Hello people of SDA! My name is Kevin and I decided a couple days ago to try my hand at some speed runs. The game that I am currently learning is Final Fantasy 8 as it is my favorite Final Fantasy. Also I have never beat the entire thing so that is the other reason why I want to learn the game. I am going to look for other games to speed run on my twitch channel at http://www.twitch.tv/smallz08

All suggestions of ps1/ps2 games are welcome.

Some future projects include: Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Arc the Lad, Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 10.
Larry Cruft, Tomp Ridur
Hey Guys,

I'm Jared, I've been speedrunning Tomb Raider 1 & 2 for a while but only just decided to join SDA!

I have acquired quite a few Individual Level World Records and recently completed my first ever and THE first ever SS Glitchless run of Tomb Raider 1 view-able here

I'm slowly building my own community of Tomb Raider lovers at my twitch channel twitch.tv/jareds129 and i'm having a lot of fun!

A bit about me personally, I am a freelance Videographer and Motion Graphics artist. I recently completed my Masters in Film & Video production and I have had a lot of extra time to take speedrunning more seriously since completing my qualification. I'm really interested in growing my twitch audience as I've met some really great people from streaming alone.

Anyways, thats about it. You'll probably be seeing a lot more of me on SDA thumbsup
Heyo
Heyo, my name is Kazami and I speedrun Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver and Hitman: Blood Money. Haven't started streaming yet because I still am practicing and wish to improve my times. I am extremely competitive and hope that one day I will obtain a world record for any category and any game at some point. I definitely wont stop until I do.
Hello Community, i'm Pl4y3r404 Belgian Runner (at least i'm trying) of ESJ: Groove city, unfortunatly i does not have any record at the moment (too lazy to highlight them in fact >.>) i also streaming crypt of the necrodancer or Payday2 on my twitch channel

well, what could i say more, i'm not really good at introducing myself, ohh yeah, as you can see, my english is pretty bad i'm working on improve it, hope people can understand me :') .
Dickheads everywhere, yo!
Greetings, I go by Elmotus on the internets and I was introduced to ESA and AGDQ/SGDQ by a friend of mine and after a while of pondering, decided to start practicing some of my favorite games, mainly Vice City (PS2 version for now, Its the version I have more experience with), Beavis & Butt-Head for the Genesis and Mr.Gimmick for the NES. Havent started timing the runs properly yet, but so far my best on Vice is 2h 32min according to the stats at the end of the game and 16 minutes on Beavis & Butt-Head. I would love to stream, but I dont have a powerful enough computer for that, or anything to capture footage from consoles.
Hi everyone guys! I'm iceman001 and i'm very glad to be part of this community! i'd like to make some speedrun (Snes and PSX games at the moment) and i'm still taking info and learning different things..See ya!!!
Ciao

I'm dun. I started speedrunning Sonic 1 yesterday. I've played shmups and beatmania for score, but this is my first speedrun. Figure I'll be playing Sonic 1 for years either way, may as well try something new.

Put about an hour into the MZ2 zip, got it once... and realized a wireless controller probably isn't best for this. Managing to get it more consistently now. Got my GH1 down to a consistent 25s.

Looking forward to seeing what I can learn today, and to being a part of this cool community!
Hi people of the forum, I'm alzack and I figured I might as well make an account here. I don't actually speedrun any games right now, I plan to start sometime soon. I'm mostly looking at Cave Story speedruns, but also would like to try Super Meat boy, They Bleed Pixels, and maybe Dark Souls 1 and 2. I'll probably stream attempts practice at http://www.twitch.tv/alzack13, but I'm not sure when I will start.

On that note, if anyone has a link to a good Cave Story speedrun (non TAS), or run notes or something, I would appreciate it. I'm not sure where to look.
Lurker since at least 2008 here.

The name is Varuuna, from Sweden, and I loved watching SDA's speedruns for many years on and off.
As of recently, however, I've started speedrunning a few games (Shovel Knight, Cave Story and Kero Blaster) but I'm not entirely sure what games or even which genre I wish to focus more (or less) on. The beforementioned 3 games are "locked in" for me however.

I'm 22 years of age and also looking to become a game developer myself in the future, to hopefully develop more games which can work well for speedrunning.

Be seeing you all around!
Hello everybody!

My real name is Zackary Elliott, but I decided to use my username from youtube (created during my teenage years) TheSilentOne.  That was just a self-imposed name for myself since I used to be on the shy side.
I was messing around on youtube a few months ago and happened upon Mister K's Sim City speed run from SDA.  I didn't really know what I was watching at first, but I liked what I saw.  From that, I found some of the SDA videos and ended up watching speed runs of a lot of my favorite games.  I had always known about speed running, but never really knew where to go for information about it, before that.

