Mafia: The City Of Lost Heaven

One week later i start to write the mafia speedrun, now 16 out of 20 missions already passed, and i hope that i write the last mission on the next few days. I really dont like the previous record by Stefan 'xeen' Breunig (3:41). He cut some segments, near the loading-screens (like 4 segment, when he drive to the Motel), also the audio\video quality aint good too.
I capture this speedrun in the Official Russian Version of this game (3-cd pack http://games.1c.ru/mafia/ ), no additional pathces\mods. I try to win nearly 10-20 minutes by the previous record.

I was planning to do a speedrun of Mafia soon, but I think it's not necessary now that you've nailed it pretty well or at least in those 3 missions. I like the shortcut in mission 4, where you don't even brake before, yet you don't flip the car over.

What is with that left arm when driving ? Is it only for mouselook or does it have any other purpose ?

Agree, it's great game. It's a unique game, different from GTA series. The only problem is a way from one place in city to another it takes so much time! But fortunately game ends in right moment a long before you'll be bored to death 8)

And good luck SCM in rest of the speedrun.

I remember one glitch which allows you almost walk over the wall, but I don't think if it can be useful anywhere :-/

I also really like Mafia, and I was badly surprised with the time of 3:41, I thought it could be done much much faster.

By the run you can see some fun things, i can named this run almost like fun-run, becouse a lot of glitches, bugs, etc. is in this game. Now i need to write the 2 last missions, and my run will be done.

Hm, I actually have planned out a complete speedrun of Mafia, starting with Xeen's run, and then also adding in the Lucas missions for extra cars, and 100% I suppose.
Now, since I'm currently running Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and have been for, uh, a *year*, and I'm still only a quarter in, I think it would be kinda silly of me to hang on to that route until, uh, 2011.
So, if you want, I can give you the complete run, as it deviates from Xeen's route. (If you're not doing the Lucas missions, it may deviate a bit here and there.)
But since you're already 90% through, that might not be necessary. Also, since I haven't watched the 90% you've *already* done, you might pwn enough that it was obsolete anyway.
But I suppose I can give you what little shortcuts I've found that would still apply:

(Thanks to GameFAQs): When reloading, rolling for instant reload. Works on everything except the pump shotgun; will only reload one shell, rather than the whole gun. I think.
Stealing cars that are driving is faster than stealing parked ones. No lockpicking. Further, parked ones have little gasoline. No running out of gas.
If you block both doors of a car you are going to exit, or if there is a passenger in front and you block the driver-side door, you will exit from the car *instantly*, spawning in front, or if that's blocked, somewhere else I suppose. The same applies to flipped cars, if I remember right.

Moonlighting
Cool: Looking at various ornamental stuff out the L-train window. Woman buying a boat, men fixing up a station, windows being cleaned, people talking, et cetera. Anything but flip the map on and off, like Xeen did.

Moonlighting: Lucas
Minor: After visiting Lucas, driving diagonally across the lawn, and hitting the low concrete wall's corner at such an angle as to cause a near straight-up jump with a 360° spin. Woot.
Minor: Allow cops to tag along to the Trautenberg, shoot them there.

The Death of Art
Route: Lucas, then follow the whore, then to Pete's (if necessary), then to Lucas, then to the New Thor.
Minor: Get teh Tohmpson. Think about it. Might justify visiting Pete's on its own.

And that's that, I suppose.
If you want the rest of the plan, give me a shout.

Note: my version of this game is 1.1 (or different, but above 1.0), so i cant use the shortcut in a race (mission 6). But anyway i select max. difficulty (Pro), and take off, fairly, all 5 laps.

You said in the first post that you haven't used any patches and now 1.1 suddenly. I really like your run so far, but I see no reason for running this game in 1.1 version instead of 1.0, which allows you the shortcut in race and of course not everyone speaks russia Sad

Man, you should have asked about this stuff before starting the run, that's why this forum exists. It could have been such an amazing run.

I'm not talking about legality, I'm talking about that the run could have been faster if SCM would get unpatched 1.0 version and preferrably in english since SDA is international site and 100% people here speaks english on at least some basic level, but only minority understands russia.

Yes, i dont use any additional patches, this russian version already is "1.1" after installation.
Who, right now, play in oldest version 1.0 of this game? I dont care about this 2-4 minutes.
I really like the russian version of this game, so i decided to write run in this "1C" version. I think that most of you already learn this english dialogues, and you will understand what is going on there.

I think that language doesn't make difference in that case. Almost all cuts scenes are skipped, so you can't now almost anything about the story, health and ammo are numbers and choosing an action is simple (Enter to car as driver / Enter to car as passenger / Cancel).

In school I learn English and Russian and of course native-language Tongue

If it's not an cRPG game with a lot of choices, the language is really not important for me (unless it's Polish 8))

Well, I did, and the guy who ran the previous run, and anyone interested in one of the most major shortcuts of the game would.
And relatively legally downloading an alternate language version of a game you already own isn't all that difficult.

The only thing that really matters *is* speed.
On the other hand, since Xeen's run frequently used the Speed Limiter when driving, you'll still be faster overall, probably. But it's a real shame to forego a major shortcut like that.

I still think it's very very silly to *intentionally* go for a much slower version of the game to speedrun. But, that won't stop me from watching the run when it's finished, even if it *has* minutes to shave off.
...Might just make me more willing to do a 100% run myself, though...

Cmon, his run is great. Who cares about few minutes if he beats old record anyway. Also, running version 1.0 feels like cheating. And in Russia game is not available in 1.0 - only 1.1.

No, all game dialogues have constant time, and time of acting dialogue-sound doesnt have any influence.

Do you run into any "bugs" that would have occurred if you would have had the 1.0 version? If you dont'run into any bugs anyway you should take the 1.0/whateverlanguage-version just for speed purposes.

By reading this topic I conclude that some people would like you to redo the run on the 1.0 version (English, because not much people understand Russian), enabling you to use some race-shortcut cutting of 2 minutes from your final time.

This is joke? You really think, that i have unlimited free-time in my life, to redo this run, becouse i play with official 1.1 patch?
Previous run - is in german language, and i think that "not much people understand German" too, but all still ok.
