Quote from romscout:
we start with some "disaster clips", maybe like Zeal's tidal wave in CT (thanks Breakdown) or Kagnazzo's wave attack in FF4 (thanks Uyama)

I don't mean to be a Scrooge, but in my opinion, this seems like it would be in really poor taste and people could perceive this as us making light of the tragedy even if we say we're trying to help them. Why not just use actual photos of the disaster?
Actual footage from the disaster would go against the pure gaming theme that the previous marathon trailers had. Also, shifting from tragic live footage of the disaster to a bunch of clips of video games would be far too jarring for the audience.  Besides, the video needs to be upbeat and hopeful, they are doing a good thing. A somber beginning that builds up to hope is what the trailer should be, and that can be accomplished without disaster clips.

OK here's my few-second contribution:

MetalGearSolid2_Tanker_100pDT_Extreme_1815 frames 26330-26420 (F2) or 52660-52840 (F1).

(7:37-7:41)

Unfortunately, all the quick impressive strats for these categories either weren't thought of when the run was published, or I screwed up in the run itself... If we're able to source from runs not currently on SDA I could get something better?

I'm just trying to impress you.

Obvious disaster moments in the video (1:00, 2:47, etc). Videos pretty funny too.

I am still trying to figure out the best way of putting this video together.  I got the parts downloaded but where things stand, I can't figure out the proper way to make this (what clips to use), and the message that should be said.

Granted that if you want me to place just the video for right now, I can do that and then for any additional messages, that can be added on.  The thing for the video promo though (as mentioned previously) needs to be up soon to allow enough time to circulate and generate interest.  Still, I'll continue with what I can.

Yea I'm sorry I haven't been helping MAS, just been trying to juggle school and organizing this. Go ahead and upload what you have and I'll tell you what text to add or if any clips should be changed.

To be honest Mr. Scout, I could say the same thing as well; trying to balance school, work, and an intership at the same time is... complicated...

All the same though, I don't want to let that mean, "I'm not going to do it."  If anything, I think I know how to approach this:

Disaster might be a bad idea, but I think it won't hurt to add a one or two things at the start to signify that we are doing this marathon because of these reasons.  Then from there, just need to figure out how to structure the video.  I'm not going to lie, this is going to need a 2nd draft I'm sure...  I'll see for having it ready (hopefully) by this evening.  I'll post it here by that time, if not early tomorrow...
that Metroidvania guy
Of course, everyone's having to balance stuff in their life and this if they are participating in any way lol. I wasn't trying to make it sound like it was only me having to deal with that, sorry if that's what it seemed like. :p

And that's fine MAS. I think we determined some kind of alarm/emergency clips would work at the start, followed by "call to arms" clips, then the speed tricks.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Not at all romscout, we all got things to take care of (besides, managing a marathon takes alot of work, so mass kudos to you and Mike Tongue )

I just realized something however...  While we have alot of "Call to arms" suggestions, we actually don't have alot of "alert/emergency" clips suggested.  I'll still try to work with what I got, but I'm sure I'll think of something...

That and need to figure out how to "Creatively" mix the songs.  I've like the ToV suggestion, but I just need to figure out what to use in the first part.

I might be thinking too much since this needs to be 90 seconds, but I want to make sure it is worthwhile as well (need to get material for a video profolio for next month's video editing class too Smiley )

Waiting hurts my soul...
Some games that might have emergency/alarm sounds/clips:

Portal
Resident Evil (unsure)
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (unsure)
StarTropics (low health sound)
VVVVVV
Super Mario RPG (unsure)
Contra

Some other thoughts... gaining money (because we're raising money) clips, gaining health (because we're supporting medical help) clips; Dr Mario seems pretty obvious for the charity.
Quits halfway
Gaining money should be something from one of the old Castlevanias, getting it from a candle or something absurd (encourage people to dig around for any amount?).

