Hey, wanted to make people aware of this so staff and attendees can hopefully avoid this if the same hotel is used again... my debit card was charged $945 extra for the room, I'm currently communicating with the hotel and my bank to get this corrected.  My balance is negative as a result, thankfully this happened in the middle of the month rather than just before my rent is due.

If you were expecting to split the room costs with other people double check with your roommates that they were charged the correct amount, it's very possible they didn't split the final bill up correctly.

The best thing to do is to call the hotel directly. They'll be able to look over the bill and tell you what happened.

Also, pro-tip...never use a debit card at either hotels (at least at check-in) or gas stations because unlike grocery stores and such, they use estimate authorizations instead of being able to do exact amounts.

Depending on the hotel, they may not take cash at check-in. At some of the places I work at, they won't take at check-in, just at check-out.  Best thing to do is to use a credit card at check-in, then pay with a debit card (or cash, if they allow) at check-out.

Room splits are always a weird thing to deal with, and it's not done often. It's best to work with the hotel directly right now, but in the future, just talking with them at check-out prevents a lot of issues. Especially in weird instances like doing a 2, 3, or 4 way room split.

Also the hotel hung up on me when I called them back today.  Not disconnected, actually heard a clear handset-colliding-with-cradle noise.

I talked to a manager today and they said the money has been released, so tomorrow I will be checking with my bank, and if things still aren't resolved, checking back with the hotel, and possibly taking measures from there.

Okay, I might be out of the deeper part of the woods finally.

I started the dispute process through my bank, and told the guy who reserved the room I stayed in; he called them, and found out the Hilton financial office SCREWED UP THE REFUND.  They debited his card but failed to credit my card.  So now they've told him it will be fixed by Friday.

This is what I get for sitting next to PJ during the marathon finale.  Bet their elevators no longer stop on the floor I stayed on.
