It's been a while since I played Kingdom Hearts, but I found that it was fairly easy. The only boss that ever gave me trouble was Sephiroth (of course). I'll have to look at my final total play time, but I believe it was 20 - 30 hours which included doing nearly 100% of everything. I believe that a pure speed run could be done in the 7 hour limit, but I'll have to check the strategy guide again to be sure.
I just browsed through the strategy guide, and it should be possible to do a run of this, but I won't actually be able to do one for a couple of weeks.
Also, my first playthrough was 43 hours with nearly 100% of everything done, including all characters lvl 100.
This game is a great canidate to be run, because almost all the normal enemies can be skipped.
1. Pick the "sun-rises"/fast-level path at the start, as your going to be a super low level at the end anyway. I would also say to pick the +wand -shield (for magic--MP Rage/Haste & strength)
Contrary to normal, picking +shield might be the worst choice because none of the good abilitys (MP boosters especially & extra items) show up until level 60+, which you would never reach in a speedrun. Also, if you get hit a lot, your levels are already so low that having +2-4 defense isint going to make nearly as much difference as an extra MP bar would.
2. Make sure to level up and then abuse goofy's ability to give out magic when sora is low. After you have that, stock up on ethers and you can just trounce most bosses with non-stop magic (give goofy the ethers so he can load you up).
I think that almost all the decent weapons are given to you just by completing the normal story. The hardest bosses would be riku (argh i hated this boss on hard mode, I can only imagine how he would be with super low levels) in neverland and the giant snake thing in the jungle (low levels + no heal spell = annoying).
I'm pretty sure you dont even need to visit olympus to beat the game, which would save a load of time from what people are posting above.
I beat this game on hard mode w/ olympus with 23 hours at the final save point. This game could definately be beaten in sub 7. Best of luck to anybody who tries.
Not only do you not have to visit Olympus, I believe you can also skip ONE of Atlantica or...Halloweentown? Let me check, the topic is still around, I just have to find it.
Hey. A run on this game on any difficulty would be impressive if you ask me (expert being preferred obviously).
I don't know about other people's tastes, but I'd skip Atlantica, since I hated it. Then again, I hated Halloweentown too, but Atlantica was just awful.
I did start a game with the intention of doing a practice run, but all the crap in the beginning and unskippable scenes bugged me too much.
Anyway, good luck Crispx. Let me know if I can help test something for you if need be (or help in some other way).
I'm not trying to bash SDA at all...but if you looked at the guys pictures even the box art and whatnot looks very professional. Besides...for me, it would be easier just to buy 4 dvds then spend a few months downloading. I'm already backed up yet again with a few more gigs to download. Thanks alot Radix.
I can understand paying some money for speedruns on DVD, but IMO the guy wants way too much money for it to sell well. If he cuts the price in half I would expect his orders to go up quite a bit. Just my $.02.
You smell something Rabbit? Yeah...overpriced speedruns.
I'll also post an outline of my planned path for the run in a few days when I have some more free time away from my job search.
1.Staff, Shield yadayadayadayada 2.Air strike the first heartlesses in attempts to hit muiltiple targets. 3.Pick the fastest route to level. 4.Use the same strategy to take out the next set of heartlesses 5.Fight Darkness and go gungho. This shouldnt matter if you get hit or not because either way you take very little damage.
Destiny Islands 1.Grab the log 2.Go and grab the rope at Tidus's area. 3.Head torward the Cloth but instead of using the ladder, grab on the edge. (Bit tricky with the camera view your in when your heading torward the Cloth.
I think you can swap 2 and 3 to whatever suits you.
4.Head to Riku's Area, get the last item, go about the sea shack and jump off to reach Kairi.
Im not sure if the race is optional or not. I think you have to do it.
