Obviously the whole point of this thing is to get some money together, so let's think about ways to do that!

Obviously we have prizes, which are coming together nicely (Mercury's doing stuff for us again, and I think there might be some perlers coming from Caleb Hart? I'd have to re-read the topic to be sure). But we should also turn our attention to stuff we can do in-game that would be good for donations.

Stuff I've thought of off the top of my head:
* Cotton Alley in Super Meat Boy. Would require adding 10-15 minutes to the schedule, but I've talked to Breakdown and joe and they're down with it!
* Stuff you can name in Earthbound, SMRPG, etc.
* Choice of character for Castlevania 3 and Bloodlines, but this is already on the schedule

Any other ideas for your game, or any other game for that matter, let's hear them!

that Metroidvania guy
-RE1 choice of character
-Sonic '06 choice of story (only from the ones that take less than 2 hours though)
-Dr. Mario choice of background music

Something I'm considering for SotN if MarkSoupial doesn't end up racing me (he hasn't been online in a while so it's likely that it won't be a race) is to allow the intro cutscene (WHAT IS A MAN?) to play in full if a certain donation amount is hit. It would have to be a fairly big donation count, because this would end up lowering my starting stats, prevent me from having a meaningful clock rush time, and take me out of my comfort zone. However, because I'm at least kinda-sorta-almost good at the game, I'm willing to do this and do practice runs where I allow the cutscene to play. I'd still finish well within the allotted time I gave myself for the game, but I'm just not sure yet. :p What do you think?
Wiiaboo
- Levels/worlds/whole game to 100% in SMW2
- Which mode to play in Tetris Attack
- Whether to play hard mode in RKA (Muwaha)
- Donation meter for VVVVVV -- the higher the donation, the more trinkets must be collected
- On-the-spot donations for Super Meat Boy with a certain minimum (say $10), the person donating gets to specify a character both runners must use for a certain stage (if it's possible). This would require a file setup obviously

Also, joke suggestion:
- All emeralds for Sonic 1

... It would be awesome though
No it wouldn't be. >_>
My feelings on The Demon Rush
100% suggestion for YI is bad. Scheduling is tighter this marathon, and 100% levels add a lot of time to the total.

all of them take less than 2 hours <_<

If there's any more suggestions for 06 though then I'm game, MP1 and Sonic 4 don't really seem like they have a lot people could donate for. I think Miles suggested donating to watch the cutscene where Silver gets kicked in the head (Shadow/Silver stories) but he might have been joking o.o

They could donate to make you stop playing it. Wink

Although if you're going to talk cutscenes perhaps the infamous Sonic-gets-killed cutscene?

I wasn't joking though when I said it. That seems like a fun little incentive for maybe $5-$20. o.o  After all, people did donate for a few silly/awesome cutscenes during AGDQ.

And I guess any other games with popular cutscenes can have a donation incentive for the cutscene(s) as well. Like perhaps SotN.
Prospected Runner
>.> shame theres no mmx4 again id pay to see that iris cutscene over and over
Fucking Weeaboo
If we don't include it, lots of people will ask WHAT AM I DONATING FOOOOOORRRRR!!!!!

Actually, we should take donations to stick it somewhere at random during the marathon if we're on time/ahead of schedule.  Show the original?  The version redubbed by the MMX8 VA?  Hmmm...

for meatboy, donations forcing us to use tofu boy for x levels could be cute. would have to figure out which levels are possible to beat with him though Smiley
Meatboy: I assume that warp zones will be skipped. Can we donate for beating The Kid's warp zone, and maybe using him in certain levels?
Mega Man X2: Maybe actually picking up Zero's parts?
Resident Evil 2: Choice of outfits. Brad zombie.
Castlevania DoS: I notice it's NG+, will he be doing Julius route? If so, I'd say donation for what character to use against different bosses.
Star Wars: SotE: It's been a long time, so I forget the specifics of it, but I recall being able to put in a code to change your ship for the last level. Maybe donations to use either an X Wing or a Tie Fighter in the last level?
Contra, Super C: Donations for low %.
Maximum Carnage: Donations for using either Spider-Man or Venom. I think you can change per level, so can do this multiple times.
1080 Snowboarding: Maybe donations for which boarder to use? Not sure if there are only a few that are actually viable, if so, then amongst that pool.
Cave Story: Donations for Machine Gun or Polar Star (later upgraded).
Sunset Riders: Donation for character.
Super Mario World: Donation for Mario or Luigi.
an easy one, donations to play Still Alive at the end of portal instead of skipping the credits.
Willing to teach you the impossible

