Nine pages and no one has put their foot down on 100% defined?

Someone stepped on it and I can no longer comprehend it....I geuss I'll have to repost it.

Radix's oot 100% definition:

All hearts and heart pieces, plus the double heart fairy.
All bomb/arrow/sword/magic/scale/deku stick|seed|nut upgrades.
All bottles.
All skulltulas.
All ocarina songs. (can you even get everything else listed and skip one? )
pidgeons
Would it be like LttP 100% where you only need to get the final upgrade of an item? For example, skipping the silver scale to the gold scale?

in OoT you get 'the next one' as a reward, not a specific one
edit: so you need to get 'next one's until you have the best

afaik, edit2: might be confusing this with some other game though :X

edit3: ok, after a quick look into some FAQs im fairly sure i was wrong ;P (but still nog 100%)

-.- you can skip scale and get the gold at the start O_o

What about the cow that you can get in your house?  does that count for 100%?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
No, it shouldn't. It's a pointless waste of time as far as a speedrun is concerned IMO. The rules say, "everything that improves the character's abilities should be collected," and the cow doesn't really do much but give you milk...

Cow is not an item. Lens is an item, it improves abilities (see invisible stuff), even if you know where they are. Plus there's the bird thing you turn in the start of the Shadow temple where you can't see where to turn it to, it helps with that.

The only problem I've had with that 100% definition is 50 of the skulltulas. They're sort of like scans in Metroid Prime.
I'm almost entirely certain the cow wouldn't be required as you're changing the status of the game world, not giving yourself anything.  The cow would actually be more convenient in the temple of time or standing by Lake Hylia; Link's house just seems notable since it's where he's said to live, but really it's just as pointless as any other location.  For that matter,  I don't know what the status on Epona would be in theory(since you don't "have" Epona but rather the ability to summon Epona), but luckily the Gerudo Horseback Minigame decides that for us.

Also, in theory although you would never do it in practice, if you got the Gold Scale and then got the Silver Scale, would it still count as 100%?  It's just a funny thing I was wondering.

The Skulltullas have been confirmed as required, and they are really more substantive in my eyes than scans.  They are actual items that go in your inventory; whether they do anything or not is a detail.

As far as the skulltulas goes, it's not so much that they are useful but that the inventory says when you have all 100.  Of course, MP2 does that, too, with scans...

Still, it just wouldn't be a 100% OoT run without all 100 Skulltulas.

Indeed.  In fact, iirc Radix said something to the effect that you can use the skulltula duplication glitch all you want as long as you still defeat and collect the tokens from all 100 of them evil bugs.

EDIT:
Quote:
Actually, you could do the skulltulla duplication trick if you wanted, such as if there's benefit to getting enough skulltullas to get the giant's wallet or bombchus earlier than you would otherwise.

But you still have to get every skulltulla. It's like being able to get the missile launcher in metroid echoes twice. Just because the game says you have "100%" when you skip some other item doesn't mean you do. The same here with 100 skulltullas.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

THIS IS A COW.  You might think there is something to it.  But in fact, it is just an ordinary cow.

Who's doing the 100% run?

Here's a very easy way to get the heart piece in DMC without the bean. Easy Heart Piece
I'm glad to see this topic is still going, I do look forward to this run.

About how many segments are we lookin at for this?
hello there
I would say 17 or 18 segments - one for each overworld section/dungeon. If we went for 9 segments, I can imagine some segments turning out to be extremely long.

Who says it has to be segmented, anyway? Hahahaha...

I haven't had a chance to read through this whole thread, but can someone tell me whether the Ice Arrows would be collected? And all medallions would be essential, right? Seeing as you'd have to defeat all the bosses to get all of the heart pieces... but if the medallions didn't count, you could just collect the heart piece then warp straight out of the dungeon rather than sitting through the Chamber of Sages cutscene. Of course, you could only do this with Forest/Fire/Water. Unless, of course, the sequence break(s) to get into Shadow/Spirit actually take longer to pull off than the cutscenes (bearing the Nocturne of Shadow cutscene in mind, too).

I might be doing a 100% run.  I'll give the link to my run plan when I'm done it (probably tonight).
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
All medallions are required.  Light is unavoidable, Forest Fire, and Water are required for the Nocturne, and Spirit and Shadow are needed for Light Arrows.

And yes, you are required to get the Nocturne in 100%.
Speed is the key.
I have tried getting Heart Pieces in unintended ways for a long time and I have loads of tricks for getting them. Some ways might not be the fastest, though.... Roll Eyes

Here's two videos I made just now:

Is getting epona part of 100%?

You need Epona to get all the bottles, but if you didn't I don't think you would need to get Epona as, as she doesn't improve your abilities.

You don't need to jump up there to get the heart with the boomerang.  An easier way to get the Zora's River heart piece is with the cucco on the way to Zora's Domain.  I wonder if it's possible to get the heart piece in Desert Collosus with the boomerang, as I found out it's possible to seamwalk up those little hill things.  You can reach it as an adult my hover boosting and doing a bombchu jumpslash from the Silver Gauntlet treasure chest.

I was never able to figure out how to get a Deku Stick on B.  I tried asking Ingo to ride a horse as swordless Link then getting on then off one, but it won't work.  OoT hates me. Sad

How does the Infinite Poes trick work?

The problem is getting on top of that fence. I tried with groundjump but link refuses to grab the ledge. Maybe one of the skilled players can mess around a bit with it see if they can get on it.

Ho yea, and i don't know whether or not this would be violating boudary rules.
Seriously, WTF! Somehow you trick the game into thinking you escape on epona because you leave game area without being in the leaving game area or something? Wow.  Shocked I think this is about as much a boundary violation as the ganon tower skip.
