What, you too? We need to get an epic match going.

Quote from Axel Ryman:
Xaldin battle: Beat it, enough said.

Stopped after the Xaldin battle. I made a save before it so I could practice facing Xaldin blindfolded. So far it's simple as I won on my first two attempts(The only two I've done so far). I'll be practicing it blindfolded a bit more though if the idea is approved for using it for Donations.

What?
Xaldin?
blindfolded?
You're crazy, that's the only boss where I died in the game.  But seeing as you've won twice already, the battle must be easy when you can see Tongue

It's mostly hearing that helps. All I gotta do is listen to the sounds he makes when he goes to attack and I'll know what he does...well mostly. I get confused on one of his attacks cause I rarely ever see it. Everything else though is obvious. Tongue

My feelings on The Demon Rush
BTW: For anyone who hasn't been doing so already START PRACTICING, and stream and/or post your progress here. Breakdown and I haven't been stressing practice as much because we just assume everyone will do so like last year, but it needs to be stressed. If you don't practice for your game, it makes you look bad, and I don't think anyone wants to humiliate themselves.

The above message goes double for you, Vorpalbum. Two week warrior might cut it for SM again, but not for Rocket Knight. Tongue

Oh yeah, I've been practicing some myself.

Mega Man X4: I've been practicing this some, and I can definitely play as X or Zero depending on donations. I still need to practice any% for X so I can be more consistent at the Sigma fight, but aside from that, this game shouldn't be too hard as long as if I practice some more.

Metal Slug 3: I pretty much spent the week grinding this out, and I don't know if I can do this deathless at the marathon, but it should be a 1cc or 2cc. The two trouble spots are the fourth boss (orange pinwheel attack) and the area swarming with crawler robots (it's really easy to get hit by an explosion). The biggest problem is if I die in the final stage, the cocoon battle is going to be a LOT longer.

Streets of Rage 2: Been playing this with Josh on his stream recently. We're getting better and we've made our marathon estimate, but we still have a lot of room to improve.

Final Fight: I just started practicing this yesterday. The Cody infinite isn't too tough to do, and the game isn't too tough except for a couple of enemies (damn knife guys), but the problem is if you screw up, you're swarmed by 8 guys and you die real fast.

I need to get on Sands of Time practice again, and see what I can do. I'll try out the ps2 version and see if it doesn't freeze in the spot the GC version freezes at frequently (right outside of the birdcage).
I want off the ride....
Well cause I haven't posted since the start...

FF4 - Everything about the two versions i need to know to do the game "quickly" is known. Just I can't find a reliable way to get through Zeromus in one try... since he is practically 100% luck. Unless there are more things to learn... (Reason: Zeromus STORES turns. I've had a lot of close calls on 'one shots' but he does stupid things like stores enough turns to Big Bang, Black Hole, Big Bang before I can do anything). I keep practicing and stream it. I have notes written up for my knowledge that will also be passed to whoever is nearby to help me make sure I don't screw up anything. Namingway spots have to written in (version based) but thats not a real problem.

RE5 - While I haven't practiced with carc, i've gone over what we'd need to do with the AI (which is a joke). I just stay fresh on the route... so we can do more practice whenever he gets down here.

RCR - Uhh... i haven't practiced this much and am going to get to more of it soon.

SoTN - I apparently have been in a bad stupor with SoTN and need to get out of it. Been doing "ok" but somehow dying more than I should in attempts. Either I am getting faster and not able to react as well, or something else is happening. But i'm also practicing "dirty tricks". Bleh bleh bleh~
Talk to the Hand
Okay, fair's fair.

Battletoads: The last attempt didn't go so well and I haven't touched it since. I'll pick it back up before the marathon, don't worry. It's just that FF is my priority right now.

