My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yes, we have rules and guidelines this year. Most of these rules were unwritten rules last year, but it never hurts to make sure the rules are known. Attached to this post is the 4-H Center Code of Conduct form. Most of it should be obvious by now, but give the form a look-see just in case. Ignore the part about no organized activities past 11 pm, I already cleared that with the center.

General

-The Center requires shirt and shoes at all times. We require pants, especially since Frezy_Man can't come to the marathon. Sad

-For the sake of everyone else, shower regularly*. Also, the center has coin laundry, so if your clothes are getting a little old, don't hesitate spending a couple of dollars to keep them fresh.

If you're really bad about showering, then the Emptyeye clause will kick in:  "If Mike/Breakdown/Flip decide you smell, they have the right to Febreze you; if you refuse, they have the right to tell you to get out and don't come back until you take a damn shower."

-Remember, if the center can't see the food, there isn't any. Wink

-Don't break the no-alcohol rule. Seriously, just don't. You're not the only one in trouble if you're caught, we all get into trouble.

Commentary

-Our stream is pg-13. You can occasionally swear, but don't do an f-bomb rant.

-The chat is not a teleprompter. Do not say everything that is mentioned in the chat. Not only is it impossible to do, your commentary will be poor as a result.

-On a similar note, in-game text is not a script. Not every line on screen needs to be spoken out loud. However, I give Essentia a voice acting pass because her Cranky Kong is too cute.

-Do not plan surprises. Surprises are only surprising if they surprise everyone. Planning a surprise annoys people and comes off as contrived. The one exception is prizes. Grin

-Do not speak ill of the charity, even if you don't agree with what they do 100%. PCF is a good charity and have gone out of their way to support us; I'd like to return the favor.

-You also shouldn't put down other sites and charity groups, it's petty and makes us look bad.

-The same thing goes for forum members. If you have a beef with someone, keep it off-stream.

-Respect Serious Time. It shouldn't happen often, but there are going to be moments when people need to focus, and if they want everyone to be quiet, then BE QUIET. (commentators mentioning donation comments can go on as normal).

-If you're responding to someone in the chat - particularly if it's for something important like donations or prizes - please mention who actually made the comment. None of this "someone says" stuff we had going on for most of last year.

-No responding to anyone whose name starts with "J" and ends with "H10". Tongue This will be pretty obvious to most people not to feed troll behavior in general, but if we have a few known trollers then just flat out ignoring them is the best way to handle them.

-Do not try to add or remove games without Mike's permission. We are running on a schedule, and I would like to follow it.

-Challenges are generally permitted, but only if they're requested by someone in the chat. If a challenge is going to make us go over the allotted time in the schedule by 2+ minutes, then ask Mike, Breakdown, or Flip about it.

-If you break the above rules too often or disrupt the commentary too much, we (Mike, Breakdown, and Flip) will pull you from commentary at our discretion.

-Most importantly, have fun! One of the reasons why the last marathon was so great is because the atmosphere was casual, and we all relaxed and had fun.

I will continue to push for the "If Mike/Breakdown/Flip decide you smell, they have the right to Febreze you; if you refuse, they have the right to tell you to get out and don't come back until you take a damn shower" rule. Tongue

But then they'll decide I smell just so they can spray with my Febreeze, regardless of how I actually smell in reality.  Haha.

Either way, rose petals or sunshine fresh, PJ?

Rose petals please.
I want off the ride....
i donno I kinda feel this rule is obvious but i really think it should be stated anyway...

1. Don't insult / piss off / etc the runner.

While serious time is easy to see (esp on Mister uyama), sometimes just the smallest of things that irk a runner being done in the background can be distracting. Also commenting on the play (chat or in-house) in a horrible way is just also bad. ... but alas i could just be paranoid.

I would hope we'd all have respect for each other.  We are a bunch of adults, after all.  Well, except Tiki, but he's not going.

I'd like to think no one will be actively trying to piss off any of the players, but I could see it happening without any malice behind it.  Little things like laughing at a mistake or pointing out a trick that could've been done could piss of the runner without the responsible party really meaning to.  Really, this can't be prevented completely without shutting down commentary completely, and I hope all runners will come into this thing with a bit of the thick skin and not be overly sensitive about the slightest of slights, but to those doing commentary, I think the rule could be summed up very nicely as such:

You are always on the side of the runner.

Sounds fair to me. I have to admit I do need lower speaking volume in order to concentrate and play my best. I mean, mainly I just don't want excessive yapping and carrying on during very difficult/precision-based parts of Ocarina of Time ;). A slip-up in a few key spots can waste lots and lots of time. I've never played in front of many people so I'm still unsure how my nerves will be :P.

The first time somebody says this I will fully support Vorpal if he ends up throwing a shoe at you.
Exoray
No matter how hard we try, I don't think we can (or should) keep friendly teases away completely. If there's someone that knows that he/she absolutely does not want to hear stuff like that, I think said person should make that clear from the beginning.
I guess that one could be considered to fall into the guideline category rather than the rule category.
#Casual
I might be prone to saying "trick watch", so I'll have o keep my tongue. :p

To reiterate some things:

-don't say what tricks are not being used, even someone in the chat asks
-talking priority is runner, THEN commenter. Don't  step over the runner when he/she wants to say something.

What's up with this one? I can see many cases where people who knows a bit about running the game will probably ask "are you going to try X?" or something like that. I don't think qustions like that should be flat out ignored.

Emptyeye: Added your clause to the rules.

Trekhaak: Sure! Let's make the event international!

Don't piss off the runner, etc.: I don't think this was much of a concern last year, except maybe for serious time. I don't think we need to be too sensitive about this, as long as if we're not outright insulting the runner.

Mentioning tricks that aren't in the run: While we shouldn't go over an exhaustive list of what's not going to be used in the run, we can definitely answer whether a certain trick is going to be used in a run or not.

Is there going to be a schedule or anything like that for stuff like commentating, chat moderation, donation tracking, updating Twitter/Facebook, etc?  Since I'm not playing any games, I'd love to help out with whatever behind-the-scenes work that I can.

What Uyama said, mooh.  Everything in balance...
We all scream for Eyes Cream
If Uyama plays as X during X4, it's mandatory to throw a boot in front of him so he doesn't forget the boots. As other reminders, throw body armor and a fake arm so he doesn't forget the Armor and Buster parts, and an empty bottle for Heart Tanks/Sub Tanks/EX Tanks Tongue

All joking aside, only thing I think is missing is what tjp said about talking priority. It's one of the few things I disliked about watching last year's marathon videos since  there were a few times where the runner was trying to talk but someone in the background was talking over them. Then again, that might of been from the commentary webcam and the amount of people that were sometimes in the room, so it's possible that this might not be a problem since Mike got a mic for this purpose.
