Damn damn damn damn damn, people need to stop sending nicovideo stuff! Looking at the whatever it is I see loads of different times for different places, sigh I wish I could read what they all are going on about...

Translating is irritating because some parts I can't copy and paste, and good luck getting me to guess the right characters myself Tongue

Oh well, today I plan to make a few takes, I should watch for any new tricks now, but I don't want to try to figure out how to implement them... That would be better suited for an improvement run anyway! Cheesy
THIS RUN CONTAINS SECRET WORLDS
Keep in mind that cyghfer linked to the thread that explains how to sign up on nicovideo, and that I linked the video converter on the Earthbound thread. You should be able to watch it. With that said, I'm going to watch this RTA right now!
Oh I know how to watch the video's now, I'm just to lazy to repeat it for each video, tell me if there is anything interesting though that you don't think Ill be doing
I'm also going to check it out. Do you have a route made up Raiker? I made one for XD, I would highly suggest you make a 100% route, it really helps, if you haven't already done that.

Yup, I posted it a bit back, but here it is again.

I'm pretty sure that I can do this next segment easily enough the late luck portions are just the trouble.

Funny thing, I remember during my speed test I was getting 80% or so on scaring shy guys, now I get 100 without any trouble at all. Practice is a wonderous thing isn't it?

EDIT: Been doing some segment 17 work and just saying this may take a bit, stupid me putting luck at the end of a segment of annoyances...

(Clarification: Peach's baking bit takes around 4-5 minutes, then I have to hunt down shy guys *which I don't do perfect often enough sadly* and then after all of that I have to manipulate the anti guy fight, it will take several more tries to get this all to work out how I want)
Sorta an update post and a rant all in one.

Dear Anti guy.

  I hate you.

Your enemy,

  Z

I'm sure everyone can guess why I haven't gotten 17 out yet.
Well good news I now have 17-21 done!

Segment 17:
Anti guy is a bitch to manipulate, and the Peach segment at the beggining is boring. Skip to 4:50 unless you want to watch Peach bake.

Segment 18:
I start doing errands, how fun.

Segment 19:
More errands, enjoy.

Segment 20:
Three semi difficult scares here, oh wait due to white clubba practice I now can do them 100%. Joy...

Segment 21:
Thrown in because I can, segment 22 is Yoshi Kids, but this one is just a fight and some running really, probably could've included it in segment 20 if I wanted to.

Not sure when 22 will come out, I doubt it will be before Awesome Games Done Quick, but I do plan to work on it during the marathon.
Congratulations on the Anti-Guy fight, mate. Must have been really annoying, you had to reset and do the Peach stuff every time Sad

I like how the game lagged during the Dark Koopa fights. Good job scaring them all. I hated having to Spook away enemies in my emulator run.

Nice job taking care of the Fuzzipede in the...erm...Tuna. Keep up the good work! I'll be looking forward to segment 22 and the rest after the marathon.

Thanks, he's a jerk this segment wasn't perfect, but it had no real mistakes, my best one was ~5 seconds ahead of that one by the time I reached anti guy.

I loved that part, it was annoying, and the last one I was afraid would I'd jump on, but I was lucky enough to go over him, lag can be a pain. The best part of that segment was during practice when I got 3 100's, took away practice time really quick.

Ya... tuna... poor thing, forced to give Kolorado a ride when he's so rude lol. One of my biggest worries in the run is FP consumption, I can get enough to make it past chapter 5 easy enough, but chapter's 6 and 7 have me a bit worried... (In speed test and practice run's I ended with a ton to many FP restoring items so I've cut a few out that were slow/costly.

22 hasnt been any better then I expected it would be. I have to dodge an enemy for a badge (not hard), manipulate a scare (not that hard considering I can get ~90-95% of the bar) and manipulate a FP point from the fight (roughly 1/4 chance of not getting the heard and like a ~85% chance of scaring all 4 M. Bush's), Dodge another enemy to upgrade Sushi (he's a bit harder then the first), pray to dodge an enemy by a pipe to a yoshi (ok, so this one is merely a hope instead of a demand, but if I could miss him thats a good 10 seconds saved), dodge 2 more enemies (roughly in between the first two dodges, way easier then the last (hopeful) one), manipulate a Fright Jar to scare two pirahna plants (again, FP saving strategy, and outside of speed test I haven't done this... grr), and then remember after all that to dodge another enemy (not to hard, but way easy to forget about). Oh right, and through all of this I have to get whiny little yoshi's and collect stupid things.

Don't worry I'll be working for this, and after it, I don't think I'll have a truely difficult segment until.... Bowser's castle. Ya, sure there are some annoying manipulations in chapter 6 and 7, and I'm a bit concerned about FP, but those are nothing compared to the annoyances of this segment.
oh geez. I remember having to scare away the 4 mr bushes.