Final Fight: Working to get better at it, and I can see progress in my times if not in my number of credits used (Generally 3-4 continues per game). My MIKE HAGGAR is currently much better than my Guy play, mainly because you have two different basic strategies for them once you get enemies grouped (MIKE HAGGAR can basically punch-punch-suplex the entire group an enemy at a time; Guy's lack of range/invincibility frames means he'll generally get tagged by an Andore after he throws an enemy if he tries the same strategy. Solution: infinite combo instead.). And what Mike says is correct; once you get hit once and get surrounded, it's really hard to get out of it without a death, even with special attacks. This is especially true in the later levels.

Alright, so after a break for over 3 weeks due to lack of motivation I've started working out again mainly by lifting weights. Did a shoulder/biceps/triceps session yesterday and will head right onto a stomach/legs session today. I'm feeling a little stiff today but that's expected after such a long break. At the moment I can not live up to the expectations as Frezy's replacement, but I will hopefully be in shape right in time for the marathon.
I had been practicing sporadically in the past several months but I'm really going into overtime now. I'm getting my stream viewing techniques down to a fine art - refreshing at the first sign of choppiness, managing IRC chat with the channel-popup window, and working on keeping concentration up even through heavy background distraction. I'll keep you guys posted with my progress!
You got a deletion wish?
Been practicing Thexder Neo, my best level times have recently broken 8 mins. (in-game timer).  The biggest nuisance is the boss not behaving himself.

You better be on top of your game, cyghfer!  I don't plan on making it easy for you to watch the stream.

In other news, my Lagoon competency is at an all-time high.  I should be in good shape in case someone donates $5000 for it to be thrown into the lineup.
Willing to teach you the impossible
Double Dragon - Still running threw that rather fast. I get sub 12 min every time.

Super C - Still having my way with this game as well.

Contra - I am not all too confident in this game just yet. I am having troubles in some areas. This game is more luck based than the rest I have to play.

MMX2 - Day 1 was horrid. Day 2 was the exact same. Day 3 is like i never stopped playing the game. I am still doing a bunch of things as i did in low%, but i am trying to break my habits.
welcome to the machine
The short-charge sucks.

Bah.

I'm starting to wonder if I just don't "get" how to play as Guy. Sad Had my worst game in awhile in terms of credits used, and the time wasn't too hot either.
Not a walrus
Metal Storm: I haven't played this game very much since last summer when I did the run that's on the site. I'm still pretty good at most of it but anything that requires precise timing has pretty much fallen out of my fingers so I'm going to need to hammer at that to get it up to marathon level. Mostly level 5, natch.

Blaster Master: I could do this game in my sleep but I'll be playing it over break. 17 credit hours keeps me busy most of the semester. Boy was that a mistake.

Prince of Persia: Bonus stream anyone?
Willing to teach you the impossible
I am feeling better about X2 now. It is nothing special but I have it down to about the 40 minute mark. I am sure I can cut some more time out, but my real issue is that I am using a bunch of my low% strats still. I have just been doing them so much. But really, the 40 min mark Is a good goal for me at the marathon. Any thoughts?

Super C and Double Dragon are going really smooth.

Contra... I still have plenty of time to practice, but its looking ugly atm.
I want off the ride....
Feasel and I just got through some practice of RCR. Thanks yama the Client was only ~2 frames of lag, and it worked just fine.

Kicked a lot of a, and figured things out for 2p.
1. We need to kill Benny and Clyde at least once for Dragon Feet Money (2p needs it too ya know?)
2. We can kill dragon twins easily. Its just a matter of getting on either side and letting our feet do the talking.
3. We need to work on hitting people when they are down with thrown objects (my bad. i kept hitting feasel, but in retort. He was kicking me more often).
4. Movement errors mostly sorted out.

will practice again next weekend.
Everything's better with Magitek
I've been working on Chrono Trigger quite a bit lately.  I think I've got my route all figured out now; I'll be mostly following the Ultima Garden 100% run (I hope it's still okay if I do 100%) with a few small changes to make some of the boss fights more reliable.  I find it kind of interesting that the hardest bosses in this run are the second (Dragon Tank) and the fifth (Heckran), but I should be fine if I fight those battles more defensively.  I finished a test run yesterday that was far from perfect (I really need to practice avoiding enemy encounters) and I was only 7 minutes behind the current 100% run.  With more practice, I feel pretty confident I'll be able to beat the current SDA record.

