th grade.
well it's like the SS Pokemon Red run, where the single segment is 30 minutes longer than the segmented.

Even if it's not accepted, send me the vid later tonight when you're on. I still wanna watch it. Smiley
Back in the game!
Good thing I'm stubborn and didn't settle for less...now I have a 2:49:09 on DVD being encoded for submission!  Is SDA ready?

Edit: It's on the verification topic (again, lol).  Ripped to my PC, waiting for you guys Smiley

Nice, will watch. It sounds like a good time for a SS when compared with the original Red and seeing as FireRed is arguably longer/more complex.

C'mon guys, I'm sure that some of you could be verifiers!  I'm ready to get my first run up already!
Back in the game!
Hopefully it gets posted...I apparently got a good and a poor review that I know of so far by the verifiers...I'm dying with the anticipation of knowing either way though.  In the meantime, I've been working on my e4r2 run touchup, and aim to begin attempting a real run very soon.  Any further ideas on this run, i.e. dex entries, safari/fishing, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Will it be SS or segmented?

I will do a SS for sure, but I may consider doing a segmented also afterwards, just because there are SO many things that can be done faster segmented. (i.e. catching the pokemon just by balling it, catching rare stone evolution pokemon {pika, jiggs, clefairy}, or just rare pokemon in general, allowing more use of repel later, etc.)EDIT: Also in a segmented run, I could feasibly obtain the lucky egg, which for those of you who don't know, gives you boosted (1.5) experience points for every pokemon you defeat while it's equipped, and it would apply for about 2/3 of the run...which may allow for the rare candies to be used to level evolve high level wild pokemon

Yeah, they both have their ups and downs. I wonder how long it would take to get there segmented VS single-segmented. Well, the time difference between the two.

Why not do both?

J/k. Tongue

Really though, I would like both. I for sure know that I would never SS my current Pokemon Blue 100% run haha.

I have "officially" taken over this topic.  First post outlines the basic run.  2nd post outlines (or will outline, ASAP) the "E4R2" run.  If anyone can think of anything better for either post, let me know please!
Back in the game!
Correct me if I'm wrong, add to the list if you can, let me know which of these rare candy evolutions would be best.  (Assume we only use one candy)

Safari Zone:

Paras -> Parasect
Nidoran M -> Nidorino (+ moon stone to Nidoking)
Nidoran F -> Nidorina (+ moon stone to Nidoqueen)

Islands:
Pidgey-> Pidgeotto
Oddish/Bellsprout -> Gloom/Weepingbell (+ stone evolution)
Psyduck -> Golduck (+ in game trade for lickitung)
Venonat -> Venomoth

Victory Road:
Geodude -> Graveller
Zubat -> Golbat
Machop -> Machoke

I will be updating second post later tonight for this run...any and all input is appreciated!

EDIT: Pokemon Mansion:
Ratatta -> Raticate
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
who needs more exp, give to them
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I think Pidgeotto can be caught wild on the islands.

Yep.  But I don't think it's level 35 or higher, and in a SS, I believe that evolution is faster than finding and then trying to catch with all the things that could go wrong.

Post 2 (Elite 4 Round 2) updated with I believe all the current information we have.  Please review and respond.

Bump!  Triple Post!

Oh, wait, this isn't Gamefaqs.

The real reason?  Re-modified, "perfect"? dex entry list.  Please review.

I found this at Gamefaqs. Not sure if either place is en route. Only 5% at Bond Bridge, but with an extra Rare Candy it's 15%, and Five Isle has a 15% chance with one candy. Not the greatest of SS pokemon to capture, but it's worth looking out for?

      Bond Bridge : Lv 34 at 10%, Lv 37 at 4%, Lv 40 at 1%
Five Isle Meadow : Lv 48 at 10%, Lv 50 at 5%
Bring me the flaming voodoo canonball!
I'm just hoping that the normal SS run gets posted soon >_>
The verifiers are taking too much time >_>
