Just incase anybody is wondering, no, poCari is not taking on another project. I don't even have XP yet, so I can't record anything (unless there's a badass recording program for Win98 out there), so I won't boast on about any PC speedrun for awhile.

But still, I play a lot of Half-Life. I've been keeping up with my "Unseen Frontier" demo files (some of which are quite crazy thus far), then all of a sudden I switched to the hazard course. I found a couple new "goodies" as it were that could easily bring the current HCourse time sub 3. For instance:

- Once you get to the area where you must "duck jump" through the pipes, there's a trick there that cuts off a bunch of seconds. Jump slightly into the first pipe so the light blinks, then jump back out. Then you may proceed to do a crouch jump on the side of the pipe, and jump right through the second pipe. You can do the trick for the first pipe on the last pipe as well, but I don't think that would save any notable time if you're good enough at running through the things.
- You can start a strafe jumping session all the way from the door to the end of the jumping course, all the way to the long jump. Once you long jump over the gap, keep up your speed, which isn't that hard.
- The long jump off the button over the fence can be improved. If you land right on the fence, you can use the long jump again, propelling you farther towards the door.
- Once you get to the health charger, I know there's a way to open the door up immediately. I've only ever done it once before, and I don't know how I did it, which is infuriating to say the least. But if someone could figure out how to do it, if it even is possible and I'm not just imagining this, that would be amazing.
- Once you collect the crow bar, you can long jump ontop of both of those large boxes right to the vent grate.
- Now for the health chargers, I would suggest taking a lot more than just 2 for the jump over the fence. You can take as much as you want, and you can still get over that fence. It's a little difficult to space out these damage hops though. Do one over the fence, then do the long jump over those two fences in the water area. Once you pop out of the water, it's possible to pull off another explosion hop through that window to the HEV charger. Problem is, if you do happen to do this, you need to go back on the little platform to advance. And if you don't have enough health, you'll either die in that damage area, and you won't be able to do the long jumps down the electric rail to the end. It's a trick theory which would save seconds, but I just don't know.

After that it's pretty straight forward until the end. Those are my little "goodies" for the hazard course. If anyone is interested in improving the current time, these would help. Also, if anyone is interested in seeing "Unseen Heights" demo files, or weird glitch demos, just ask away. Woot, advertisement Tongue

hi
I had a sub 3 minutes run of the HCourse, but after formating my hard disc i lost it Sad

Does the run only count if you are alive when you finish?  It is possible that the congratulations message comes on even if you are dead, so maybe not having enough health when you get there wouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, it appears anyways. I suppose if that's the case, it would be under the death abuse category.

Just played through the hazard course, couple new things. The second explosion hop does save some time, but not that much. And if you pull it off, you can in fact long jump down that area with the electric rail and still trigger the ending scene. The lady doesn't even go, "congratulations on completing the hazard course," it instantly goes black and takes you back to the main screen. Oh and a new shortcut:

Once you jump on the table that has the crowbar in it, you can long jump off that table straight through the boxes, right onto the grate Wink

Duck jumping through pipes:  Interesting, but you still can get it pretty fast if you just sail through the pipes correctly.  You even can jump directly from inside the first pipe to inside the second pipe.  I've gotten it pretty quick, but I take it a little more cautiously when doing the run.

Strafe jumping:  Interesting.  I never really got good at strafe jumping, and I would love to see it included.

LJ on the fence:  It's already in the run.  I did it, and so did Spider-Waffle in his non-bunny run.

LJ right after crowbar:  I suspect SW just messed up doing this part.  It's possibly the only place in the run I did markedly better than him; it's a tricky little part.  The way I do it is jump over on top of the big box, then uncrouch and mash the jump button, then recrouch.  You keep almost all of your speed and it's pretty reliable.

About the damage hops:  I agree there is potential for a few seconds saved here.  However I was always cutting it close on health even with the standard route, so I never tried to put another one in.  There is a way to finish the course without hopping on the rails at all.  Just hop down below the rail on the right, then at the end, LJ to the right side and kind of strafe up the slope and it will do the abrupt finish you mentioned.

Anyway, here's my old run if you want to see what I'm talking about with the crowbar-LJ and no-damage ending.

Maybe you could get the extra mortar jump in if you grabbed another armor pack.  The last one in the dark section you are supposed to use your flashlight probably wouldn't take more than half a second to grab and if the mortar jump up to the armor dispenser thingy saves more time than that (I don't know) than it could work without worrying about dying.

The damage hop I was suggesting is VERY hard to pull off, and it doesn't save too much notable time, I just tested it. You have to go right through that window, or else you're boned. Besides, you can long jump up the red railing and kind of glide up the steps, it's pretty cool. And yeah, you can do the long jumping to the right side of the electric railing. But back to the explosion hop, it may save like, 3 seconds at most if you can do it perfectly. If anyone wants to take the risk, more power to you.

Now about the extra armor charges, they really don't take too long to get. You can long jump over the table to collect two, then jump and get two more on your way out of the black maze whilst keeping your speed. You can still get over the fence even if you have 100/100 health, so it doesn't matter.

And about the strafe jumping over the three jumps, I just tried it and it's just barely possible, but quite difficult to do.

EDIT: Forgot to post this, but I discovered something else. After the area with the duck jumping, and you jump into that smaller pipe, you can jump all the way down it to the ladder. See, my jumping is set to the mousewheel, so in the loading screen I just kind of spun it down a lot, then I just jumped down the pipe.
A Crab
I always hopped down that pipe but stopped when it took a 90 degree turn.
XXY
Sometimes you can make it all the way through. It's difficult to explain, but I just roll my mousewheel like a... "mofo" and I keep jumping down the rest of the pipe. Not at the same speed as you enter the pipe of course, but still decently fast. I think you have to stick to the left and keep pressing jump and it works.

i dont know its it allow but if you wanna jump like hardcore

just try this something like this

bind "spacebar" _special +jump ( i can get the real bind when i coem back from work )

you never stop jumping just by holding spacebar
gött mos
I think you mean this alias:

alias +bunny "alias _special jump; jump"
alias -bunny "alias _special"
alias jump "special; wait; +jump; wait; -jump"
bind space "+bunny"
yeah rofl, i was at work and i dont use _Special script myself so i was gonig to ask someone in mirc for that Tongue
XXY
I can jump perfectly fine with the mousewheel..... @_@;
pompidom
I can even do it with space without alias Tongue then again, I played CS since the beta's and used it often in pubs Smiley

I have a proposition for everyone, or rather, someone. I could badly record demo files of my run through the hazard course and send them to someone so they can convert it to .avi form.... somehow. I reason I say badly recorded is because I'm running version 1.1.1.0, so the screen goes all beserk when I pass through a loading time. It'd be on the Bunny Mod too.

Why bunny mod? To my knowledge B-hopping is still possible in HL (last time I tried was just after tink.cirkle's run though)
XXY
Yeah, of course it's possible in HL. I just seem to like playing the hazard course more when I'm playing it on the Bunny Mod. Besides, I can keep up my speed better when I do my long jumps Wink

Oh well, it's all bout the fun, after all!

I can convert it too Smiley
I have 1.1.1.0 and steam, both versions Grin

That'd be cool. Man, recording just with demos is gonna be a little bit troublesome. Specifically in the pipe area. Well, I'll record as best I can anyways. Not sure if my time will be great, but we'll see. What's aggrivating is that I almost seem to go slower when I play back demos, whereas in-game I'm going like a monster. Ah well.