(BTW, I don't understand why the current 100% run's final time is 6:31.  The in-game time at the final save is 6:06 and it takes about 8 minutes to kill Lavos, so it seems like the final time should be around 6:15.  Could someone explain this?)
We all scream for Eyes Cream
I think there's more time cause you still can control Crono afterwards before starting the ending. Just remember to do some saves during the attempt Essentia, especially if the viewers request something like Freddy suplexing the train.
Everything's better with Magitek
Well, this is what it says on the CT page:
Quote:
Timing note: Full game runs use the game's timer at its last seen time, plus remaining real time. New Game + runs use real time under standard timing rule from start of control. End point is the appearance of the final damage number on Lavos.

So it looks like timing should end right when you defeat Lavos.  Even if you did add in the time until you lose control during the ending, that would give a final time of 6:23.  And in the worst case, if you included the entire ending in the timing, you'd only get 6:28.  I'm so confused.

But yeah, I'll definitely be saving frequently during the run.  Oh, and I forgot to mention in my last post that that test run was on the PS1 version, which is much slower than the SNES version.  So I should definitely be able to get a faster time.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I'm not sure how the run was timed, Essentia, because Radix timed it. I know I stopped timing for Inichi's run when he killed Lavos.
Exoray
Well, been streaming some last couple o days.
Aladdin on Practice should be all cake, I'm pretty used to the faster NTSC version now and I should be able to breeze through it.
Aladdin on Difficult still needs more work. Did some testing yesterday and I still need to work out health management and new stop-run timing to adapt to the guards double health. If I die in the the sultan's palace or jafars palace, I'd be low on apples which will cause a long jafar fight.

Earthworm Jim is going ok. I haven't played the last couple of levels at all for the last couple of years since my previous practice runs only were for the first half of the game. People watching my stream today saw me fail quite a lot as I tried to blind run the last 3 levels pretty much being surprised by every enemy position Smiley
Also I discovered my TV has some auto-brightness it likes to kick in during Andy Asteroid stages which basically makes the asteroids difficult to spot in time due to being too dark. But hey, If I learn how to play the levels without seeing them I should be fine for the actual marathon right? =)
We all scream for Eyes Cream
My latest KH2 attempt got to the final save point at about 4:41 with the final time being 4:58. Decided to load up my save before the 1000 Heartless battle with a time of 2:57.

1000 Heartless Battle: Mostly used the Sparkle Ray Reaction Command as it is the fastest method of killing. Missed a few times as well as do a few Rising Suns.

Beast's Castle trip: Went to the Parlor immediately after being put in so I can warp there later. During the forced fight I used Knocksmash and killed all the Nobodies easily. Valor to Beast for Rumbling Rose, then warp to Land of Dragons.

Land of Dragons Revisit: Used Valor to climb to the top of the mountain and defeated the Mysterious Man/Riku a bit easily, however I should of used Trinity during the fight, but forgot to. Transformed back into Valor form and ran down the mountain to the square. Once the forced battle started I reverted and used Trinity. A few Heartless were alive so I finished with 2 combos. Got enough Drive for another Valor but I saved it. Sniper Nobodies went down easily. Was going to use Valor but somewhat forgot, but it was good cause it helped for Storm Rider. Storm Rider went well but the end when he's on the ground firing his laser I kept targeting one of the things on his back, so the ending took a while. Used Valor during the fight when it was near death, half expecting Anti-Form, but got lucky. Saved in the throne room before the fight with a time of 3:11.

