Just incase anybody is wondering, no, poCari is not taking on another project. I don't even have XP yet, so I can't record anything (unless there's a badass recording program for Win98 out there), so I won't boast on about any PC speedrun for awhile.
But still, I play a lot of Half-Life. I've been keeping up with my "Unseen Frontier" demo files (some of which are quite crazy thus far), then all of a sudden I switched to the hazard course. I found a couple new "goodies" as it were that could easily bring the current HCourse time sub 3. For instance:
- Once you get to the area where you must "duck jump" through the pipes, there's a trick there that cuts off a bunch of seconds. Jump slightly into the first pipe so the light blinks, then jump back out. Then you may proceed to do a crouch jump on the side of the pipe, and jump right through the second pipe. You can do the trick for the first pipe on the last pipe as well, but I don't think that would save any notable time if you're good enough at running through the things.
- You can start a strafe jumping session all the way from the door to the end of the jumping course, all the way to the long jump. Once you long jump over the gap, keep up your speed, which isn't that hard.
- The long jump off the button over the fence can be improved. If you land right on the fence, you can use the long jump again, propelling you farther towards the door.
- Once you get to the health charger, I know there's a way to open the door up immediately. I've only ever done it once before, and I don't know how I did it, which is infuriating to say the least. But if someone could figure out how to do it, if it even is possible and I'm not just imagining this, that would be amazing.
- Once you collect the crow bar, you can long jump ontop of both of those large boxes right to the vent grate.
- Now for the health chargers, I would suggest taking a lot more than just 2 for the jump over the fence. You can take as much as you want, and you can still get over that fence. It's a little difficult to space out these damage hops though. Do one over the fence, then do the long jump over those two fences in the water area. Once you pop out of the water, it's possible to pull off another explosion hop through that window to the HEV charger. Problem is, if you do happen to do this, you need to go back on the little platform to advance. And if you don't have enough health, you'll either die in that damage area, and you won't be able to do the long jumps down the electric rail to the end. It's a trick theory which would save seconds, but I just don't know.
After that it's pretty straight forward until the end. Those are my little "goodies" for the hazard course. If anyone is interested in improving the current time, these would help. Also, if anyone is interested in seeing "Unseen Heights" demo files, or weird glitch demos, just ask away. Woot, advertisement
