I'm far to much of a perfectionist/completist to ever really consider speed running, but who knows?  Maybe later on down the line I'll give it a go.

Well, to speedrun a game properly you have to know it perfectly, so you being like that is an advantage if anything.
Hello everyone at SDA! My name is Darthanien (not officially... yet..). I've been visiting this site for maybe.. two or so years now, love the videos and all the hard work you guys put in to them. The marathon recently took the cake for me though so I've decided I just had to get more involved with the community here.

I'd also like to help out in ways that I could possibly help out. The marathon has gotten me interested in making perlers, so depending on how that goes, I may be able to donate a bunch for next year's marathon, and maybe raise the money I need to get my Wii repaired in the process.

I'm not nearly good enough to speedrun games like you guys do, but I wouldn't mind verifying any that I'm familiar with as well.

If there's any other ways I may be able to help out, or if anyone has any suggestions for perlers I should make, please feel free to PM me.

Seconded. It's actually difficult to make a good run unless you have patience (completionism) and relentless standards of quality (perfectionism).
Hi! I'm andrewg!

Definitely. This is essentially the key to good speedruns.

I also agree that these are actually the qualities you need (or are very handy?) for speedrunning.

So saying speedrunning wouldn't work because you had those 'trademarks' sounds rather funny and weird to my ear.

And thus why it takes SOOOOOOO long to get a really good one.
Hey, I'm Xevil, real name is John, I for some reason enjoy watching speedruns, no idea why, But i've been watching/lurking for a while now

I used to think running RE4 in 3 hours was fast, boy was I wrong, although, it was 7x faster than my 21 hour original playthrough

oh how I wish i could forget everything I know about games, and play them for the first time again, I think I just started to ramble on, lol
Hi my name is Oscar, but everyone call me osed (from the first 2 letters of my first name and the second name which is Eduardo) I found SDA last year and I became a big fan of speedruns, i hope I can make one myself and i actually start making one of metroid other m, but the quality of the video its not very good so I should start from that first xD. My favorite games are Zelda, Metroid and Final Fantasy, but i also into FPS games.
hi everybody i just scored! with a chick and she still even here too!

i told my parents after as well..
This is an introduce yourself to the site topic, not an "I just got laid and need to tell everyone" topic.

/facepalm

Yup, this crosses the line.  You've had your last warning and you blew it.  You're banned now.

Howdy!
My name is Nick Iannone, I'm a Software Engineering student at MSOE in Milwaukee, WI, and I'm aspiring to enter the field of video game development. I was first introduced to SDA during the Awesome Games Done Quick marathon in 2011. A lot of my college friends were watching it, and I have always harbored a secret love of watching people play through video games much faster than I could ever do. I donated my entire checking account, and walked away with almost no sleep, and a box copy of Link to the Past, for my troubles. I got to speak with Notch, and with the Senior Programmer for the Metroid Prime series. I made a lot of new friends, and lost a lot of life to it, and I don't regret it at all. I can see my relationship with SDA becoming a very beautiful thing in the years to come.
1-Up!
I remember you specifically from my time in the donation chair.  Welcome to SDA!
Hey SDA

I found out about the site during your latest marathon, and I loved everything I saw.  I've never done a serious speedrun, but just watching the livestream made it look like this site has a great community and has a lot of fun.  I look forward to seeing more runs in the future.
Hello SDA,
I'm klmera from Germany and I'm interested in tactical turned based and role playing games on the PC. I like watching speed runs to learn some new tricks and also to have a good time. Some of you guys are really amazing! For example the Baldurs Gate run of Smilge, Julien Langer, Beenman500 and the Morrowind run of Pendrokar. In the near future I would like to lurk a bit longer to get to know the rules of this place a bit better. After some time I would like to introduce you to my special speed run project to also catapult me into the heavens of e-gaming. Oh and in real live I'm perfectly happy with pretending to be a boring and normal software engineer. Although if this doesn't work out all the time...
"That's right. Human bean juice."
I'm Jake, the gamer formerly known as JACOB3AN (pronounced Jack-oh-bean). Though I can't remember how I got here, I've been watching SDA runs since 2009, and after watching at least a quarter of all of them, I figured it was my turn to give back to the community.

