I don't use save stats or frame advance. I play like it would be on a console. however, PJ64 is like a console, so I don't understand why SDA don't accept runs played on it. Computer games are also recorded with Fraps
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
3 reasons

1) Emulation, especially N64 emulation, is not perfect.  Your quality depends on the graphics plugin, but there are still some noticable differences.
2) ROMs have rather questionable legal status, so SDA prefers not to get into them.
3) Even if we asked for a recording of you playing it, you could still circumvent it by playing a m64 while pretending to play.  These sorts of shenanigans can get very complicated and are difficult to spot.

It's simply easier to require console only.  Incidentally, do you have a GCN or Wii?  If so, a copy of Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition could solve your problem.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
this run could serve the same purpose as groobo's OoT run. a model for future runners to show what they should use in their uns.
Catchin' them all
Yeah, too bad it's gonna be hard to find someone better at supersliding then MrGrunz. Tongue

I just tried it a bit again and darn, it's hard. ;_; Maybe I should study it a bit first.
Merry Chrismas =)
My run will be something like Runnerguy's OoT run. It's the WR, but it's not on SDA.

what do you mean with copy? can you make it more clearly for me, because I don't really understand, what you want to tell me.

What Petrie meant is that there is an official version of OoT available for GameCube (and by backwards compatibility, for the Wii) that can be purchased.  So, even if you don't have an N64 console, if you have a GameCube or Wii you can still make an official run by purchasing that copy of the game.

I have a gamecube and I have a N64 + OoT, MQ and MM, but I have no DVD recorder or Capture Card.
however, I have no skill on a real console. I'm playing with a PS2-controller. The normal controllers are completely different to it, so I'm a noob without my PS2 controller.

Can somebody tell me what I need to be able to record with a TV Capture Card?

Supersliding is easy as hell for me.  I rarely miss a superslide.  Its a lot easier in MM than OoT (not that its hard in OoT, at least not for me).  I can do all the superslides MrGrunz in the goron mask segment plus the ice slide he didn't do.  I didn't think superslides were hard for many other people.  Maybe I'll consider doing an any% when/if I get a dvd recorder.

@MrGrunz - the first video should help since it only uses 2 explosives.  I didn't see many things notable in the second exept the SB you showed in the first vid without zora mask.
Catchin' them all
Now that I tried it for a bit, I'm getting the timing back for a bit. I was going to fast basically, but I have wait a split second, I can get the sword slide going with reasonable results. Getting there. Tongue

I'll try to optimaze the run as hell, so you have a nice time to challenge

It would be nice to see both runs, the current any% run looks sloppy as hell... Shocked

I'm doing an any% at the moment

oh, and ZFG, I can hardly believe, that you're that good. maybe you are, but there's nothing, that prove your skill, so don't say, that you will beat my run for sure  Wink

I know I can't prove it right now, but I should get my dvd recorder for Christmas (hopefully...).  I look forward to challenging your run :).  I've watched all of your segments so far and I see places where I know I can improve and I've also had some ideas for speed tricks I need to test soon.  Although you will have one advantage over me.  I'll be using the GC version which means I'll have lag and songs with ^C will be slower.  I do have the N64 version but I can't do shit with N64 controllers.

tell me what you think you could improve and what speed tricks your thinking about. It would be pretty unfair, if you beat my run just because of new tricks Cheesy

Supersliding is not faster than rolling as a Goron, right?
SL used a swordslide for the cutscence set off. How much time does this actually save? If it saves more than 2-3 seconds, I'll re-do segment 7+8.

Edit:
ok, ZFG was right. the superslide over the ice isn't that hard. Maybe I will re-do segment 4-5 soon, but I won't re-do segment 6-8.

The new tricks I'm thinking of would only save a few seconds, nothing major.  I'll test them out in a minute.

Supersliding is actually faster than goron rolling, but there is also the 3.5 - 4 seconds until the bomb explodes.  For something like exiting SCT to the skull kid cutscene, it would probably be the same amount of time for both if its not TASed, and you're not TASing so just keep it.

I'm glad you realize the ice slide isn't hard :).
Merry Chrismas =)
I always tried to do the superslide over the ice like a normal backwards superslide. that doesn't work, because you can't roll forward directly after backwalking.

Do you think of using the infinitive superslide trick?
I've never tried this trick yet. Maybe we could infinitive superslide up the hill to the ice block in segment 4.

I've tried it an its pretty hard without using pauses.  If it near the beginning of a segment, it might be usefull but otherwise its probably best skipped.

I tried out some of the tricks I was thinking of and only 1 works and it might not save any time at all.  Between Sonata and SoS, when you're deku flying over the orange mushroom like things, at the second mushroom, take off the deku mask, face the 3rd mushroom and use a recoil flip off of a dragonfly, then from that mushroom bombchu recoil flip to the wood thing.  It might be useful for GC users (me) because deku flying in that area has heavy lag, or TASers because they could do it extremely fast, but otherwise probably useless.
What are SDAs rules on controller (I'm being lazy yes) because if you could rig a PS2 controller to a N64/GC plug-in (you would probably have to know what you're doing) is it legal. It doesn't do anything that the standard does right (no tubro) its just moving the buttons around and swapping the joystick for a D-Pad (or whatever you want to call it). I'm not sure if self made controllers are allow but if they are this would be a great project.

EDIT: On a different note how many Beans do you need for the 100% run? I haven't watched it, maybbe I will. This comes out of seeing MrGrunz's video with the Deku Palace.

I wouldn't think that the controller you use would make a difference.  As long as you don't use any functions not present on the N64 controller, there shouldn't be a problem.

As for the Beans, you don't need any AFAIK.  That being said, you do need to pay a visit to the guy so that they appear in your inventory.  Thus, we are forced to get one, though I don't know how to use it.
Merry Chrismas =)
I re-did segment 9 and I'm about 16 seconds faster now  Shocked
I wonder where I lost that much time.

I think I saved a lot of time with the new Deku Palace strat, but I also optimazed a lot more. I'm going upload it now.
I'm not your buddy, guay!

They have stuff like this so I'd assume you could rig up (or possibly buy) one with a PS2 controller.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
if you go in to the king's chamber as human, they caught you right a way?
Because I was thinking, if you could go in there, and they don't catch you right away, you could maybe bomb hover to the monkey?

yep, they will catch you

I have a idea, that could maybe work. I'm going to test it tomorrow.

I discovered a weird warp glitch with the south clock town statue. If you bombchu hover into pre-loaded clock tower from west clock town, there will be another owl statue that is linked to a house in east clock town. If you save at this owl statue and load your save file again, you will start in a house in ECT.
Useless, but maybe it means something  Wink

edit: forget it!
someone told me, that the glitch is old Sad
sry, if I bored you with this.