Shortly after viewing some of the videos, I started my own Any%, segmented run for Final Fantasy 6 (played on the PSX, since I don't have my SNES copy anymore) and managed to get to Vector (2nd trip, right before the banquet with Emperor Gestahl) with a time of about 2:42 on the game clock.  I don't know how good that actually is, but I was proud of it.  But it was also around that time that school got in the way, and then I took a nice, long vacation.

But my goal is to finish the run and hopefully start on some other RPGs, especially ones that I don't really see in the SDA marathons, such as games from the Breath of Fire or Star Ocean series.  I also have a few off-the-wall RPGs (such as Okage: Shadow King for PS2) that I would like to do some runs of.  I would also like to get more involved in the SDA forums and see if I can help with some of the strategies for games.  However, I am in college, so we'll see what time allows for.

Well, that's all that I've got, for now.  Later, everyone.
Hello!

I'm BBQTurkeyzZ, real name Oliver and began watching speedruns properly around October last year, after watching a Super Metroid run from Acmlm. I then began watching runners such as Iateyourpie and Almolicious on Twitch due to my love of Paper Mario games. This inspired me to start speedrunning.
I had a look around at games I like and what would be an ideal choice to start with and eventually decided on Super Mario World. I began practicing Any% and soon got a full run completed; a fairly terrible 24:05.

I continued practicing and managed a 16:04 which didn't get recorded as it was originally a practice run to try and do better on several levels.

I'm going to buy Super Mario 3D World soon and probably a capture card and start running that as well. Eventually I plan to run some of the games that got me into speedrunning such as Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Mario Sunshine.

See you around!
Caution: This user contains Kana ^_^
Hello and welcome to all the newcomers here =D

TheSilentOne: Nice, I approve of further fellow RPG speedrunners =D May I direct you to the thread of RPG Limit Break, the RPG marathon in planning that's scheduled to happen next May? =D And also, there have been the past Crystals for Life marathons 2013 and 2014, the former being a sole Final Fantasy marathon, the latter being a more general RPG marathon. They sure should be great watches ^^

Wobble Di Bubble Di Doo~
Hello to all you guys here on SDA! I'm AbbyStabby and it's nice to meet you! c:

I've been a huge fan of speedruns for years and figured it might soon be time to get myself a hobby (college made having a hobby impossible). And what better hobby to have than speedrunning. I'm a ways off from being able to actually start speedrunning seriously (I am currently jobless and have NO recording equipment at this time), but I can at least get started by watching and reading what has already been discovered about the games I am deadset on running! Maybe even practice some strats here and there.

My first attempts at speedrunning (before I knew exactly what speedrunning was) was on Starfox Adventures for the Nintendo Gamecube. Without knowing any of the huge skipping glitches, I thought I did pretty good (somewhere around 5 hours). But after watching a speedrun two years ago, it would appear that I have a lot to learn.

If I get serious about this, I think I'll be sticking to Gamecube/PS2/PC games. I don't have too many newer games nor have much access to new consoles. So they're perfect for me!

Big shoutout to this year's SGDQ for inspiring me to take action on my desire to speedrun games myself! It's a small step, but the first step is always very important!
Hello, everyone. Real name's Rowan, but please call me Owlie.

I'm 21, loved games (both video and board) all my life, but didn't have access to much outside of pokemon for most of it, for monetary reasons. I also am a Jack Of All Arts (Visual, Performing, and Martial).

My friend got me into watching speed running, and I would like to participate. However, I'm likely to lurk and occasionally ask questions more than anything, at least for a while. I like to observe and research things before I jump in... And especially while I figure out what I'd like to run. (So far I'm thinking about a few ds/game boy color games I can't find much info on that I've been handed down or found at yard sales, since I'm too out of practice on Psychonauts and still struggle on the final escort quest.)

I apologize in advance if I'm quiet or do more watching or listening than speaking, but I'll promise to reply if spoken to. Hopefully I'll eventually get to know everyone, and find a new hobby/talent in the process. Or at least have fun trying to improve my times and possibly find some 'new' games to speedrun.

To FIX & HD Body Harvest 4 PJ64/Jabo
Hello SDA! My name is Jason, aka Jay. I'm known on the webs as GITech.

I am so taken by the work SDA has done here!!! I found out about SR by watching AGDQ/SGDQ marathons. I would be lying of I said I didn't want to do a speedrun for one of those events, so that is my ultimate goal!

I'm 37 and have played games all my life. I am also a Jack of All Trades so to speak. Here is one of my projects, and I plan to do a speedrun with it:

Watch this vid for a great overview:

I made an HD retexture pack for Body Harvest for the N64. The texture pack is a work in progress as Java is the only level that is mostly HD, but the DL includes my full PJ64 folder so yu have a great emu all setup.