Beast's Castle Revisit: Saved in the Parlor as soon as I arrived for a time of 3:15. Fought the Nobodies before Xaldin's fight and used Valor Form. Didn't get Anti-Form(Surprisingly) so I managed to beat them quite quickly. Xaldin fight went well but he used his Wind of Despair 3 times. After his 3rd time, I managed to kill him. My strategy for if he uses it would be to use Knocksmash during his Wind of Despair attack so I can start hitting him with Cosmo Boost after he becomes vulnerable again. This will help take his last bit of health down. I'll most likely do this after his first two of Wind of Despairs since after the first he always does it a 2nd time immediately after, or 80% of the time at least.

Port Royal Revisit: Used Anti-Form in the first forced fight against the pirates. Was a bit shocked but glad at the same time since I needed to get it soon. Unfortunately this had me spend 5 seconds juggling a freaking bomb with Anti-Forms long combo(Was funny though). Managed to kill in Anti-Form but I have 0 drive for the Reaper fight, however I wasn't planning on using Drives there. During the fight I just used Knocksmash and combos before getting enough Drive to use Valor after the battle. Small problem with the coins since I didn't kill the Gambler's in 1 combo as I had Oathkeeper instead of the Hero's Crest Keyblade on. I made note to not do that next time. Reaper 2 battle went fine though besides a few minor mishaps with coin collecting.

Halloween Town 1: Went to the lab and saved here. Time was 3:32. Battle with the Heartless could of been better, then the second set outside of Santa's house went okay, but I hate those jack-in-the-boxes. Prison Keeper went well. Got Anti-Form again but near the end of the battle, and it helped a lot since if I didn't get it I would of had trouble hitting the boss, though I could just revert and do another Knocksmash. Oogie Boogie had a small mixup with the Move reactions. but the battle went well. Saved after being sent outside the world at a time of 3:46

Halloween Town 2: Lock, Shock, and Barrel fight went extremely well. Got them with Magnera(Used a 2nd just in case), then hit with Whirly-Goof. Present gathering however wasn't as good as I had to kill all the Heartless just to get the 4 presents. Present Shooting minigame went well. Failed Experiment went well as I used Whirly Goof and killed it easily.

Agrabah Revisit: Camera screwed up on the carpet ride to finding Jafar's Shadow. Everything else went well. I used Magnera a bit in the force fights as it's easier this way, but I had some trouble on top of the tower. The 3 orbs puzzle went a lot better than normal. Normally I'm surrounded by enemies when doing the Blizzard Puzzle, so I used Magnera before I was near it and had none near me. Had enemies near me for the Thunder one but I got it in one shot. Saved in the tower with a time of 3:59. Jafar fight went perfect. Won on my 2nd cycle. Saved after during the Twilight Town gummi ship mission with a time of 4:10

Twilight Town Revisit: The Nobody battle outside the manor felt slow and I only had 2 drive gauges at the end of it. It feels so but it went well so I'm not sure why it feels like that. Used a Drive Recovery I picked up in Space Paranoids as a backup to use Valor form for movement. The Nobody fight with Axel also felt slow and I think needs to be better since most of the time I was only near 1 Nobody. They didn't seem to wanna spawn near me.

The World That Never Was - Pre-Xigbar to Xigbar: Ran with Valor to the next save point. Went back to the previous map to use Drives till I got either Anti-Form or Final Form. Got Anti so I continued on. Got 12 Ethers and my Elixir. Saved for a time of 4:20. Path to Xigbar went fine, got Cosmic Belt and equipped it, then started the fight. Mostly spammed Knocksmash but it went well. Killed Xigbar shortly after he used his special attack for the first time. I used Rumbling Rose for Xigbar since Decisive Pumpkin is more for Ground Combos, but I might use Hero's Crest and see if there's a difference.

TWTNW - Post Xigbar to Saix: Got Final Form in the room after Xigbar. Was glad cause this means I can use Drives in the next few fights. At the same time, Final Form, even with it's short duration, is much more powerful than Valor form. Went straight to Luxord. Luxord went well but I do have to be careful since he has a combo that's near instant death if it hits me dead on. If it hits me twice, I am dead. Saix fight went well though I forgot Whirly Goof for this fight, however even without it I did very well. Final Form did a helluva good job here and I killed him on the second cycle. Didn't have enough Drive points to use a Drive form so I used my High Drive Recovery from the Port Royal revisit and transform before leaving the Proof of Existence room. Got full Drive thanks to Riku joining the party.

