Arg!  File front is being stupid today.  I got the first 10 segments yesterday and now it's just sitting at the 'contacing server' page.  I am definately liking what I am seeing so far.  Anyway, I like the HP world (read all books, seen all movies) so an improved run would be very cool to watch.  Any plans on submitting these still?

Edit:  FF seems to be working again now.

I would've submitted this... but I was so stupid that I only encoded one quality (medium) and that isn't enough (high and low required). I will be working on a improvement, but it will take a while. I've found new tricks that will help me get the time even lower, probably several minutes lower. Smiley

sarou: Cool glitch ;).

Edit: I forgot to mention that my playing in that first run was generally sloppy as well, I intend to change that in the next run.
Ahh.  I see.  Can't wait to see the new tricks.  Think maybe sub 1:30?

Yesterday I finally started running this game and finished three first segments. and today I found these awesome glitches, too bad the second one doesn't work quite as it does on 60fps. if you do it without recording harry shoots himself thru the open door there.

Block Trick

Longjump (its 5 times longer without fraps)

Originally I tried to get harry through a door/wall with the block but I noticed the block warps a bit forward sometimes when it is on your head. so I though why not try to push it thru the gate?

Hehe, the first one was awesome. Grin

I actually knew about the second one... kinda. You can do it on several places throughout the game, you know that you you can do it when you run over a spot on the floor where the textures of two areas join (or something like that). If you press jump exacly when you pass over that area you will get a superjump. Wink

Or you can stand still and type: harrysuperjump without spaces, it will have the same effect. It would probably be considered cheating in a speed run but it works great when you want to test something. Smiley

yes, that is right about the longjump or should I say superjump :p.

And just found out the block trick is frustratingly hard. I can get the left one in 1-2 tries but I've never nailed the right one under 10 tries. wonder why.

I would be interested to know what the sequence breaks are. BTW, I had to have a friend staring at my computer screen near the very end when all of the bottles move on the table. I figured it was better to have 2 pairs of eyes instead of 1 to see which one to click.

I also only did 4 segments because it's not a hard game and I wanted to at least show some skill:P

Too bad you didn't master audio compression.  Honestly, that was one of the few speedruns I've watched where I had to MUTE the volume. Tongue

Other than the scratchy audio, though, it was a good run.

You're serious?

Sorry, but calling that run good feels like stretching it.

Good isn't really streching it. I mean "great" or "best", would be streching it.

I think it is, in this case.

Ok, I read yautja saying in another thread that he would take over the run if I never finish mine. well, it's all yours then, I seriously tried to do part4 today again (after a while tho) but the pushing blocks thru walls trick is friggin annoying/random and on top of that when you are controlling a tank (harry) it makes it a whole lot annoying. also fraps was always giving me problems with this game, sometimes the fps would go down to 1-5. wonder what was with that?.

well anyway, I'll be searching for new tricks for your run yautja, if you decide to take over.

Actually I found couple already!

I skip the moving platform in the wingardium challenge, saves about 15-20seconds.

the last one isn't a timesaver but it might help somewhere.
did this thread die a long time ago or what?
i was thinking of running this after i get my game back

Speed is the key.
I have almost finished a new run of this game, it's well on it's way. Have about 6-7 segments to go.

I'm happy. I rarely like runs that aren't 100%
okay what exactly would define 100%?
I'd say all wizard cards and 250 Bertie Bott's beans so we can get the harry potter card, but does anone think we need all the house points?
this would mean getting 4/4 in all spells, all challenge stars and 82/82 rings in flying
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
100% is getting everything that leaves a notible inpact. If getting all the house points changes the ending (I remember that...at least I think I do) they will be needed
all house points doesn't change the ending... so I don't need them... thank god
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
No? Well I never got all of them. It is still possible that you will need them though. I can only guess
i practise with debug mode which enables level select, and there is definitely no advantage in collecting all the house points
I know this threat died long long ago, however: I recently found this game back... I used to love it when I was 8 and remember being able to break some parts even then, for the nostalgia I played it again and tried to find sequence breaks, and considered speed running... I found quite some tricks but someone (I believe it was Oskar Angelmark or someting like that)posted an any% run recently. Because I love this game so much(because of the nostalgia) I want to make a run of it too, and I figured that I could make a 100% one then. Since everyone here seems to know quite a lot about this game I though that some guys in here could maybe send me some tricks that are handy. Angelmark's run was a great source but maybe someone knows tricks he didn't use or that are only useful in a 100% run. Also: what should I use to record with, I have a program now called camstudio but it SUCKS and I don't know how to deal with it. Lots of people use fraps but I vaguely remember that you have to pay for it to make long recordings and that it makes your game lag quite bad. So if someone knows another program that works well could that someone please give me its name or a download link. Lastly, what does 100% for this game mean? I myself was thinking about all wizard cards(including the one of Harry himself) and all house points(although that might actually be tricky, I suck at getting 4/4 in lessons so I'd make segments for like all lessons then.) But maybe only wizard cards would be good too, that'd be a lot easier. If you can help me with all this I'd really appreciate it.

p.s. I don't know if there were any grammar or spelling errors in this, I think not but I'm from the Netherlands so I might have made some mistakes.
Yes Johnny, play the violin!
Sorry for the repost, but I'm actually posting with an account this time.

Waiting hurts my soul...
No idea what you should use to record.

Here's the definition of the second game that can probably base this one on: "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PC): All wizard cards, all secrets on every map, All duels completed, All quidditch matches completed, Quidditch armour and Nimbus 2001.The spell challenge stars aren't required."
Yes Johnny, play the violin!
Well I had seen that definition when I wrote this, but there's a difference: In HP2 the more challenge stars you get the more house points you get, and the big difference between house points in hp1 and hp2 is that in 2 you have to go to the bean bonus room if your house is first. So it wouldn't make sense to want lots of house points in HP2 while in HP1 it doesn't matter, it just looks better in the menu screen... That's why I thought max house points might have been a requirement in HP1 although I still wonder what the others think. I hadn't thought about the secrets on every map, in hp2 the game keeps track of all secret area's you find. In HP1 they don't, so I don't know if that's required.

The Anomaly
The 100% definition for this game would probably be just all wizard cards. Personally I'd like to include challenge stars and doing all the spells perfectly aswell, but since they aren't required for CoS, it doesn't make much sense to include them here.

Good luck with the run though, I'll be sure to watch it.
