Greetings, does anybody have videos of SCM's missions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 18, 19? If so, can it be uploaded somewhere, because they are no longer available on SCM's filefront homedir? I would be grateful Smiley PS: sorry for my english ^^
Hi guys.

With SCM improving the ver1.0 run, I was thinking of doing a run with ver1.2

I was wondering, if I should do the Lucas Bertone missions, or not.
And another thing I was asking myself is, wether i'd be allowed to drive cars you learn to steal in the Bertone submissions, eventhough you haven't played them in your speedrun?

I'm thinking of a scene from Xeen's run. He doesn't learn to steal the 'Silver Fletcher' in 'Visiting Rich People' (mission 11), but drives it nonetheless in the end of 'Creme de la Creme' (mission 16).
Why shouldn't you be able to drive those cars? After all, if the game lets you drive those cars it's either by design or an oversight on the developer's part. Since your "learning status" is not saved globally (i.e. it can differ from savegame to savegame) it's not possible to "learn everything" on a first playthrough and use that in a run after that.
Long story short: Use whatever vehicle you can access.
If you want to do the Bertone mission is yours to decide: A run with would be considered "100%", without a normal speedrun, so there's no disadvantage doing them or not… well unless doing them saves more time than it costs, since a 100% run that is faster than a normal run will replace it.
Of course, due to the different version it would be a separate category as well. Well, unless the "disadvantaged version" run is faster (i.e. if your v1.2 run is faster than SCM's 1.0 run, it would replace it).

Hope that clears things up, good luck Smiley Looking forward to your run.

Greetings
xeen
Yes it does, thx xeen Smiley

But being new to the game (of speedrunning not Mafia, that is ;)) I've still got a couple of questions as to editing the recorded run.
Who do I best contact for that?

One question that comes to mind are the small differences between first loading a mission and then retrying a mission.
For example when you load mission 3 for the first time the car has to start first before you can start (see SCM's clip), but if you retry that mission the car is already started and you can go instantly (see xeen's  clip). Sure, in this example it's only a difference of about 5 seconds. But still i'd be interested in who rules which glitches in the game are allowed for the speedrun and which not.

In question, ask mikuyama. For this specific case, I would have not included this 'trick' if I had known what was causing it. At the time I made the run it seemed to appear at random times, so I took whichever of my tries was fastest. It doesn't matter for my run anyway, as Radix dropped the seconds because I recorded using VHS (it's a pain, really, can't recommend it to anyone – buy a DVD recorder or use a 2nd PC or Fraps).
Oh and by the way, the car isn't always already started on a mission retry, it depends if the car was running in the previous try. I can't remember if it has to be the same car or any car.

Greetings
xeen
thx again for the help. i'll do that.

after trying several recording software sollutions, i've decided to stick with FRAPS. files tend to get pretty big, though. about 1gb/min. and recordings files get seperated when they've reached 4gb. but quality looks good Smiley
"Time to go to work..."
Bull3t: Just a heads-up, particularly if you haven't started running yet.

I played through Mafia recently, with an aim to completing it *with* the Lucas missions. Since I went ahead with the Infernal Machine run, and SCM owned my plan so hard it hurt, I've just kept all that on hold.
However, if you would like my half-finished speedrun plan, with Lucas missions, I can post it. (It's kinda long, otherwise I would have just done it right away.)
Bear in mind that, of what I've seen of SCM's strategies, mine's horribly obsolete. However, since he isn't doing the Lucas missions, there might be something there for you to use.

Also, a quick note, perhaps a bit late:
Morello's Silver Fletcher is "special", which is how Xeen got into it. It's also bullet proof. It wouldn't be possible to get into any other Silver Fletchers, just that one. (Same applies to the, uh, big green car, the V16. You drive one for Salieri, but then later on you can't steal them. Probably other examples too.)

Now it's Sui^^
Even though there's probably nobody working on Mafia speedrun, I decided to put it here, maybe somebody will use it Tongue
- Basic wall glitch Smiley
This trick was already used in SCM's run and a guy called "revEn" actually works on a run.
Now it's Sui^^
I didn't know - I wanted to check it, but the links to his run are mostly dead (if not all dead) Grin
Hi, if i inderstand, the run of scm are not on sda because it is in russian language and in release 1.1 ?
Scm, your new speedrun of mafia is finish or you are abandoned??
And bull3t, you have stop your run too?
Thanks for you answer and sorry for my very bad english Grin
Hey there. Wow, the last post in february 2010? Okay, i'm working on an improved speedrun of mafia 1.0. Three things:
1. I have the german version as in xeens run and i have already 8 parts (the whore) finished, with which i'm quiet happy. Is it worth it to restart with the english version, only because of the language?
2. i have cut my existing parts already. but i dont know if this is legal or if i've cut too much, so that it isnt verifiable anymore, if i really played it in sequence.
3. does anybody of you have some videos or tricks, i could use in the individual missions? the parts SCM uploaded are offline. i would have liked to watch it...i need some inspirations except for those xeen gave me with his run and a youtube-link.

Thank you, im lookinng forward to get some advices
@admins: or should i start a new thread?
I remember seeing the mafia wall-walking glitch video above.
There is a way to walk down on the wall in the mission where you must kill a man with sniper from an old prison and escape.
Don't remember how to do it though ...
Thx atomicJo. Yeh, I heard about this glitch, but never found it and the video above isnt working anymore...and there is a speedrun on youtube in supposed 3:23, but some parts are down...nevertheless, my progress looks pretty good, i just wanna have a camparison to my time.
Okay, dont know, if someone is interested in this topic, but I've just finished my run in 3:12:47. I'm quiet happy with the time, but I'll try to improve some parts now.

And for all looking for some glitches, especially for the wall glitch: i found it out by myself:
When you are on the balcony in mission 17 election campaign part 4, kill the mayor and then go left around the corner. When you stand at the end part of the wooden balcony, facing to the wall, press and hold forward (default "W") until you fall down with the broken balcony and reach the courtyard
Good work, I hope you used all the known tricks and glitches.
hey, thanks. I hope so too, but I'll never know before sending it to sda. But I found nothing but I've already used. However, at the moment I'm looking over all parts again. Am I allowed to change or rerecord some parts providing that the succeeding parts won't be effected?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

here is one trick
yeah i used this one. thank you. I think I'm finished now. some driving parts arent perfect, but there are so many factors, which have to fit for a perfect run, so I couldnt improve it. Anyway, I would be thankful for further useful tricks or glitches.
Well, I could upload revEn's unfinished run, which had some very nice tricks that SCM didn't use.
That would be awesome...I'm aiming for a time of 3:10:xx.
Thank you Ewil. That's what I was looking for. Im gonna watch it these days and compare the time with my run...Let's see, if a time of 3:10:xx or less is possible.
Wow, this is really impressive. Im gonna have a more detailed look at some parts. Over all until part 18, he's 1 minute faster than me. I'll try to improve missions 15,16 and 17. How the hell could he sniper the mayor so fast??? Shocked
Thanks again for the upload. By the way: Do you have part 19+20 as well or hasn't he never finished the run?
I'll keep you informed about my progress, but as it seems now, it'll last another couple of days or weeks to finish my run.
