I tried the other possibilities and he wont sell any more.

you could get 41 magic beans though if you used spooky mask to get 20 with empty bottle, planted 7 in the soil, then used spooky mask + bug to get 29, plant the last 3 so you have 26, then drink B bottle to get halfmilk, 31 magic beans. then go buy the 10 from the guy, to get 41.

useless but hey would be fun for a "101%" file

EDIT: WHOA!!!!

Quote:
Could there be other suff you add value 29 there with bugs or use Tsearch to add even higher value there? What would that guy to say to that thing.

I tried this out just for the heck of it and SOMETHING REALLY WEIRD happened!!!

if the "magic bean popularity" value is 128, this happens:

?????!!!! nothing actually changed in my trade item slots...

EDIT2: WTF
Awsome job Cosmo,
anticlimactic result aside there must be other places where this same rule applies. The programers might not have left all those "unused" bytes unused. If you take a look at the hex view in Tsearch you can do a quick search for any more of these anomalies.

Also if you have a 100% file can you post it here? I would like to check myself as well

Here you go. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/save/197771.html
I just got a video in one of my subscriptions that would seem to save time in a 100% run.

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=M8T2yiI8u2U

Sorry if this may be old, or if ZeldaXmaster posted it here already (checked through last 3 pages and didn't see it).
Is it known what values the Gerudo Mask and Mask of Truth point to?  They aren't listed on Cosmo's RBA chart (aside from their item number).  Following the pattern of item numbers, they wind up in between regular equipment (tunics, boots, swords, shields) and left-side equipment (bomb bags, scales, etc.).  Have these values been accounted for?

What do you get if you BA with them?  A Deku Stick?  And I'm assuming that RBA with one of them has never led to anything noticeable.

Also nice job with the Bunny Hood, Cosmo.  Once I realized what you were doing, I really wanted to see the bean salesman try to sell you a bean for 250 rupees, hahaha.  Apparently it checks to see if the value is >=10 rather than just ==10.  Oh well.

Yup...  those 2, and SOLD OUT on c-right (even though its not possible on a console) also gives you deku stick.

who knows, they could be anything. maybe they're something like "# of silver rupees needed to clear the current room" or "small keys (treasure shop)"

Here's the new run for 1.0 only. If you want to run any newer version you'll have to merge segment 6 and 7 into one long-ass segment, resulting in a 20s disadvantage compared to a run done on 1.0. The final time is 1:02:17, here are the exact times:

SEGMENT 1 - 0:01.833
SEGMENT 2 - 1:17.766
SEGMENT 3 - 0:54.466
SEGMENT 4 - 16:34.500
SEGMENT 5 - 4:26.866
SEGMENT 6 - 3:17.600
SEGMENT 7 - 11:55.133 (I should have equipped the chicken to c-left then c-right to swap with bombs instead of pausing/unpausing and then doing it with the hookshot, that's a matter of frames though)
SEGMENT 8 - 2:23.900
SEGMENT 9 - 8:52.800
SEGMENT 10 - 12:32.400 (I fail at doing quickspins on a keyboard so this should be done slightly faster on console)
TOTAL - 1:02:17

The worst two parts are easily escaping the forest (your position has to be nearly pixel perfect, unless someone knows an easier way) and manipulating the bomb drop from only one bush. Everything else is pretty easy (maybe except ganon).

I can watch it just fine. Here's the direct link.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
nice to see the improved run up. i'll watch later.

also, at this point we're basically in the same position as metroid prime 1 runners. there's a really optimal route that barely goes over 1 hour and we're trying to find something out of the ordinary to lower the time.

also, surprising that v1.0 has the advantage again.

Maxx: 2008-06-06 03:15:22 pm
Well the only real advantage that 1.1 and 1.2 ever had were the ability to use a Deku Stick on B (and be able to ISG without re-equipping the Master Sword).  Once Acryte got the bridge skip without ISG, then 1.0 had the advantage in savewarping.

Personally I think segment 4 is pretty hard, but I haven't really given it enough practice.  The rest of the run doesn't look bad at all, especially compared to previous routes.  I guess the last segment is kind of hard, too.

