Ok, IMO it's time for adult link to be introduced to this topic.  Kid Link's still there so if there are issues with that feel free to bring them up.

Adult Link has a ton of his own problems.  The good news is that there are substantially fewer heart pieces for adult link and that you have explosives right from the start.  The bad news is that you have to deal with the Biggoron's sword sidequest which includes several timed sections, you have to get epona at some point who is in the perpetually out of the way Lon Lon Ranch(you honestly spend very little time actually crossing the field), and you have the worst part, Big Poes.  You have to keep those bugs in your bottle for the last Gold Skulltulla in Kid Link II, and I hope you can sell the milk that comes in one of the bottles to save the time of drinking it.  You also have potential conflict between big poes and blue fire which is why Ice Cavern should come first(to say nothing of the fact that serenade of water is an immensely useful warp song)

Whew, that was a lot, but I think I have a pretty decent route.  A few things are obviously arbitrary and can be rearranged(Shadow or Spirit first is simply a matter of preference for instance).  Yeah, the odds of me missing something seem pretty high when you factor in how much running around this involves.  I'll double check it. Similarly to the child link route, I welcome discussion on these issues.

Speed is the key.
That. Route. Rocks.

I can't believe you got everything wrapped up like that. Cheesy

There are some things:

Quote:
Trade Cojiro away(Mushroom)
Warp to Goron City via Lost Woods
Bomb "Link"(Goron Tunic, gs35)
Backwalk down the mountain to Kakariko
Trade mushroom(Odd Potion)

You know that the mushroom quest is timed, right?

No worries, still... I'm probably able to do it.

Quote:
Water Temple(Longshot, gs77, gs78, gs79, gs80, gs81, Heart Container, Water Medallion)
Shoot the sun(Fire Arrows, gs54)

I'd start a new segment when I enter water temple, then, after getting Fire Arrows and the skulltula, I would go back in and save. I don't wanna redo the water temple if I screw up on the big poes or something. Tongue

Quote:
Trade Broken Goron's Sword for prescription(Prescription)
Enter Death Mountain Crater and get piece of heart you must climb down wall to get(Piece of Heart)

Why not get the other HP in the crater and learn the bolero, then save-warp?

=======================

I think you missed one skulltula, it requires bombs and is in an underground hole in hyrule field, I believe. I would check the GS guide, just to be on the safe side. Same with HP's. Wink

Oh, and I'll probably segment it a little more, but I wont do anything stupid that'll mess up the route.

Now I'm gonna play through the whole thing (the best way to see if everything works), I'll let you know when I'm done.

Later.

Edit: Okay, I played through the first 4 segments (up to Jabu-Jabu). Some things:

-I wont do the extended rupee route. It's faster to grab the secret red rupees (2 of them) on the castle drawbridge.

-I'll get the skulltula in the guardhouse after I've gotten the boomerang. That should speed it up a little.

-When I enter Lake Hylia, it will be morning. Then I'll enter the fishing pond and cathc a 10 pounder and win the HP. Then I'll go outside and play the Sun's Song. I re-enter the fishing pond (night) and then easily catch a 11 punder for the Golden Scale.

-After I exit the fishing pond the second time, I'll grab the skulltula on the small island (as it is night). Then I grab the bottle with letter, then I'll do the stuff in the lab, then I'll warp to Zora's Domain. Sounds good?

-Discovered a neat trick in Zora's Fountain. When the Zora's Sapphire cutscene is over, I'll swim to the place with the tree and get the skulltula. Immidiately afterwards I play the Suns song, that'll warp me back to the place i spwned, right near the log. I climb the log, get the skulltula and exit.
Yes, I know the Mushroom is timed, and I just forgot to make a note of that.  I honestly would have liked to see if I could put more stuff in there, but I knew I was pushing it just taking care of Goron City in that time limit.  If I recall correctly the mushroom time limit is really generous(I.E. you can finish it in about a minute but they give you three) so, assuming it does not run while "Link" is talking(naming yourself a 1 character name might save double time here as you have your name and his name to deal with), I do not think it will be a problem.  I did a similar thing in having you get a Gold Skulltulla while on the eyeball frog timer, but that one is literally right where you are going.  I'm sorry for putting collection work on the route of a timed event and making an easy tasks one of the hardest parts of the run, but, honestly, the only use adult Link has for Goron City is running through it on timed events, and I'm pretty sure you have to stop "Link" before the Fire Temple which removes the other potentially easy time to do this.  It's possible we could buy a Goron Tunic and rely on our long life meter to get us through the Fire Temple, but I'm pretty sure this would be faster.

