My name is Justin Groton (obviously?). I am from Ocean City, MD. I've played video games for longer than I could walk. Games are pretty much my only hobby.
I got into speed running games god knows how long ago. I have nothing recorded, unfortunately :(.
I am also into competitive fighting games. Mostly SF4, Melty Blood, and 3rd Strike. I play Rufus in SF4, they got it backwards.
As far as runs go, I am going to be working on a SS Cave Story (Wii) run, and eventually a segmented Metroid: Other M run.
not really thats where it was started cause the great dictator uyama did not give us the password at first to the marathon ustream. so I used mine until we got the password then it swapped. so thats my ustream account...
I'm Adam "puwexil" Dunn from the Iowa/Wisconsin area in the US; and I found out about SDA in 2005 from a FAQ for Metal Gear Solid 3 that had been written by one of the then-published MGS3 runners. Over the years since then, I've gradually gotten more involved in the SDA community, starting with just coming to the website and watching the videos, then lurking the forums/IRC, then hanging out in runners' UStream channels to learn/discuss strats, and then starting to work on my own runs of a few of my favorite games (just for casual fun at this point, though if Illusion of Gaia goes well enough I may invest in recording equipment later this year so that I can submit it).
My absolute favorite types of games are adventure/RPG games that require strategy and planning to complete, rather than just equipping your strongest weapons/abilities and mashing the attack button; and what's drawn me to speedrunning is that it's about setting a goal for games that forces the player to innovate and optimize strategies in order to get faster times.
Hey guys! I've been going to the site for quite a while and finally decided to register on the forums after watching Carcinogen speedrun the RE games last night at Magfest9. (If you're reading this, yeah, I was that guy who watched you for three or four hours) I haven't tried a speed run yet, but I'm going to start to work on single segment MGS3 and DMC3 runs since those are my two favorite games of all time.
Hey man, welcome aboard. Sorry I never really properly introduced myself, but it was definitely awesome that you had the patience to stick it out watching me practice the beginning dodges in RE2 over and over again.
If you have any questions about anything at all, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.
Hi! My name is Nick. I've known about SDA for a long time now, but I never bothered registering until now. I don't really speedrun games much, but watching the AGDQ marathon (and going back to watch vids from CGDQ) got me more interested. I mainly play Rock Band, Zelda, Resident Evil, Mass Effect, and a couple other games. I don't know if I'm good enough to have a speedrun of mine posted on the site, but I can try.
I do have an idea for a run that may not be very conventional (and may be controversial). I know that rhythm games are generally disallowed, but I believe that Rock Band 3's Road Challenges can be done much faster than normal. There is an exploit in the system which allows you to choose any song regardless of restrictions for the "Choose X songs that fall into Y category" options. The way that this constitutes a speedrun is that it allows you to pick the shortest X songs in the game (and DLC if allowed). Some of the DLC songs barely break the 1 minute mark, so having to play through 100 songs, it would only take 100 minutes + loading screens and menus. Since most songs that you would get are an average of 3 minutes, you would be saving around 3 hours of gameplay (again, these are all estimates). I don't know where the best place to pitch this idea is, but if someone could lead me in the right direction, that would be great.
Hey guys, my name is Dusty. I've looked around on here for a few years now watching videos and marveling at the skill of those who made them. I've never really tried speed running personally as I am an OCD gamer (get everything, max levels, beat everything, etc....), but the process does intrigue me. I finally decided to join up in the thoughts of eventually trying some myself or placing some bounties for ones I'd like to see.
I'm new here, video games are pretty cool and stuff. Big fan of Wouter's 13 hour Donkey Kong 64 speedrun. Quite possibly one of the best runs I've ever seen. I hope to one day play at his level.
So, my girlfriend introduced me to this site about a year and a half ago, and have been hooked ever since! We've watched both SDA marathons and are pretty big fans of Essentia in particular, though pretty much everyone who played in the marathons impressed the heck out of me. Anyway, I thought about signing up for a while and just decided to go ahead and do it, so here I am!
I'm not much of a speed gamer, but I do have some perfect runs of certain Mega Man stages on my Youtube channel. I'm a pretty big fan of Roahm Mythril and he inspired me to give the perfect runs a try. I'm far to much of a perfectionist/completist to ever really consider speed running, but who knows? Maybe later on down the line I'll give it a go.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more incredible speed runs and checking this place out a bit.
I've known this site for quite a long time. When I found out about the yearly marathons you guys do for charity, I decided to join the community (will definitely donate next marathon). I hope to have my very own speedrun done one day.
