I just did a run with a ~15 second boulder skip. I definitely think it can be done in under 10 seconds by getting the first one to despawn when you kill the slug (I managed to do it a few times after the run).

This is definitely harder on console. The points of reference George gave don't work. It might be my TV or the cosmetic differences in game. I gotta find my own reference points to make this more consistent. :|

I feel the best way to get it down is to practice it yourself. I tried using both reference points posted in this thread and they didn't really work for me until I just practiced and made my own. And I'm using the Steam version of the game as well.

Anyway, here's the video of my run this morning when I had 1st for the few hours before Capndrake swooped back in. You can see just how insane my RNG was which I'll probably never get again. Even the Amazon boss had great RNG.

Yeah. Once we all get these tricks and routes down. Good runs will all come down to boss RNG. Here's what I've found:

Amazon - During his attack phase, you want him to stay grounded. If he leaps immediately from entering the arena, then that's doable, but if he jumps late, you either have to wait or damage yourself as well. When the walls move, you want the floor or ceiling to move all at once. This is the fastest. The floor or ceiling scaling is bad, it wastes time.
Transylvania - For the first fire cycle, you want her to shoot horizontally twice. The second fire cycle is give or take. The third however, I believe vertically is faster as it cycles quicker when she's near death. Mirror phase is obvious. Lower is better.
African Mine - Not much RNG here. Just hope he uses the Terra Firmie roll twice in the beginning. The rockslide speeds up when near death.
Himalayas - The plane fight is the biggest roll of the dice in the game. Optimally, you want Bomb-Beagle-Bomb-Beagle until the end. Each Beagle costs about 5 seconds. All you can hope for the Yeti is that she doesn't do a straight up slam before she smashes the outer ice cubes.
Moon - During its teleport phase, hope it spawns low. Higher spawn points (ie the ones above the side platforms) use up more time.
Vesuvius - You want Dragon. Giant is ok, just a tad slower. Bat is awful, and can cost 5 seconds per slam.

And can I get a confirmation that you can end Dracula's Giant phase early by pogoing on his beak somehow?

Yeah, I think it was first discovered by Capndrake. Ever since I've been doing it, he only bites down thrice rather than the normal amount (which I don't remember anymore).

It's 5. But that would actually make Giant fastest now. Wasn't there a way to manipulate what he transforms into?

And I think I found my consistent points now. Just gotta work on em and make sure I hit them in a real run. Tongue
With the bat phase, if you are standing under the safe spot as it forms, the bats will lower almost immediately. So the best course of action is to predict where the safe spot will spawn. Also, for anyone who didn't already know, the safe spot will always spawn on the opposite half of the screen from where it was before.
Hi guys! Im going to start running this too, first playthrough on easy after completing expert was 45:23  in game time. That run was slow, but now im going to practice all the stages one by one and learning the clitches. That moon clitch was really easy but the boulder skip is kinda painfull. Gotta train some more Tongue

PS: running on pc
For Fun! For GLORY!!
By the sound of it, everyone but KingBroly and I are running this on PC. Guess we'll always be cursed with loading times. :|
Actually, if you can get on top of Dracula Duck's beak in the yellow phase before he attacks a single time, he'll stop after 2 attacks.
That's interesting.  Not very hard to do, either since he always spawns in the middle.
Theres a few tricks i have used that i didnt see on this thread or Capndrakes run.

First is in himalayas when you go through those ice cubes with bubba. You can pogo through some of the cubes so bubba goes faster to the next one.

Others are at the last boss. When dracula teleports near to you (and down, not after 3 hits) the image comes a little before than the hit box, so you can pogo jump to the middle of him and hit him before he sends the bat.
When dracula has taken those 3 hits you can skip the second bat by timing the jump on the first bat so that the bat is as high as it can be. These only save a few seconds but its still something.

Here is video demonstration. Sorry about the audio, had my xsplit record my mic instead of the game voice :F

Great job on your findings! I don't know why I never thought to pogo those ice cubes.

I knew the ice cubes bit. But I never knew to early hit Dracula. Now if I can only get a decent run in to try that. Tongue

To anybody interested, these are the current splits for the fastest known time (Capndrake's run).

Time was started on difficulty selection, splits were hit on the final hit of each boss (Not when you receive the item or "Stage Clear"), and the final split was hit on the final platform.

This is what I've been running against currently.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Wait, now we're deciding when to split? I've always done it when it said 'Stage Clear'. Does it matter? It's not like we're tracking ILs...are we?

BTW, I'm getting my streaming equipment, hopefully tomorrow. So expect live runs. :3

Stumbled across this Extreme run on Twitch. 41:00 real time, 38:37 in game time. He didn't use the skips, so this time is definitely improvable.

About timing. Because the game only keeps track of your fastest universal playthrough, we can't really use the game's timer for every category. So I'd suggest all SDA runs be in real time.

And because of the version differences, I believe this is a case where loading times would be subtracted from the end time to make it fair across the board. I believe this is SDA's process with situations like this. Because of that, and this is more personal, but I'd start wsplit at gain of control because the load time after skipping the first cutscene would be gone anyway.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Thank you for agreeing with me on that point Satoryu. But that would be hard to track timewise on a split. We'd need to time all load times together. I don't have the patience for that. X3
Visually Appealing
Yeah, of course you wouldn't do that on a live recording. I'm just saying it could be done once the run is submitted.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
True. First I need a run that is halfway decent.
Maybe I'll get it tomorrow. X3

No, no. Apologies. I was just letting everybody know where I split up Capn's run so if they wanted to compare themselves timewise, they could.

Individual Levels can be ran, because after you beat the game you can replay any level on any difficulty except Extreme.

And I still have no updated runs cuz I've been busy.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I have no updated runs for a couple reasons. One, because all my runs have been garbage, and two I'm focusing on expanding my library.
Another reason to stop using game time: The game doesn't count against you if you exit a level. Sure this is great if someone wants to get the best time on the leaderboard by grinding out the best possible IL times including getting lucky RNG, but it's another reason we can't really depend on game time.
I'm sort of a lurker here. I'm really interested in this game, but mostly for my own sake - I want to check if I can measure with the big game geniuses for once.

I also recognize the name "Radman" on the leaderboard on my Wii U.

I'm looking forward to a battle between us. I got 36:21 in game time yesterday (~40:35 real time) and finally got into first place on that leaderboard, which is now second place. I believe I can improve this by approximately 30-35 seconds.

I'll probably just stick with this game for a week or so more. Unfortunately I don't have the dedication some guys here have. I really admire you all for that. You are all just great!