Here is the DL for my HD pack + emu:  https://www.sendspace.com/file/3tm6s7

This game also has an active speedrunning community here, though I would suggest playing it like normal as much as possible to enjoy what it has to offer: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/body_harvest_64_improvements_227.html#body_harvest_64_improvements_227

If you did not know, Body Harvest was made by DMA, who later became Rockstar North and IS the first 3d GTA game! It is a blast and it almost became a full RPG while it's production was delayed by Nintendo. It also has heavy influences from their time with Nintendo such as Metroid (aliens attack space station, yellow and orange suit hero escapes to the planet, bug like aliens, exploration and backtracking to use items/vehicles/weapons that you find to progress. Here is an article about Nintendo's involvement: http://www.edge-online.com/features/making-body-harvest/

The game has a hierarchy of jobs for each enemy, they are not just here to kill you, and some other unique mechanics. I highly recommend you check out the original instruction manual here: http://gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Nintendo_N64//Manual/formated/Body_Harvest_-_1998_-_Gremlin_Graphics.pdf

I think of this game as "Grand Theft Metroid Harvest"  Best game ever!  Well, super under rated GEM anyway in need of a remake... or an HD update (wink-wink).

The controller profile v4 is my favorite and it is setup for a logitech dual action. Control tip: DRIFT by tapping on the brake!

Some save states were to be used for testing the collision/invisible wall bug back in 2008, and still should be relevant today. Post #34 here for more info: http://www.emutalk.net/threads/45346-Body-Harvest-HD-texture-pack-WIP/page4

You may need to have a fast PC with an SSD. PJ64 is setup for BH in interpreter mode to stop a crash.

You should be able to just extract, setup your controller, set ROM directory and play. This is for the (U) version of the game.

I'm also looking for feedback and possibly help with the pack if you'ed like to. This game doesn't work 100% and you'll need to find ways to blast your way around the progress halting issues. Speedrunning strats can be used to progress where needed! I can help if you get really stuck! You can also look up cheats and use the "Power/Serious Weapons" cheat with a Sniper Rifle to blast a vehicle all the way across the map with you in it!

The only bad part of Body Harvest was it's graphics, but we all know that all GTA games have always had lower graphics compared to other games "at the time" due to the games open world nature... well, not any more:

If you try it, please let me know if it works for you in the Body Harvest thread here on SDA!

I'm so thrilled to be here among you guys, and just being in an active community that has brought people around Body Harvest is a dream come true for me.

Thanks for all you have done and for all you will do for speedrunning/me/Body Harvest going forward. Smiley

Later,
Jay
Howdy! Name's Kiwi, and my buddy GamerOwlie and I just recently got into speed running. It's a bit my fault; I spent a few days with them watching AGDQ and SGDQ videos until our brains melted in November, and we actually got around to watching almost the entirety of SGDQ this year live.

I know Owlie's a big Pokemon and Psychonauts junkie, but I've been a huge Sonic gamer myself since '94. Recently I've found that apparently nobody runs the category I'm looking to get into: a 100% run of S3&K with Tails.

I suspect it's got something to do with the lack of Super Tails until all 14 Emeralds are collected.

My current PB is running a 0:45 on Angel Island 1, and I'm hoping to someday get my computer (and my old Genesis) running again. I'm currently stuck having to settle with my Steam port of the game, and frankly, I don't think that's allowed for actual records here.

I guess that's my first big thing to settle before I continue anything here. Smiley But other than that, I'm happy to be here to see if I've got fellow Tails running kin on here!
Hello! My name is Brandon, you can call me Brandon, or Barndo. Either is fine.
I got interested in speedrunning not that long ago, actually. I stumbled upon Cosmo's 2013 AGDQ run of Wind Waker, and seeing all the glitches in the game like superswimming, zombie hovering, ledge clipping, and especially storage. All of these different things kinda blew my mind like, "People actually discovered these?" and I can't even begin to imagine the trial and error it took to figure all of it out. My interest is directly related to the amount of dedication it takes to find all of these different glitches and skips, and I'm not just talking about Cosmo
I have been watching a lot of speedruns over the past few weeks, namely most of the AGDQ runs from 2013 and 2014.
As for runs myself? I haven't really tried any yet. I wanted to get up in knowledge before I attempted anything, so I always like advice and information! If anybody has recommendations on some good games to try speedrunning, I will gladly attempt those as well.