There is no reason to start a new segment upon entering the water temple as all you do before it is drop off big poes and play a warp song.  If you think you are going to mess up on the water temple a lot and are worried about the repitition, I guess it is okay; it just seems unnessecary.  Re-entering the water temple is somewhat time inefficient, but I can understand your concern there.  It is really easy to mess up the later stuff in that segment.

I am pretty sure there is nowhere to go after getting the heart piece on that wall except back up the wall and then you have to work your way down.  It just seemed faster to do all the stuff that makes you go down into the crater later and to save yourself the slow climb back up the wall.  I have absolutely no idea how you get the piece of heart on the volcano without a bean so that would be good to know.  Death Mountain Crater's stuff is somewhat complex in terms of route planning.  I'm pretty sure you can go down the crater without too much difficulty before you get the Megaton Hammer and that going up is the nasty direction to go pre-hammer, and I assumed when you went down to enter the fire temple you would go down the conventional way and cross the bridge for the bolero.  You might also jump onto the small island on the other side and use the scarecrow to get across and then get the bolero after the Fire Temple(as awkward as that is).  Yeah, the crater could use some discussion as we do go in twice(well, four times, but the times as a kid hardly count).

There are two such skulltullas.  One is outside Gerudo Valley and you get it as you go to clear Gerudo Fortress.  The other is near Kakariko and was gotten as a child after snagging the Ocerina of Time.  I counted Skulltullas, and I counted 97.  I then looked over it and found the three I forgot(all three in the desert area) and made it 100.  I got an unsatisfactory result from counting heart pieces, but I checked the gamefaqs guide and I am almost entirely sure I got them all.

Is that skulltulla on the small island really faster earlier rather than later?  I was under the impression that that is an awfully out of the way Skulltulla that was a closer to the owlwarp(which is a pretty slow owlwarp but still faster than walking) than the fishing place.  I'll have to check the timings on that in terms of swimming across the lake and the like.

The guardhouse skulltulla can be put off indefinately.  I just thought putting it earlier would be convenient for rupee gathering purposes.

That's a nice Zora's Fountain speed trick.  I like it.

Honestly I can't see room for many more segments.  Due to the nature of savewarping, I pretty much segmented everywhere possible.  You could probably get away with a segment after the Fire Temple if you wanted to, but the only thing afterwards in that segment that's particularly hard is the Dampe piece of heart which I figured wouldn't be too bad and that you'd have to make some pretty bad mistakes to lose more time than you would lose by running back into the fire temple and saving and then playing the bolero to get back out(slightly faster if I recall correctly).

Also, a bombchu count is pretty important to this run.  IMO you should be using Bombchus over bombs basically whenever possible as you don't have to wait for Bombchus to go off(hey, saving seconds is saving seconds), but Bombchus come in limited supplies unlike bombs which are virtually infinite(especially considering you start the adult segment of the game with 40 of them).

Can you sell milk like you can sell fish and bugs?  If you can, selling the milk as you run about the market on the market minigames is probably faster than drinking it(with the whole problem of having to drink milk twice to get rid of it).  That bottle is used for big poes and blue fire so leaving the milk in there is not an option.

Also, please tell me I was correct in that Volvagia is considerably faster with the Biggoron Sword.  I was under the impression that against the other bosses is was only a minor time saver as the master sword can kill them all in one cycle, but Volvagia dies twice as fast to the Biggoron.  It probably wouldn't change the route either way, but I was really concerned making it that you would have the Biggoron Sword for Volvagia.

I'll edit the routes later after we see if more stuff comes up.
Speed is the key.

I'll probably segment it like that. It will help me in producing "perfect" segments.

You can crouch stab the rock near the edge, then equip hover boots to get a boosted hoverwalk. It will take you all the way to the heart piece. Then you could just fall down into the bolero cutscene.

Yep, I'm also pretty sure that Volvagia's faster with Biggoron sword. I'll see when I come there in my run through of the route.

