Hey all, obligatory introductory post!

I was playing some old games the other night, namely my favorite game Super Mario 64. I finally broke 20 minutes and thought about any other games that I could speedrun, and realized that I didn't really know how to speedrun any other games! I've been a long time viewer of the videos and streams on SDA as well as other places, and am finally taking it upon myself to learn some new games.

I'm thinking about starting on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as it looks very fun to run. I'm sure this question has been posted somewhere before, but is any of you guys have any suggestions of fun, short games that are good intros to the art of speedrunning that would be great Smiley
My favourite games to speedrun are A Link to the Past and Super Mario World - both can have long or short goals. Other popular games are OoT, SotN, Super Metroid, and many others. It depends what you enjoy I guess, as that's the most important thing!
SotN is not too hard to get into. There is lot of us hanging around that are willing to help on these forums and on the srl/sda irc chats. Wink
Hi, my name's Cheese. I'm an artist and a Linux gamer.

I made an account to participate in the Trine 2 speedrun competition Smiley
Sounds like Maverick talk to me.

I joined the SDA Forums this January during Awesome Games Done Quick 2012, I have fallen in love with this community of gamers and their cause. So at the moment i'm trying to pick what games i really would love speedruning anytime soon. I also have to give thanks to the speedrunners who got me into this

Breakdown, UltraJMan, Tri-hex, Romscout, Tompa, Mike Uyama, Mike89, Cyghfer, Cosmo, Runnerguy2489 and so many more.
Hey everyone, I've finally decided to go from long time lurker to active speedrunner.  Now I am not even remotely close to ready to start putting out runs, but I am planning on trying to run Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for my first game.  If anyone has advice on finding glitches, or speedrunning in general please let me know!  Looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing more amazing runs!

Sup with it? My name's Martyr, as you would be able to tell if you'd read my name a few inches to the left. My real name's Joe, and I've been lurking on SDA and associated sites for a year and a half/2 years now. I originally started watching the runs hosted on here, then I watched CGDQ 2011 I think it was, and that got me hooked on the live streams. I've done a few test runs of my particular games which are SMW and LTTP. On LTTP my 100% time is 2:14:41. SMW, I don't think I have splits finished yet. You might have seen me streaming over on SRL, maybe not. I would really like to try to get good at Any% LTTP so I can overtake the current record holder. Apart from that, I'm just an average guy aged 22 currently, working for the first time in 3 years now. I'm happy with where I'm at, although there are of course many improvements I could make in my life. Ok, this is getting too long, so Ima stop now. Talk to me or watch my stream if you like. http://www.twitch.tv/martyr609
SM64 Speedrunner
Hello I am Entotrte, I am a SM64 speedrunner,I've been watching SDA runs since 2010,but never got around to making an account. It's a pleasure to be here Smiley
Hello, I am UnixAssassin leader of <TFW> and I have just joined SDA. My first speedrun I'll be submitting will be of Metroid: Zero Mission for the GBA in 1 Segment.
Hi!  I've been a lurker at SDA since 2008, and I finally decided to make an account after watching all of the last AGDQ and seeing what a cool community is here.  I've been playing Battle Kid regularly for the last few weeks and will probably resurrect one of the threads about this awesome platformer that hasn't gotten a lot of speedrunning attention.

Professionally, I've worked the last six years or so as a lead programmer at Harmonix, and more recently I decided to start making my own independent title and cutting back on the amount of time with a "real job".  My dream is to make a game worthy of being speedrun by the people here.  You know, like Sub-Terrania Wink
Hockey enthusiast
Hi there!

My name is Fredrik. I started speedrunning Mega Man X way back when, 2003-2004. At that time I was spending alot of time on the swedish gaming community GON and met a Mega Man collector called Hir0 who first sparked my interest in speedrunning. While I wasn't ever really good at the game I enjoyed playing through the first 8 bosses with decent consistency.

Not too long after World of Warcraft was released. (Febuary 2005 in Europe) and I was hooked. I never enjoyed the PvP-content so my focus was 100% on PvE and theorycrafting. I was playing a priest and what drew me further into the game was to master and exploit what was then known as the "5-second-rule" which as far as I know that does not exist anymore. I quit the game prior to the first expansion pack  because I felt cheated when all progress would be reseted.

At this point I started studying at a University and did spend as much time as before playing video games. Though collecting video games was still a big interest of mine.