I'm watching dee_ehn right now playing Super Castlevania IV stage 9.  That is the treasury level.  Those kind of levels might be useful.  Addams Family has those I believe, and perhaps Duck Tales?
Professional Second Banana
How about a clip of Mario grabbing coins from one of the bonus stages in SMB1/3 (like the coin ship in SMB3)?

If only I had another week to properly work on this...

To be honest, I have "something" but I admit that it isn't one I would want to show yet.

The only ideas I have so far is showing "lost of hope" which I can show such things like X getting trapped, or Sonic shot (or whatever happened to him in 06 sonic), all the while playing another song from Tales of Vesperia (The Full Moon and The morning star).

While this is playing, we can have a message played out about the disaster in Japan and how it has left people with no hope (I was never good coming up with a proper script in short notice).  As the music fades out with the video, then to have something like, "Never lose hope!" then the music start playing the battle theme suggestion from earlier as we see the "call to arms" and "revived hope" scenes.  Then from there we will have "SDA Presents: The Japan Relief Done Quick!  79 Continuous Hours of your favorite Video games completed as fast as possible.  All money raised will be given to the "Doctors without Borders" to help with relief efforts in Japan."  Then it ends with something like, "Help show the world to not lose hope" or some cheesy line like that.

I've got the clips, but I am having trouble with the execution and the script.  Still, I swear that by tomorrow, I will have something, and while it will not be the best, something needs to be posted with enough time to actually have runners and other supporters post this video to make sure interest is generated.

So yea, if you guys want to give me any last minute help, all I ask is for "Losing hope" clips, alittle more call to arms clips, and above all else, A SCRIPT!  Otherwise, this is going to be lackluster compared to the last marathon promo.

I'm still hellbent on finishing this video...  Believe that. Smiley

It's ok if it's a little lackluster, MAS. We didn't have time for this one like we did with AGDQ. Due to what little time we have left before the marathon begins, we're going to have to advertise however we can even without a trailer. If you have any kind of trailer ready by tomorrow, that'd be great and we can give it to our YouTube contacts for promotion (and anyone can use their YouTubes, Facebooks, Twitters, etc. right now to promote this).

* repeatedly shoots self in the foot*

I really hoped to have something put together, but at this point because the marathon is tomorrow, there just isn't enough time to properly post the trailer and to get feedback to improve on it.  With what I have put together, I would barely call it passable, much less presentable.  I can still post it sometime tomorrow or somewhere along the evening when I add the finishing touches, render and post to youtube, but I don't like where this video is going.

I just find it way too misleading due to lack of suggestions and some clips added might give the viewer the wrong opinion (I didn't use any flood scenes, just sad moments like X trapped, Samus almost beaten in Super Metroid, Sonic killed in 06 and Tabuu owns everybody...  Still need one more sad moment though; really desperately trying to not add any FFVII, that has been used way to much...)  From there, you have the call to arms scenes, and then a few mention of some games that are going to be shown.  It was a good plan, and if I had more time, I probably would feel much better about this.  As I said before though, if you want me to post what I came up with, I still can, but that still wouldn't be enough time to give it to the other runners to spread the word.

Sorry guys.  >_<  I'll be sure to at least have the highlight reel ready soon, so that if there needs to be some kind of intermission or something, that would be a good way to help pass the time...
Random sad clip I can think of - Deku Tree's death in Ocarina of Time.

Really though, I don't think you should worry too much about finding specific types of clips and making everything absolutely perfect. We're short on time and at this point anything is better than nothing. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to get the word out there.
Everything's better with Magitek
I recorded and uploaded a promo video to Youtube.  It's nothing fancy - just me talking about the marathon - but I hope it'll help get the word out.

To be honest Essentia, your video is much better than what I had made in a short period.  Probably in the future, if we don't have enough time to make a proper promo again, we should have fellow runners mention the marathon and perhaps some of the games they will be running as well; that way it doesn't feel like we are trying to rush to get a promo out like what happened just now.

Again, I do apologize for falling short of this goal, at least I will have the other video ready by the marathon.