Just keep it up, and persevere, and your hard work will pull off. On that note, if i could take only one partner with me in this game, I'd take Sushie. All four of her abilities are useful. Belly flop lets her hit flying enemies and knock them down, Squirt does massive damage to one, and it even hits enemies on the cieling, and i'm pretty sure it knocks over enemies.

Water Veil is useful too, and Tidal Wave is just awesome. She's a pretty great partner. Looking forward to Mt. Lavalava, mate!
The four M. Bushes (Pretty sure M stands for mysterious) aren't the hard part, I fail to scare all four one out of every 5 tries or so. The worst part is the enemy dodging and the P. Plant with fright jar scare. If you want I can post the route I'm taking (up to the Pirahna plants, which I'm positive I won't scare off in a random take) and add annotations about what I'm manipulating and everything (that would actually be a pretty fun thing to try since I'm still new to making videos lol).

My favorite overall is Watt, a Piercing attack, boosting Mario's attack, and stunning enemies? Ya Watt has enough skills to dominate most fights. Not to amazing in speedrunning (at least not all the time) because of only one attack and others can do more damage, but still very useful.

After Watt I'd have to say Bow, I guess it's just because I'm weird but the scare and invulnerability is nice and fan smack is just a funny attack that does tons of damage (but its weak point is evil!)

I think the only times I really used Sushi outside of her out-of-battle ability is for Lava Pirahna.
If you want to, you can.

Watt is nice, but I feel her abilities are too redundant. Mega Shock, while useful, does the exact same thing as Electro Shock, just all enemies. While it can be argued that Sushi's Tidal Wave does the same thing as Squirt, it's true--but that's damage, so it's a different cup of tea altogether.

Fan Smack is the reason I never used Bow, I ran into too many enemies with defense and she just couldn't do anything.

I didn't notice how good Sushi was until I just had my casual run.
Turns out I won't have to sadly (Though I may for my own amusement because I have the file already) I have a segment 22 that I got tonight and will be uploading tomorrow (unless you know, the internet is a jerk) I am so relieved for this, all manipulations happened along with a huge stroke of luck.

I always made Mario my multi attacker, and I love paralyzing/weakening enemies, shrink stomp is a boss blessing because if I remember right it works (semi-rarely) on a ton of the bosses and most of the minibosses. I never use Watt's *or Sushi's for that matter* final move I don't find them worth the FP loss. Fan Smack + Kent C. or Huff N' Puff = <3

I tend to stick with Watt, although I use almost everyone (Except the Koopa, I can't even bother to remember if its Kooper or Koops; after chapter 3 he gets outdated because of the masses of flying enemies and better partners)

Well tomorrow's post should have 22 the time is 2:44:45 for anyone following that.
It's Kooper. And yes, that's my main problem with him. He can't hit aerial enemies.

I really liked Lakilester, but he just doesn't do enough damage. Great personality and characterization, though.

That time is great, btw. I'm really looking forward to this run. For Kent C I ended up putting defensive badges on Mario (P down, D up; Damage Dodge) and having Goombario charge for a few turns. It was effective, but I'm sure Bow should do better.
Ya, I never bothered to remember which was which, although I think I like Koops from TTYD.

The only reason I liked "Spike" is because he makes you move faster, but in a speedrun speedy spin puts him to shame, I do like his intro's though its always nice to have a GF plead for an enemies life.

For Kent C. I used sleep stomp and fan smack if I wasn't using goombario strategies, it makes little difference either way, as long as you can block his shell attack and know to attack the tail, you can use any partner you want.

Last but not least, as promised segment 22:

I'll let it speak for itself why I'm glad that I got this.
Oh wow. Excellent work, man. It was kind of unfortunate the spear guy didn't notice you at first, but it was awesome seeing you jump circles around him. Was getting the coins down there necessary? I don't think it's any slower though, so whatevs. Great job taking care of the M. Bushes.

Also, I had no idea that Thunder Rage was there. And, seriously, major congrats on dodging that damn spear guy before green yoshi kid. I hate that guy so much. I'm glad the Fright Jar worked. The gold fuzzy is so obnoxious.

Anyway, that was an awesome segment Raiker. Pretty much everything went exactly as planned, the overworld movements were smooth as always, and dodging enemies didn't take too long at all. Keep it up.
The coins under the water cost maybe 1/10th a second, if they cost any time at all, but I got them for when I run away (which never happened). I like to get that thunder rage because it looks cool and if it hits the ground I know I'm going to slow. That spear guy is pure freaking luck, there is a way to make it happen more by "falling" from the spin flower (I think I explain it in the description) but its not like you get that much more time...

I'm limiting my tries on segment 23, I have a run that I make one minor mistake and I scare the Piranha Plants, but I have to wait for the magikoopa to run, its a 5 second loss over a perfect run, but I'm not going to go out of the way to scare all four since its hard (not to mention I'm getting worried about my joystick... I should get a new controller before this one breaks like I think it will) and I have a decent enough attempt as it is. I think I'm giving myself 5-10 tries to get a perfect scare and everything, but the only time out of all my attemmpts I've done a perfect scare I grabbed an item and a heart... Its absurdly annoying to get FP and no HP when that fight spams them.