Little by little the interest for video games came crawling back. I became a frequent viewer of gaming podcasts (IW, Epic Battle Cry, Bonus Round). During this peroid I was living alone and without any interest at all in dating, which ment me always falling asleep to either a randomly chosen speedrun from SDA and later on live gaming streams.

The turning point. January 2011.
My girlfriend went on a two week vacation to Sri Lanka and I was left with alot of time on my hand. So I started playing though some old games. After playing World of Illusion I remembered a two-player TAS of the game, but I wanted to view a singel-player run. Which I couldn't find! For a while I was confused when discovering that most Disney classics had either a real speedrun or a TAS. But not World of Illusion.
I kept playing, improving little by little. And finally managed a 16.07 run which I concidered awesome. Time went and the game was forgotten untill late summer when I again had some time to play games.

Aaaaaanyways! I'm still running and most of all enjoying running.
oh yea

Awesome! I used to play the hell out of Rock Band. And mentioning wanting to make a game like Sub-Terrania, I think you've come to the right place. Smiley

Hello I'm Grimskallen and I'm a speedrunaholic...
I have been playing video games actively since just a young kid, and I've always been fascinated with speedruns, and I remember speedrunning way back when Donkey Kong Country was first released. My greatest interest is in older games or retro games (such as a lot of indie games these days)
I hope to make my contribution to this site soon, just waiting for the opportunity where I have time on my hands.
The name's Chase and I've been watching runs on SDA for quite a few years now. It's been quite some time since I've actually tried to speedrun anything, but that's going to change very soon. I'm planning on running something (have a few ideas in mind, and one's not on the site as far as I can tell...) and I plan on kicking back with the great community here.
Hi guys, I'm Glozboy.

I’ve been lurking on the boards since 2005 and thought it was time I started contributing something.

I first got into speedrunning in 2004 when I was at Uni and was looking for a site on Goldeneye. This led me to the Goldeneye / Perfect Dark Elite website. I played those games for a while before moving onto the Mario Kart series.

I discovered the SDA website from a link on the Goldeneye website. There was a story on the front page about Ocarina of Time being beaten in under 5hrs. I was blown away and downloaded the video, then was even more blown away after watching it. I was pretty much hooked after that.

I play mostly old-school games (N64 in particular), trying to find a game I can get to a high enough level on to attempt a speedrun. My best run so far is a “+5 Boss” (completing the child dungeons, then Shadow and Spirit Temples) segmented run of Ocarina of Time in 3h 53mins, although I’m in the process of dramatically lowering this.

I’m also considering attempting a Talespin run on the Mega Drive at some point.
Hey, I'm ferrari.  I've been into speed running for a long time, and from what I remember I was trying really hard to beat the Mega Man X^2 run on the site being close to as a minute from the other time.  A minute is a long time, but I'm just saying that I tried pretty damn hard to beat that run lol

I'm a hardcore gamer and collector.  I collect all around the consoles including Nintendo and Sega mostly.
Hey everyone, long time lurker here at SDA.  I've been a fan of speed runs and this site in general for quite some time, but never had a reason to sign up for the forums.  Been really watching a lot of the streams as of lately, as I'm not able to always play games, so I definitely enjoy the next best thing: watching them being played!  I finally decided to sign up for the site, as I'm working on actually learning to run some games, as well as seeing if it is possible to do a single segment run of Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Hey guys, I've been a member of Speedrunslive casually racing games like Mario 64.  I really think livestreaming not only racing, but record attempts is a lot of fun to do and watch, and has really increased my interest in speedrunning on the whole.  I've learned so many tricks, seen heartbreaking deaths and tremendous triumphants by runners popular and obscure.  It never gets old.

I finally decided to register here, because I've been speedrunning MegaMan Legends on emulator and (believe to have) beat the current run.  I managed to snag an original copy of the game and repaired my PS2 and will be trying to record a run of good enough quality for SDA.
IT'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!
Hi everyone, I'm new here (obviously) and I have watched a bunch of SDA's events on youtube. I think what they do is awesome and I can't wait until "Summer Games Done Quick 2012". It will be my first marathon I will watch and I'm sure it will be awesome.

Hi Smiley
I'm speed running Resident Evil 2 (the PAL version at the moment, and the NTSC version soon hopefully) and trying to immortalize my ass on the archives ;P I also got a stream on twitch.tv where I practice from time to time (http://twitch.tv/gamerlicious -- if you wanna check it out) and where I will attempt for the records here on SDA soon -maybe (not sure about the rules for an actual attempt yet ^^).
..best regards, hansi