Thanks for having me, and I hope to stick around for a while!
Hello there! ^^ My name is Tom (a.k.a Amanarick) I"ve been tryin to speedrun Megaman 2 and gave up, then i"m on Kid icarus Uprising, and i"m looking for strats to speedrun. I love to watch Speeedruns, AGDQ/SGDQ or Speed game (a french youtube channel) so i expect that it will be cool and i"m returning on my Kid icarus, See ya Wink
Hey I'm Monko, I speedrun a variety of games but mostly the Kid Icarus trilogy. I hope to come to AGDQ 2015 if I have enough money to go.
Hi, I'm frozentreasure, a.k.a Roy. I don't speedrun anything currently, though as soon as I get an NTSC N64 and copy of Mischief Makers that should change. Got shown the speedrunning community when I was linked to AGDQ 2013, and have been wanting to get involved myself since. Because I live in Australia, it's harder for me to run a lot of games that I like, with the PAL refresh rate and all. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to seeing what the community has to offer, and what I can offer back to it.
I wish Kumatora was my waifu </3
Hey everybody, I'm IrrationalX (or GamesAndUs, if you go by my Twitter handle) and I'm currently learning how to speedrun Donkey Kong Country 3 after seeing MorKs play it at AGDQ2014. I've been interested in speedgaming since a bit after SGDQ2013, when I spent weeks watching a large number of the archived stuff from previous GDQs. I hope to become a part of what seems to be a wonderful community!
Hi all, I go by jhelssen, real name is James; living in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area).

I recall seeing a Dragon Warrior segmented run on YouTube forever ago but what really got me interested in the community was AGDQ 2012; I've been a lurker ever since.

I was a huge JRPG fan growing up, and still am, (during a job interview I was once asked what my favorite game was - with no hesitation I said FF3 US/FF6 JPN) seeing the games being run by Essentia and Puwexil just blew my mind.  At that point it was like getting lost in Wikipedia watching so many awesome streamers.  I'm still trying to pick my eyeballs off the floor from Feasel's Zleda 2 runs.

The announcement of the RPG Limit Break marathon pushed me to 'officially' join.  I hope to be able to fly in and attend the event in person but even if that isn't possible I'm planning to donate a prize or find some way to contribute to the success of the marathon even if only in a really small way.

Nice to meet you all,

-james

PS- I did get that job where I answered with FF3 US/FF6 JPN  Smiley

Descent Speedrunner
Hi there, My name is Derek Justis know as “Justis” on Twitch.tv. I speedrun a game called Descent for the PC. Let me tell you what Descent is. The game requires the player to navigate labyrinthine mines while fighting virus-infected robots. The player is given the clear objective to find and destroy each mine's reactor core and escape before the mine is destroyed by the meltdown. To obtain access to the reactor, the player must collect the blue, yellow, and red access keys for each location. As an optional objective, the player can also choose to rescue PTMC workers that were taken hostage by the infected robots.
Descent features a complementary points system. Players can score points by destroying enemy robots, picking up power-ups, and detonating the reactor. Bonus points are awarded on completion of each level. These bonus points are based on the player's shield and energy count, the skill level played, and a combination of picking up any hostages and safely rescuing them.
Descent features 30 levels, three of which are secret levels. Each level was based in a mine located in various locations in the solar system. The first three levels begin on the Moon, the next two on Venus, and two more on Mercury. The seventh level features the game's first boss rather than a reactor, and was the last level of the shareware (Thats why people wanna race or Speedrun Levels 1-7 cause some people dont have the Full game, so they call it a Sprint run). In the full version, the player moves on through twenty more mines in an outward pattern from Earth: Mars, Io, Callisto, Ganymede, Europa, Titan, Hyperion, Tethys, Miranda, Oberon, Neptune, Triton, Nereid, Pluto, and the final level and boss fight on Charon. (I hyperlinked the names of these moons and planets, some pretty cool info about them) The player accesses the three secret levels located in the Asteroid Belt using alternative exit doors hidden in specific levels.
I've been speedrunning Descent for about 8 months now but, I've been playing the game God knows how long. Since I started watching CosmoWright, Siglemic, Trihex, and many other speedrunners. I said to myself why dont I start speedrunning the game I'm pretty decent at.....Descent lol. Anyways, I've practice and practice and steadying the levels.
I'm honored to be member on your site Smiley Now all I got to do now is get people into the game and start racing it too Smiley

Troy: 2014-08-28 12:19:43 pm
Hi my name is Troy,

I was just introduced to Speedrunning last year when I came across Cosmo Wright's any% Speedrun of Ocarina of Time at AGDQ 2013. Fascinated by this, I wanted to know more about the Speedrunning community.
I'm 18 years old, and am currently learning the routes for many Zelda Titles I Love such as The Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and many more. Action, Adventure, and Puzzles have always been my thing. While I am
Collecting equipment to begin and improve my channel and Stream, I am practicing and researching new strategies and techniques to hopefully in time, get good times in the Any% Categories.