Right now I'm at the Spirit Temple (child). I'll continue tomorrow.

I seem to recall Volvagia isn't based on the power of your attacks but rather the number of hits.

It's been awhile so I could be wrong.

So could I. :-/

I'll have to test it.
It's nice to understand the trick to getting that heart piece atop the volcano, and yes, knowing that, getting it and the bolero then is unquestionably considerably faster.  We can then just use the Bolero after getting the Biggoron's Sword for a bit of saved time.

It is nice to see a route without much backtracking sitting there like that; I'm glad that despite the various irritations of 100%(those big poes most notably; I wanted to put off Epona a lot but realized that even doing it that early meant I'd probably be getting the 4th bottle right before Ganon's Castle) things seem to be working out.
Speed is the key.
I couldn't have done it without you, Amazing. Maybe I could, but it would probably take a couple of years, lol. Once I get ot the running part, things'll hopefully go a lot faster.

I'm gonna buy a DVD-recorder for superior quality and the ability to get the videos onto my computer (for uploading). I just hope I get one without playing "lag". Smiley
It's nice to know I've helped.  I was hoping to run this, but I realize that it would have taken me a couple of years to build up the technical skills to do some of the high speed tricks even if I could get a good route down(the fact that I had to spend over an hour to get over the gate at Gerudo Valley and then got caught by the guards without getting in was enough to make me give up).  The nice thing is it looks like we're both going to get what we want in the end and that's a good 100% run of this game.

On a funny note, I've been discussing this with a few real life friends, and they've insisted I show them the final product.  Getting them to honestly want to watch a speed run of this length is a pretty amazing thing.

Okay, I've got a question about the Scarecrow's Song (dunno much about it). How many notes do you have to play for him to accept it? It's 8 if I remember correctly, but I'm not sure. :-/

I can barely wait for that DVD recorder, this will be fun. The only segment I'm really worried about is the one before child Spirit. I wont accept failed cucco jumps, so I will have to practice. Smae with jumpslash into Jabu-Jabu. Haunted wasteland is a piece of cake, though.

Edit: Thanks, Fierce.

Yup, it's eight notes.
And at least one has to be different than the others (means: you cannot make a melody like "A x8". You have to make it at least "Ax7, C-down" or something like that).

Okay. What do you think is easiest to play with the gamecube controller?

I'm thinking something like:

================================
Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down
================================

or possibly (rotating the c-stick):

================================
Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down
================================

or maybe just:

================================
A, A, A, A, A, A, A, Up
================================

Any ideas?

If anything you could play a song from Majora's Mask since you can play those fast. Just add a few notes.  Tongue

Inverted song of time would be my choice.

I'd say on a GC-Controller it would be the best to make something like "A, right, A, right, A, right, A, right" while "right" is resembling the X-Button.

Rotating the C-Stick leads to nothing since in most of the cases it won't recognize some notes.

"A, A, A, A, A, A, A, right" would be good too, since you can make no mistakes with that.

That's true. I think I'll stick with that.
That route is great. Well friggin done Smiley

Only thing though that i'd like to add to it is the longshot trick to get under the ice in zora's domain to warp to lake hylia after getting the frog eyes. That's sure faster than going through lost woods (unless it's a boundary violation).
I think up followed by AX7 would be fastest.  You just tap C-up and then rapidfire A.  Putting the different note first instead of last lets you overpress and it won't matter.

Hmm, I was unaware of that longshot glitch warp.  If that works, it sure would be a lot faster.
He's back!
For Scarecrow song I use X,A,A,A,A,A,A,A. This shouldn't really be an issue, Try not to resort to using the C stick with exeption to ^C. My favourite tunes to play are SoT  and Requiem. I hate the Bolero the most.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Yeah, it's better to have the single note before the seven identical notes; you can't mess up that way.

You know... that's even better. I can just press X, then mash A. Easiest and probably fastest way. Thanks. Smiley

I wont use the c-stick unless I have to. I don't like the heart piece where you have to play several times for the skull kids, I guess I have to practice. Roll Eyes
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I prefer X A X A X A X A, or A X A X A X A .  you can play it really fast, as you're alternating between two buttons.

i used the Song of Healing from MM in both my MQ run and OoT 100% run. i wasn't going for speed so i even added the proper timing