TWTNW - Post Saix to Xemnas 1: Accidentally used Master form instead of Final Form like an idiot so I lost about 30 seconds to minute trying to get up to Xemnas since it is slower than both Valor and Final Form. Xemnas one went well though I need to be faster when doing Explosion since a few times he teleported as I started the 2nd one. I got the early start combo though and might be able to get it consistently. Preventing him from going to the Skyscraper a 2nd time might not happen but if he's near death it's fine since I can just Trinity him. Saved after with a time of 4:37.

TWTNW - Final Battles Part 1: Part 1 as I did this twice. The first time I forgot to equip Elixirs but it was fine since I didn't run out of Ethers. The Elixirs are crucial however. For the first time, I used Magnega on the enemies to destroy the 2 reactors. Once I got inside, I combo'd the main reactor till Nobodies appeared. Then used Knocksmash to kill off most of them then transformed into Final Form, using Magnega to help gather up enemies and kill them as well as combo the reactor when it's shield went down. After I used Knocksmash again on the rest of the nobodies, then combo'd them to death. Got another 5 Drive bars from the enemies as well as hitting the core while my MP recharges. Xemnas 2 I started with a combo into Whirly Goof, then transformed into Final after another combo. I attacked till I lost the Drive and did another Whirly Goof to help finish the battle. This part took about 5 minutes.

Next one is mostly on-rails but it went fine and took another 5 minutes. Xemnas 3 went well. Battle ended in 3 minutes. The Final Xemnas fight needed a bit of work however it is mostly because of the lack of Elixirs. Battle did go fast though since I spammed Trinity. I didn't skip the Riku part of the battle unfortunately. This battle took about 5 minutes, totaling the final battle at 18 minutes. Now for Part 2 of this.

Final Battles Part 2: Ok the better version of these fights. First part of Xemnas 2 went the same only I used Final Form during the 2nd round of Nobodies in the core, so I got to focus Final Form's strength as well as a Knocksmash on the Nobodies. The actual Xemnas 2 fight went better and I finished the fight on the 2nd Whirly Goof. The part after was a little bit faster after I thought of a way to get more Energy. 3rd fight went well. Times for them were about the same but this attempt was a few seconds faster. Then came the final battle.

Final Xemnas Part 2: I died. After the cutscene ended, I used Trinity to try and hit Xemnas and get in some extra damage. Bad idea, since while on the ground, Xemnas appeared and did his most powerful combo, taking me from Full to Death easily. Lost about 20 seconds.

Final Xemnas Part 3: Went better. During the beginning part with the reversals, a few times the Xemnas attacking you is a clone and has no Health, so it's useless to hit. At times I used Reflect when I knew the real Xemnas would hit me, and I damaged him. A few Trinity Spams and I was dodging lasers. I then managed to have Xemnas COMPLETELY skip the Riku part of the phase, including the "Can you spare a Heart" part of it. Got to the final part and won. Total time for these was about 17 minutes and 15 seconds.

With a number of strategies I can probably beat my SS time at the marathon.
gamelogs.org
been going through uncharted 2 chapter by chapter to try and get a better estimate of how long it'll take. so far it's looking like 3 hours is still a good bet. gonna hopefully do a lot more over break.
I'm really not sure if this belongs here or in Tigger's run topic, but I wanted to note that Pandora Tomorrow has hit kind of a brick wall. I can't seem to get any lower than 1:19, which is really bugging me. If I could manage a no-restart run somehow (average is 8-10, unfortunately), I think the time would end up at around 1:12 instead.

That said, I uploaded videos (with some bad execution!) of the route I use so that maybe someone can see where I'm going wrong. Or someone can just watch them out of sheer boredom. Whatever works.

Stages: 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 3, 4/5, 6/7/8.