Luckily I'm a student, studying music technology, so I have lots of time to invest into speed-running. Which I, no doubt, will need over the years. I've never done a speed-run before, and until I found this website, I never thought of games in that way. But hopefully, given time, I can change things pretty soon.

Right now I'm working on a bad ending, segmented run of Exhumed (Powerslave in the US) on the Sega Saturn. I noticed there was a distinct lack of runs for saturn-exclusive games, so I figured I'd fix that ;-)
Waiting hurts my soul...
I'm working on fixing it as well. I have a number of Saturn only games that I could potentially run with infinite time. Over the years, I'll definitely be adding to the mix more.
Long time lurker here. After the marathon, I decided it was time to register but didn't post so I think my account got deleted.
So, here I am, posting to keep my account active and actually become part of this great community. Grin
I'm not really a good speedrunner but I keep practising when I have the time. Hopefully, I'll be as good as many of you are.

I know it's a bit late but thanks to everyone that was involved in the marathon... You kept me stuck to my PC for days and I really enjoyed defeating cancer Wink

Never too late. And thanks
SS Any% FF2 GBA
Hey guys, my name is Glenn and I wanted to introduce myself since I'm now working on my first speedrun. I was very impressed by all the great skill that was demonstrated at the Marathon that it encouraged me to try one myself.
Any advice you guys would give me is much appreciated. Feel free to PM me anytime.
I'm currently working on SS FF2 GBA
Hi, I'm Mike, and I registered about a year ago and didn't post until a couple weeks back. Smiley With the marathon and having come into a load more free time, I felt like going into speedruns.

Current targets are a Cave Story 100% SS, and possibly, if I get around to it, I intend to beat Tompa's Oracle of Seasons run. Also potentially single segment. We'll see how that goes.
Lv. 2 Commoner
Oh, hi. Another member of the 'long-time lurker' post-marathon registration commission here.
That said, I'm terribly bad at video games. The odds of me actually contributing much are, ah, slim. But that hasn't stopped me from chattering on and on about anything else in any other site on the Internet, so... well.
Maybe I could be part of the Moral Support Provision Squad or something...
May as well introduce myself:

My name's Raen (real name: Ian), and I like video games. Duh. I've know of SDA for a few years, I think, and I've had an account for a year or so, but have only just started trying to do serious speedruns, and to coincide with that, I've only just started posting. I'm currently working on an LBP2 run, and would love to try some other games (but I have no idea what).

As I said, I like video games and have been playing them for basically all my life. It started with the Genesis, and it never stopped. My favorite types of game are action/adventure, such as Legend of Zelda and Kingdom Hearts. Both those game are in my top 3 favorite game series; number 3 is Pokemon. I play plenty of other games as well, and have quite a few favorites, including Portal, Katamari Damacy, and Halo (the series in general), just to name a few that aren't part of the top 3 series I mentioned. I'm also quite a music fan, although most of what I listen to is weird experimental metal/rock, such as Isis, Rosetta, Cult of Luna, Cloud Cult, and Radiohead (yes, the last one is obscure like many of the other). I actually hope to go into music/audio production/design for games, so we'll see how that goes.

I have done a bit of speedrunning in the past, albeit casually. I'm particularly good at Wind Waker and Minish Cap from the Zelda series, the series I've done the most casual speedrunning of.
Hello, all. My name's Travis and I've been coming to SDA for a very long time and figured it's about time I signed up and joined the forum chat.

I've been a gamer ever since I can remember, starting in '85 when I got my first system (2600). I'd love to actually contribute a run some day, but I'd really have no clue where to start. I'm hoping to have some great conversations here. See you all on the boards =)
