I've been streaming my attempts every time, that should be proof that it's not TAS because I screw up in different spots every time. I just got 37:59: http://www.twitch.tv/capndrake/c/2772485
Game time is not what I'm aiming for anymore, yet that is a pretty sick time.I really need to work if I AM gonna run at AGDQ. Gotta get sub 45 or even 44 now.
Succesfully achieved sub 43 with 42:57,28 on Extreme with 1 death on the amazon, the game crashed on the credits though so the leaderboard time is 43:51 which annoys me to no ends.
Hey guys, so I'm not sure if this came up yet, but um.....I accidentally ran into a skip that cuts through the entire ship section of the moon. Kinda funny how it returns in this game like the NES version eh?
Take a look. I have no idea what the hell I did, but I managed to walk through the section that you need Gizmo to blow up. This was done on Extreme on the PC version. I have no idea if that makes a difference, but this was bananas regardless haha. Also, I apologize for my overreaction.
I left the video a little longer than normal to see if I did anything special or odd that allowed me to do that. Now mind you, I did have two pieces of Gizmo's suit as well (check the inventory at the end of the video). That might have made the difference. *shrug*
Hey guys, so I'm not sure if this came up yet, but um.....
My only thought after looking at it a few times is that you somehow went far enough away so that the game despawned the block and then when you went back you kind of had some kind of mad no-touching-the-ground thing going that somehow let you clip into the block, it also looks a little as though you land inside the block when you touch the ground for the first time after the pogo madness.... these are all of course wild speculations though
I just got the same skip to work on the PS3 version on Easy. I fooled around for a few minutes and couldn't get through, but after moving off screen from the green blockade, I did small pogos on the way back similar to the video and once I jumped over I was able to walk through the right side like tminator did. I'm going to mess around with it a little more to make sure it's consistent.
Yeah, I've heard of this, but I couldn't figure it out after messing with it. Time to go to the lab!
Edit: Well, I just got it. And I'm not sure why! Edit 2: Again! Seems like it might be very position based. Like it might try to load an enemy in the block's place.
Alright I think I got it, as I was able to get it 7 times since my last post. My first few attempts took forever, but now I've gotten it relatively quickly. I think the key to the whole thing is that last red alien as well as walking off frame from the door initially. If done correctly, you can walk (or pogo) through either side of the wall.
Get the wall on screen, and then pogo back towards the green alien with the wall not on the screen. If you kill the alien and maintain the pogo on the way back, you should go right through. I think you need to kill the alien either right before the frame where the wall in back in view or as it's coming into view. That will make the wall act as if it is not there and you can go through either side.
I'm going to keep doing it to see if there is maybe something else I'm missing, but my past few attempts have finished with the skip on my first try.
I've came to the same findings as Jaykay. Basically walk till the wall is in full view, then go back and kill the last red alien with a pogo, maintain that pogo till the wall is in full view again, walk through either side of the wall. Tested on PS3 Easy mode.
Yeah this trick is pretty easy now that it seems like we figured it out. I'm still having too many stupid deaths and things early on, but this already saved over 3 minutes off my best time. Hoping tomorrow I can put in more work.
Also it's pretty hilarious that the first major skip found is the exact place the NES version had one.
It's easier than we thought! Better tutorial video I just made:
Edit: It's also theoretically possible to despawn the blocks that block the chain that you usually destroy with the second boulder in African Mines, but you have to individually despawn at least 4 specific blocks to do it, and they're very finicky and like to respawn. I doubt it would be a time saver.
Edit 2: Aaaaand Proof of Concept video of previous edit, plus a little bonus that blew my mind when it happened. Did we just break the game?
Yeah, seems like there's no getting by without getting the next boulder to spawn. Would have been amazing if it was possible to warp straight to the boss.
With a bit of practice it looks very possible to do the Mines skip quickly, you just need to know the positioning to despawn certain blocks.
If you use the walk in wall, and go right while pogoing, you end up right beneath the boulder. go left and you can continue. If done relatively well this could save up to 20 seconds I think.
It might be a good idea to start attempts on the Mines, untill you get a good skip.