Mega Man X2: Maybe actually picking up Zero's parts?

Doable as I do have a 100% rout. So this is an option. But I am sure the overall time would be a bit higher. I gave myself a few extra minutes for just in case issues. So If 100% (zero parts) does get the run, I will be running tight on time. Might run over a few minutes. Just something to keep in mind.

Contra, Super C: Donations for low %.

FUCK THAT!! Bidding wars. Top total gets the run. Low% took the cake WAY too fast last time. Also helps get more money. I also gave myself some extra time on this game just in case this happens.

I was thinking about this too. I am game for this one. Any boarder is good. Can also put a bounty on the Penguin Board use. It is the best board to use, but for a marathon it should have a bounty for for its use. A slower boarder and not using the Penguin Board only adds like 15-25 seconds to the run any way.

Yes
I'd take donations for a flame run with Contra III for the bonus stream.  If you're not familiar with what this entails, watch.  http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12832822

That kinda was my fault
Donations to get Trek to play through Elmo's Number Journey during the marathon ending.

The run is going to be the very hard vs. mode.  There's really no other mode to run.

I'm open to Startropics suggestions.  I really can't think of any, though.

Donations for more trinkets in VVVVVV would be all kinds of fun, however, It could easily cause me to go beyond my scheduled time, which is bad. However, I would be more than willing to go out of my way for "Doing Things the Hard Way"/"Veni Vidi Vici"/"Why can't Veridian Jump?!?" Most people consider that to be the hardest trinket, so I am certain poeple will be willing to date to see it and I will still be able to make my scheduled time.

If the scheduling for the marathon was less tight, I would be willing to do this. I will do some practicing to see how much time I would need to get all the trinkets.

I foresee a miserable pile of donations (or maybe I should say TRIBUTE) if you're up to this.

Got any silly songs you can play on Captain Bell's organ?
Actually, I did a run through today getting all the trinkets, and even though it was the first time I have done 100% in months, I played horribly and was still able to get a 25:33 which is only 33 seconds over my allotted time. With a bit of practice I should be able to stay in the ~22:00 minute range. so yeah I'd be willing to do some kind of donation for number of trinkets obtained. Your call.
Megaman 5: A bidding war for me doing the Wily-won't-shut-up cutscene sounding either like Dr. Ogdon Wernstrum (if you've seen Futurama, you know it is) or in a more maniacal sounding way. Yes, it's completely cheesy, but if it just raises $10, it's worth it. Smiley

So slow to play any notes.  Nice idea, though.
Everything's better with Magitek
Lego Harry Potter has extras, like Lego Star Wars did
-Disguise (noseglasses)
-Carrot wands
-Singing mandrake (instead of screaming)
-Christmas (everyone wears Santa hats with Christmas music in the background)
-Silhouettes (all characters are black silhouettes)
-Ice rink (ground becomes slippery)

Christmas, silhouettes, and ice rink would probably only be for one level each, since they make the level harder.  I could also take donations to play some of the cutscenes (since they're skippable in this game), but while they're kind of humorous, I can't really think of any that stand out.
Quote from Butters:
Cave Story: Donations for Machine Gun or Polar Star (later upgraded).

Unfortunately, I haven't practiced with the Polar Star, Snake, or Spur at all, so I'll have to veto this.  Perhaps this will change in a future marathon.
