hmmm, is it like when you press F9 to reload, but instead of reloading the level you are playing it reloads another level? If so it happens to me all the god damn time.
it loads mars city or underground all the time, no other level.

I don't know what is F9 for you... if it is just to load a quicksave, then it load the quicksave^^
(I think it was F6 for me)
F9 was taken by Fraps...

AS for the bug, I'm not sure but I think it happened already for me. But these kinf of glitches are totally uninteresting for me, in every kind of speedrunning, just type noclip and finish the game that would have done the same  Roll Eyes

Anyway, this is still a curious bug.

Yeah, F6 sorry, but it doesn't load a quicksave in my case, it load the next level if im in the 1st level.

No it's not like quicksaves or noclipping at all. You somehow make the game load the "wrong version" of Mars City, you can probably make it work the other way around, so you warp from level 3 to level 1.

No you don't understand my meaning kib, I said that it has no interest for me to use this kind of bug, that's like using noclip, there is no speedrun if you can skip entire levels, you don't play even the game...

That is my opinion though.

Yeah, if you can skip levels in a game for a speedrun, then do so. If it saves time of course which in this case, because of the Soul Cube, it wouldn't.

We don't have to discuss this anymore anyway. Mike has already said that the glitch isn't allowed in SDA runs due to the weird behaviour of it, so it doesn't matter if it saves time or not.

speedrunning!=playing the game

yes it is  >:(, as fast as you can...

fortunately, this bug isn't allowed.

Playing the game: Use the intended route, no shortcuts or tricks allowed. Not SDA material.

Speedrunning the game: Break, optimize it as much as you possibly can to achieve a kickass time. With the only limit being SDA's rules (if you do a run for SDA). This is SDA material.

yes you're right but there is a gap between use shortcut with the physical and the engine of the game, during the game, and skip levels by glitches making the speedrun bad to watch in my eyes...
A speedrun show to people the skill of players who can do these incredible achievement!
With shortcuts, you still play the game, and use your skill to do some extra stuff, with skipping, you just watch a tv and all people can use that...

Sorry kib, I won't change this meaning about speedrunning I think^^

there's also a gap between spedrunning with and without bunnyhopping for example... not the same kind of gap, but still a huge one.
of course speedrunning is mostly done to impress|entertain viewers and a runner (hope you enjoy these thousands of retries =p )... in that sense skipping a couple of levels with not very impressively looking glitch is not so good, but what can you do if in the end the record will be held by the fastest...
in this particular case (if this glitch was reproducable everywhere of course), i'd suggest to include an additional video of running skipped levels after the main run. =)

Ok, so it hasn't been much speedrunning this week because I've been quite busy. Lots of work and training making me too tired for doing any serious running, and it doesn't look too good next week either since I'm already booked for work 4 days.

At least there is some light in the dark, sometime next month I will get a new system. Sporting a quad core CPU, 2GB of DDR2 and a 8800GT which will turn into 2 8800GT in SLI a month or so later. This should allow me to record Doom 3 at 60 fps, giving me smoother videos and gameplay. Final video will still be 30 fps since that's what the run up until now is recorded with.

PS. Expect a new Quake 4 run fully recorded in 60 fps as well in the future Wink
