1) I'm planning on doing a 100% run after this any% run (just need to test a couple minor details before I start).

2) Yes, the "World" Ending would be part of 100%.
I would also think that all characters (save for Galf) should be recruited (which means Lyon/Deneb).
In addition, all maps shold be completed as well.
Sellable junk and buried treasure I don't think would need to be included, but we'd need an official ruling on that one.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I feel kind of dumb for forgetting this in the first place, but the game basically does give you a % when you finish.  There's a number between 0 and 100, I think it's called Chaos Frame or something, and it's basically how much of the stuff required for the World ending you completed.  100=World, a little less=Empress/Emperor, etc.

Why should you need to do anything more than is required for Chaos Frame 100 for it to be called "100%"?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Sellable junk and buried treasure (I thought treasure could be sold) is definitely NOT part of 100%.

For 100%, I would say get the good ending and do all the maps.  Since recruiting all of the characters isn't possible, it is stupid to include that as part of 100%.  Then again, I haven't played the game in five or six years. Is there anything that can be permanently added to your inventory?

Balnabz:  Typically 100% runs on SDA have to do with item collection (metroid, mega man x runs), or doing all of the quests (Chrono Trigger).  Getting the good ending in Ogre Battle doesn't exactly count as 100%.

With either of the two techniques mentioned in mind, my question is whether we really want to go so far as to enforce this for 100%.

My other question: You're giving Galf the Brunhild Sword in either of these.  Does that make it impossible to do the World ending or any of the endings that require the three Mystic Treasures?  If it does, we CAN'T have 'all characters' be part of 100%, since the World ending is so important.  (Though we still need to get Rauny and Tristan - I believe both are NECESSARY for the World ending.)
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
But this game isn't like Megaman in terms of getting stuff, and it does have an internal mechanism for tracking how many of the required things you've done (including getting certain items and certain characters), and at the end of the game a numerical value between 0 and 100 comes up on the screen to represent that.  It seems like a better way of determining percent than anything else.

The good ending plus all maps seems like adding unnecessary stuff to me- like saying for Super Metroid 100%, you have to beat Spore Spawn.  The game tells you in the ending how much of the necessary plot stuff you completed.  So what if the number doesn't have a % symbol after it?

AquaTiger: Having Galf guarantees the Devil ending, regardless of what else you do.
Pudding%
My definition of 100%:

All maps cleared.
All special characters recruited EXCEPT Galf.
World Ending (Galf ruins this).
-All 12 Zodiac Stones.
-3 Mystic Treasures (Grail, Armband, Brunhild).
-Near-Full to Full Reputation.
-Opinion Leader with High (near 100) Alignment and Charisma.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Most of the stuff you just said is already required in the World ending.  You're just getting some extra characters and doing some extra maps.

My point is, everyone who's posted so far has had a different definition of what 100% is.  So why not go by the percent that comes up on the screen at the end of the game, which is pretty close to what everyone's talking about anyway?  That way at least it doesn't seem arbitrary, because there's a number right there saying what percent you got.

Most characters are pretty trivial to get save for a couple, and if we're clearing all the maps anyway they might as well be obtained.

As for maps:
It takes 16 minimum to finish the game (regardless of route taken).
Maps required for World ending (maps that are in my current route denoted in bold):
-Castle of Warren (Lans, Warren)
-Sharom (Star of Heroes)
-Sharom District (Canopus, Gilbert)
-Pogrom Forest (Mercury, Olden Orb)
-Lake Jannenia (Opal)
-Slums of Zenobia (Ashe, Key of Destiny, Garnet)
-Island Avalon (Aisha, Emerald)
-Kastolatian Sea (Brunhild)
-Diaspola (Norn, Aquamarine, Pearl)
-Kalbian Peninsula (Only map that opens Tundra and Antalia)
-Valley of Kastro (Rauny, Chaos Gate: Muspelm)
-Balmorian Ruins (Saradin, Chaos Gate: Organa)
-Muspelm (Slust, Peridot)
-Organa (Fenril, Ginger Cake)
-City of Malano (Tristan, Ruby)
-Antalia (Yushis)
-The Tundra (Turqoise)
-Shangrila (Debonair, Tablet of Yaru, Sapphire)
-Fort Allamoot (Chaos Gate: Ruined City)
-Ruined City (Fogel, Diamond)
-Dalmuhd Desert (Gem of Doun, Amethyst)
-Ryhan Sea (Gem of Truth, Topaz)
-Fort Shulamana (Mystic Armband)
-Shrine of Kulyn (Grail)
-City of Xanadu
-Zeteginea
-Temple Shalina

I count 27 maps there, the only ones exluded being Deneb's Garden, and Antanjyl. I don't see any reason why all maps wouldn't be included in 100%.

All buried treasure is equipment. Sellable junk is only found at towns and such.
The only 2 characters that have no bearing on the ending at all are Deneb and Lyon. Lyon is in Slums of Zenobia, which is a required map, and practically in my way anyway (not to mention has a huge STR rating...which is helpful at that point). Deneb is the only huge PITA, and even then isn't hard to get if done right.

I gotta agree with Dragondarch...his criteria seems the most comprehensive/logical, and most importantly, entertaining to see thoroughly ripped to shreds.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I mostly agree with DragonDarch's definition of 100%, I'm just wondering why Galf can't be recruited for the best ending.

Balnabz:  Using the ending as a definition for 100% doesn't seem very...complete.

When I mentioned getting every single character was possible, I was told this:

Quote:

So it's something in the game that forces that issue, apparently.