I'm still hunting down a 1.0 cart.  Smiley

Also, that's a really nice demonstration, groobo.  There were a lot of little timesavers in there that I didn't know about (like sidehopping past the ReDead).  Very cool stuff.

How many retries did that forest escape take you?

You can only use your Deku Stick on B on the GCN version, it isn't possible on 1.1 or 1.2.

Number 4 is easily the hardest segment and it's only because of the ass-hard forest escape. It took me about 20 minutes straight to finally get the right position while hovering and that's with using savestates. If the positioning wouldn't have to be nearly pixel perfect (like literally I was two pixels more to the right one time and I couldn't clip through the bridge with any mega move at all and I've tried like every possible frame for sidehopping) this segment would be a piece of cake.
Don't think!  feeeeeal
You think a TAS could get under an hour with shaving time everywhere, owl skips, maybe a couple peehat SSes, getting 2 or 3 bomb drops and doing 5-10 more SSes.

When going from KF to KV could it be faster to run off track to that peehat and then SS?

And when back walking from castle to LH, where are the closest things that you could SS off of?

And what about the trails skip where you do it on the ground just by jump slashing into the middle thing, or maybe need a mega flip?
boss
1. Prolly yes.
2. Getting the right angle is a bitch. I don't think that it would save much if any time anyway.
3. You mean as adult? You'd have to stop sliding halfway because of the fences.
4. Jumpslashing into... wait, what? Mega flipping (possible?) or hovering into the tower would require extra bombs.

Ya, what about mega flipping into the ganon tower?  You could skip doing that HF SS, or TAS could do it with more bomb drops.

I'm assuming the owl skip tricks don't work on other cut scenes like the rainbow bridge, but what about falling into the pit, maybe do a mega flip to activate the cutscene, or flip then get boosted afterwards.

Eeeeyah!
I have been trying to megaflip into the Tower for awhile. If anyone wants to try they should use this angle:

Getting bombs for the megaflip won't be a problem, you could either get one from the grass in segment 7  or get a bombs from the Bemo in the first room of Ganon's Castle.

I think you could skip the bridge cutscene by dieing. Just get attacked by a redead  so Link's down to half a heart, then kill Link with a bomb right when you enter the cutscene. You then go get another Bombe drop from the Bemo in the first room. I'm not completely sure this would work though.
I'm not your buddy, guay!
Well if you use your last bomb on the beamos and then you get 5 more...you could always use the bomb staircase method into Ganon's Tower.

Ya it just takes two bombs:

So there's the KV grass patches twice and the beamos in ganon's trials, anything else to pick bombs off of?  Looks like there's 3 patches in lost woods you'll pass by.

Getting two bomb drops seems a lot better, you could do that quick two bomb method into ganon's tower and 2-3 more SSes.

getting 10 bombs right away seems like it would be TAS only, bomb drops are pretty rare.

i do like the idea of getting 5 from beamos with your last bomb then using ZXM's trials skip method. pretty sure that's faster.

Hmm... I've been thinking.

Would it be possible to Bomb Hover, then pull out another bomb, drop it just right so that the end of the explosion hits you, and Megaflip off the explosion in midair?

It probably isn't possible, as the explosion would come from underneith you and hit you first instead of your shield. But if it can be done, then it'll probably save a lot of bombs in an any% or 100% run.

If not, well, it was worth a shot.

If this was already played around with or already known, then sorry for bringing it back up.

No, that's impossible. While hovering, you can only megaflip off something that can cause damage, but doesn't knock you back when shielding (eg. deku nuts and skulltulas).

Also, good idea with the alternative trials skip. Getting the extra bombs  from the Beamos will lose very little time.

I tested if getting two bomb drops and then saving will be faster than the current route and it failed pretty bad. The hover trails skip method is 12s faster than clipping through the spirit trail btw (minus time required to get more bombs), but requires 3 bombs since you need something to activate isg (and a bomb is the fastest option there). How long does it take to get a drop off the beamos?

edit: Getting an extra drop from the grass in segment 7 isn't an option No questions asked.
