This is great.
Although I think you used your saves in a wrong way, cuts a lot of speech, I wouldn't had done it this way.
You are right, in few moments the sound is mixing from 2 segments, but I can`t do nothing for it. I hope tomorrow the Mars City will be able on yt.

Quote from Ry4n:
You can`t kill that chainsaw zobie with 1-shot from shotgun. killing from other weapon shouldn`t be faster than 2 shots from shotgun?

Killing it with 1 shot from the shotgun is very possible, it just requires an insane amount of luck, and once again the save penalty prevents me from just throwing more segments at the problem. I can whip out the BFG and blow him away, but I only have 1 shot left in that thing and it's better used elsewhere. I can't get more ammo for the BFG until I hit the Delta Labs.

ok. Maybe you should shoot him in the head with chaingun (if you have)? It`s powerful weapon and fast.
TIOLET!
The fastest weapons to kill him with are soul cube (already used on the first chainsaw guy), BFG and shotgun. Everything else is slower than those 3. While chaingun has a high theoretical dps it has a long rev-up time before it even starts to shoot, it's also somewhat inaccurate when going for headshots... and I also don't have it Tongue
So it`s a problem. Did you try to kill 2nd zombie with chainsaw? :p I was playing and I remember that weapon could kill that zombie in 1 sec (i was playing on nightmare).
TIOLET!
Then we run into the problem of slow weapon switching. Before I can even start using the chainsaw I've already got 1 shot off on the guy with the shotgun.
This is that room when you are getting pda? Do you habve a lot of hp? Maybe grenade? Hide behind corner and throw a grenade to enemy?
TIOLET!
I've tried fooling around with grenades in there, but even a well-placed grenade won't kill a chainsaw zombie on its own. However, now that I'm thinking about it, there might be another way of doing that room more consistently without changing the weapons involved.
we have lift off

Just to say that I haven't played doom 3, but Ry4n's runs are very close to your times even with the save penalty and he's used a ton of segments. I know he has implemented some shortcuts, but it looks like using a few segments would save time overall. I just find it hard to believe that the optimal is 1 segment, when 18 segments gives a very similar time.

You also have to take into consideration that he hasn't hit the hard levels yet, and it wasn't until Administration I started getting really picky with my attempts and times. Once he reaches Alpha Labs I predict that the save penalty will start costing him more and more seconds. In the case of the 1-shot though the extra time it saves is pretty much nullified by a single extra save. I do have a few really short segments where I think it's justified to have it, like the Alpha Labs 2 rail drop.

That being said, my altered strategy for the PDA room proved successful right away, already pulled off 2 1-shots. For this recorded attempt the time is actually slower than my best 2-shot time, but that's because cacodemons blocked the door again, and I also got stuck on the stairs leading up to the locked door.

Edit: I also want to say that I'm by no means pissed off that my run is getting challenged, if anything this will be highly beneficial for both runs once Ry4n catches up to where I am in the game. My biggest problem with this run is that I've had no one to exchange good ideas with, which clearly shows itself in Mars City and Mars City Underground.

Damn kibbo you got the segment down now?!? Cheesy

I don't have a final run yet. I still have to deal with random enemy movements blocking the door and the wraith not dying, as well as me failing to hit the button to unlock the locked door, and the soul cube is more likely to go for another target since I'm further away from the first chainsaw zombie.

Typical result with old method: aprox. 200 attempts would give a total 2 successful one-shots. This is on a good day. Most of the time there would be days of attempting without a single one-shot.
Typical result with new method: I manage a one-shot every 10 attempts or so.

Also, to show how important it is for this run that interested people help me with difficult tricks and ways to improve on segments.
groobo: "ladder dance" in Mars City Underground, pretty much saved me from having to replay the entire level.
TheVoid: finding out how to make barrel boosts work on Nightmare difficulty, saved about 20 seconds in Alpha Labs 3.
That guy from Australia which I can't remember the name of: getting the BFG-9000 in Alpha Labs 3, saves time in various places throughout the run.

And I'm sure Ry4n will add a lot of things to this list. So can YOU! (cheesy, I know)
Yes, Inexistence is a word.
Even ME? :O

Go go go with the run! I've been a silent watcher, but everyone loves knowing that some people are there. I do recall being in one of the streams when you were working on the route, though.

GO GO GO!

Yes, the only requirement I have is that you put up a video as proof that something actually works, or take a screenshot where you show off pr0 paint skillz of what you're suggesting. It's very easy for me to start going into tunnel vision once I find something that works, so it's a huge aid if people can show me other tunnels.

I also want to clarify on my earlier reply to this. Right now it's a total of Ry4n's 25 segments vs my 5 segments for the first 2 levels. The thing is that I can go back and redo level 1 and easily match his time using 1 segment. I'm also very confident that I can get close to 4:16 in level 2 using all the tricks he's using but keep the level to 5 segments. The difference is that back when I did these levels I couldn't get rail jumping to work properly, I kept getting stuck in one way or another when trying to jump on them. Too bad no one showed me how to do proper rail jumping back then, because now it's too late to redo level 2.

Edit: Basically the only thing you achieve by doing the run in so many segments is reducing the amount of effort needed for progress.

I was sure you knew about the rail boost thing Kib, I should have point that out back in 2008.
Play with the ID tech 4 engine a bit, sometimes it's crazy what you can do Smiley
I'm a start searching for things again on this game, I need a break from that fuckin TAS community.

EDIT: I just did a small scouting of the level and the only thing I found was an obvious one.

EDIT: Where's the attachment button? I can't find it anymore!
.
You can't attach things to edits, you'll need to make a new post.
Wow! That looks awesome. I wasn`t expecting you`ll kill hin in one shot. Really Wink
Kibbo is little reason, for that moment the levels are easy and did`t required a lot of attempts. But I`m trying and (If someone would just think) I don`t want to 'destroy' his job and times, because we are running in other categories. For example, I have serious doubts for barell boosting.

ps: I found shotgun boosting. It works similar to barell boosting but it works, when you will be shot from enemy. I know you know that, but I`m trying to find a shortcut with this thing.
Mars City Revisited - ) only 0.7 sec faster, I don`t know why :P.

I wasted ammo for shotgun in the end sorry Sad
Ok, I improved last segment. I have more hp and ammo and it`s quicker!

I don`t remember that levels, but looks good.
ps: I made a mod. It`s modified Doom - True Survival, but much harder. 1hp, 0 armor, minimal ammo Wink anyone want download?