I had originally thought a low Reputation was a second requirement for the Devil ending.  However, I really think it has to do with the fact that in order to get Galf, you're required to give him the Brunhild Sword, which is one of the items for the 'Mystic Treasures' requirement of a couple of endings.  So "artifact corruption" could play a role there.

Beyond that, I have no explanation.
Pudding%
I just spent quite a bit of time testing things out this afternoon, and I did at the very least figure out that you CAN'T get the Devil ending without Galf...

And yeah, what AquaTiger said is accurate. Getting Galf requires relinquishing Brunhild, which is required for the best ending anyway.

So it's looking like all characters aside from Galf, all maps cleared, and World Ending for 100%...

As an aside, I'm somewhat of the belief that the "Chaos Frame" number they give you is actually how full your Reputation bar was when you finished the game. I just had 2 different endings (Tower and Death) and both had a 6pt. Chaos Frame.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yeah Dragondarch, that sounds good for an 100% run.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
DD already beat me to this but whatever.

The percentage shown at the end is NOT anything like Metroid. Chaos frame is your reputation meter. If this was like Metroid, I would agree that 100% here is the definition, but it's not.

I think in just 2 easy steps (it's prioritized, so any later step must still satisfy anything earlier) you can encapsulate 100% for this game. 1) world ending, 2) all characters. I am not 100% certain right now, but I don't think any of the stages don't contribute to this. Galf is not recruited only because #1 comes before #2.

If someone wanted to argue for a world ending only, I could see that. Except since DD is doing the run, he should do what he wants. And frankly it seems most people agree with him.

I just got another idea. It would be possible to do a short FIRESEAL run of this game too, since that is a self-contained stage that can be done fresh from the main screen.
100% runs=great to watch
I agree a FIRESEAL run would be cool too...same principle as that one password that makes Kid Icarus for NES waaay the hell harder.

OK, I PM'd Gunty over at TASVideos in hopes that he can give me a little insight on how different actions in battle affect the RNG. If he has the information I asked for, then I should have a bit easier time trying to get Camu to drop his Jewels.

However, in the meantime, rather than continue to shoot in the dark trying to get it to drop, I think it would be more productive to move onto another run. So I'm going to try and start the any% run this week. I already pretty much have the  entire game planned (and some of the 100% planned as well), so it's all more or less luck manipulation at this point. I have a few calculations I still need to make (namely, how many of which Tarot Cards I'm going to need and when), but it shouldn't take me too long to get those calculated.

Sweet, this is the 2nd best possible news (no prize for guessing #1).

I haven't been to tasvideos forums in forever, but did you know someone is making a OB TAS? You might want to watch or check the thread for tips. I watched the TAS WIP as well as a unassisted SS run on emu, and I remember being somewhat puzzled and slightly disappointed. This to not to say that the TAS was bad, it's all a blur and I already forgot what it was like.

Edit: Hmm, and now the #1 best news actually happened. Tongue
Now that the Lufia II run is done. . .Dragondarch, is your queue correct? Are you working on the Ogre Battle run again? Although I don't have much advice to give (I've only beaten Ogre Battle once for the evil ending), I'd love to see this posted.

It is correct, but I need to replace the battery in the game altogether. I can't save anything at all and this is going to require luck manipulation (like 90% of my runs nowadays).

Thanks for finding this topic, though. I would have probably just started a new one instead of trying to search for this one Wink
I have the same problem with the battery in my copy of Ogre Battle. Otherwise, I'd offer mine. I found this website that gives a how-to for replacing the battery:  http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/11/how-to-change-snes-game-save-battery.html. The other option might be to petition people to lend their copies of OB.

OK, so I've finally replaced the battery in my copy of the game...saves like a champ now.

Just finished Slums of Zenobia stage (stage 5 in this run), and I'm at about 22 minutes (or 23.5, depending on whether the time starts when I start answering Warren's questions, or when I get to the map screen for the first time).

Which actually brings up a timing question: My first segment only lasts until after the questions are answered, as I was manipulating certain Tarot Cards. The save occurs about 5 seconds after seeing the map screen for the first time...I'm not entirely sure which point would be used for a definite start point as I don't actually have control of my character until the map screen.

So far collected 4 of the 6 items I want: 2 INT boosting items, 2 White weapons, and 2 Black weapons. All I need now is the 2 Black weapons.

Island Avalon will take a bit longer then the previous stages, since this is a good powerleveling point (4 groups with high level undead). My Opinion Leader is only level 5 so I need the boost. I'm pretty sure I can avoid further leveling until City of Xanadu, or possibly Zeteginea if I avoid all the Gares clones. Either way, I need a second one to raise my Opinion Leader high enough to make attack Tarots effective against the final bosses.

EDIT: Island Avalon done...took almost an hour of restarts due to bad fights occurring. Total time for the segment was about 18 minutes or so...wound up with exactly the levels I wanted, Warren and the other Wizard can both be mages (Warren's Alignment bottomed out AFTER the change thankfully). Diaspola is next and will be slighly annoying due to the small sidequest I have to do for the Undead Staff.

EDIT 2: Completed Diaspola, roughly 8 minutes or so. Needed to do some group swapping so I'd have a 3rd High Sky unit to make sure I had all the necessary towns liberated before defeating Norn.

Equipment collected thus far:
Rune Axe (White)
Rune Axe (White)
Relic Sword (Black)
Liebel's Rod (INT)
Liebel's Rod (INT)

I also have a Black Bow, but the STR on it rather low, and there's an item pretty much directly in my path in Kalbian Peninsula, so I'm aiming to get another good Black weapon there.