I've also done 2 RTA's of Start-Koopa Bros SS; I'm thinking about recording one just to start working on paths for a SS run. I got a 41 game timer and 42:15 hand timer. I think I'm going to hand time all my segments before submitting and if there is a noticeable difference I'll mention it, because the difference in times was about 45 seconds, which if the game has random points that it doesn't time (I think the chapter intro screens the game doesn't time) then if its more then a few minutes difference it probably shouldn't be using game time right?

Well no matter what happens I should post 23 tomorrow or Monday, even if I don't save those whole 5 seconds Tongue
I would really recommend getting a new controller if you think this one is going to fail on you. On one of my test runs for Pokemon XD, I was getting an amazingly good segment and my controller died on me (I was using a wireless one), so it taught me that you should always prepare for the worst, and have a backup plan. If you think anything might go wrong, fix it now before it becomes a potential problem later.

Honestly, SS 100% for this game sounds bloody brilliant. I think it would be really entertaining to watch. If you want to do it, more power to you. I honestly shy away from single segmenting anything, but I would want to single segment this game if I had an N64.

I cant wait to see it i hope it comes out today lol. but no rush if it does not.
I plan to, my sister was supposed to get me a few for xmas (we like playing MK64, and our other one broke) but she hasn't gotten them, so I may just order one just in case.

The SS isn't for 100% oh god no, and tbh its more casual then anything and it would be any%. It's nice to do, I've been working on a rough plan for a SS and been doing a bit of SM64 (Joined a race the other day and got destroyed :P, my bad) Just something to do, ya know.

Last and maybe least, I have two segments for this post, 23 and 24. 23 is way substandard compared to most of my other segments, but there is a small reason. Not only do I need to scare everything, but I had to get FP points and get off the screen quickly. Any other take (meaning anything that scared that stupid magikoopa too) I wasted more time trying to not run into anything I didn't want to then getting off the screen, or I'd lose time by picking up what I don't want (Like a fire flower). I settled for this (for that reason and out of a bit of concern for my controller) because it was a strong segment and I'm not overly picky. 24 is just another segment 17, without the epic defeat of a fairly difficult miniboss, instead... I go through a lava pit, and upgrade Parakarry.

23

24

25 should be out tomorrow, but 26 may take a bit, its a fairly long segment, with two fights and a peach intermission, I plan to work on it a bit, but no promises for a timeframe.
Ah, I thought it was 100%, but then I remembered you'd have to manipulate chuck quizmo and stuff which makes 100% SS pretty moot.

However, this game SS any% still sounds like it would be a blast to watch, especially if it had really good execution. I love Miles' latest SS for MP2: Echoes, besides a few mistakes, it has optimization similar to a segmented run.

23 and 24 were nice, no real complaints. It kind of sucked that Magikoopa didnt run away, but you got the FP and got out of there, so no worries I suppose.

I listen to Paper Mario OST, since I think it's a great and varied soundtrack, plus Paper Mario is like my 3rd favorite game anyway. Point being, Raphael the Raven has such a neat theme.

Kolorado is hilarious, I wish you could have him join your party, but I don't know what he'd ever do. I'd use him, anyway. Nice job getting on the moving platform as soon as you could, and dodging the ember, though it was unfortunate you got hit by the ember. I'd say the overall execution of the segment makes up for it, though.
Chuck isn't to horrible, its the coins that makes me not want to do a 100% SS. Not really worried, I don't really think there will be many people trying to beat this run, I wanted a solid run to be up, not a perfect run, mainly I hope that my time is beaten someday, but I hope my route is still the one used to beat me :). I hate Kolorado, he's like Twink, but exclusive to the chapter, he just chimes in with useless information when I'd rather be trying to progress, the second room inside the volcano for instance, if he wasn't talking reaching that platfor would be no problem.

I'm gonna take a bit of a break, probably play some SM64 and NSMB, I need a Paper Mario break, and segment 26 is a planned 15-16 minute segment :\ (BTW 27 is the one that gave me the most trouble in the speed test) So I think to preserve my sanity, I need a break from Paper Mario for awhile.

Before my break though I leave you with my first (and most likely only) segment to be done in one try! Smiley

Segment 25:
Nice Segment. I just had a playthrough of Paper Mario like a month back, and I had no idea that room with Dizzy Stomp was there before Tongue

Good job landing right under the Super Block. Also, I didn't know the Ultra Hammer could flip up star piece panels. I'm assuming it's only the Ultra Hammer that can do that.

Also, owch, it sucks you got nailed by the spiky boulder. Anyway, good luck with 27.

26 you mean?
No, I meant 27. Because it gave him the most trouble during his speed test.

I know what I said!
