Speed is the key.
I don't have much to do on my spare time now, so I went through my old computer games and found Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (my version is called the Philosopher's Stone).

I'm thinking of improving the current run by Mkt2015. I'm doing segmented like him, but I will make more segments and try to make it perfect. My goal is to get Sub 2 hours (Mkt2015's time was 2:06) and I know I can do it since I found some ways to improve (sequence breaks ;)).

But first, I need to know if anyone is interested in this run. It's not such a popular game after all.  Roll Eyes

MGS for PS1 forever.
I would be interested to know what the sequence breaks are. BTW, I had to have a friend staring at my computer screen near the very end when all of the bottles move on the table. I figured it was better to have 2 pairs of eyes instead of 1 to see which one to click.

I also only did 4 segments because it's not a hard game and I wanted to at least show some skill:P

They aren't that advanced (the sequence breaks). Sometimes it's just running through a certain part of a room to avoid a cutscene trigger. Below is a link to a small one in the Wingardium Leviosa Challenge.

I save 20 seconds:

I am only halfway through the game yet and I hope to find more than I already have.

Btw, interesting tactic on the potions.  Smiley

Aww fuck it, just give me an afternoon and I will SS it. Gotta find it first, though.
Well, as the poor soul who verified it the first time around (Psychochild- Verifying everything that no one else would since Summer 2005!), I would be interested in seeing what sequence breaks would exist for this game.  The game is so linear with cutscene triggers almost everywhere that it'd be VERY interesting.

I'd also like to suggest someone does a run on the third console game (The Gamecube played much like a toned down version of Zelda, if I recall) just out of perverse curiosity.

I was going to show you a sequence break I found long ago but I ended up finding 2 tricks more ::).

http://rapidshare.de/files/8970900/HPSS-tricks.rar.html

The first one is a small shortcut in the first challenge. I skip pushing the box in to the void. The second one skips the first cutscene with Hermione, it saves about 10 seconds. And the last has something to do with snails before herbology class :P.

btw, this is one crappy game to speedrun, so I'm not going to. Tongue

I have once again downloaded Mkt2015's run and I will watch it today and see if I can get some tips from there.

I will start recording sometime next week (I have a lot of homework :().

Pweisger: Go for it, if you can make a good SS I'll watch it.

By mistake I deleted my save file where I had gotten half-way through the game and had to start over. Roll Eyes

Btw, I found a way to skip the Fred & George cutscene near the Greenhouse.

sarou: Nice! Those tricks will come in handy. Grin

Edit: The sequence break near the Greenhouse is extremely hard to perform and only saves a few seconds, so I might skip it.

Edit: I found a way to save a good 25 seconds in the Flipendo Challenge by performing a "pot-jump".
Here's a vid of that:

Edit: The sequence break outside the Greenhouse wasn't that hard at all. You just have to walk on a certain spot. I will use it in my run.

Ok, this game is loaded with sequence break oppurtunities. I will probably play it through a couple of times to see if I can find some more.  Smiley

I played through the Lumos Challenge today and discovered that the Peeves battle there is skipable, one "Lumos Gargoyle" is also skipable.

I hope that there still is some interest in this run since I'm doing good.  Grin

I found a new technique today when I played around a bit. I haven't found any serious use for it buuuut its pretty funny.

http://rapidshare.de/files/9002727/HPSS-wallclimbing.rar.html

it has pretty limited usage, you can only use it when you, for example, have a hole in the wall where you have to climb. jump towards the ledge so that you trigger the "grabbing a ledge" animation but slide along the ledge (while jumping) to a solid wall (no ledge) and harry will climb the solid wall ::). maybe its better to watch my vids than read my crappy explanation. and sorry about my shitty framerate, fraps aint cooperating with me :(.

Interesting about the wallclimbing. It saves a second in the Incendio challenge, no doubt. And the one in the forest was... strange. For a minute I thought you were going to walk past a big piece of the area like that but I guess I was too excited.  Roll Eyes

Edit: I wont do this now, maybe not until I get a new computer.

Ok, I know that I took a very long time doing this, but I've been doing other things as well. This game also happen to be one of those games you get tired of quickly, so I've been running in periods.

I did the run in 21 segments and it's not something I'm proud of, splitting such an easy game into 21 parts... but there's a story behind it.

At first, I was going to make much longer segments, but I quickly found a problem: the auto-saving system. If I for example did a segment and went past an auto-save point, then screwed up later in that segment, I would have to play the game from the beginning and do exactly the same things all the way up to the point where the segment originally started. So I did the segments between auto-saves. When I had done 19 segments (I was going to make 25 :o), my friend told me that if I copied the save files to a different folder I could just replace them if I screwed up, then try again and so on. So that's what I did the last 2 segments. Well, enough on that matter.

I haven't timed the run, but I'm pretty sure that with all the cutscenes excluded, the time would be around 1:30. With the cutscenes included, the time wont go below 1:40.

If someone's interested, I could have the run uploaded to FileFront until tomorrow.

sure, go ahead! Cheesy btw, did you find any new tricks?

Count on it. Wink

Here's the run: -Link removed

If you're looking for the best time-saving tricks, they are in:

-Part 02
-Part 04
-Part 06
-Part 07
-Part 13
-Part 15
-Part 18
-Part 19

There are small time-saving tricks in pretty much every segment, though. I used most of your tricks, too, thanks for those.
Just finished seeing it. Very nice Grin Awesome sequence breaks.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked it. Cheesy

I think I'll submit this, there aren't too many mistakes if I remember correctly.

Edit: I timed the run roughly and got a 1:38:50. That's including cutscenes, but I didn't include loading and loading screens. It should be around that time when it gets up on SDA.

That means that I've improved the old run by something like 27 minutes. 8)
Speed is the key.
I'm thinking of doing a 100% run... it depends on what such a run would include. I'm thinking all wizard cards, but what about house points? Beans probably wont count, but I'll still need to collect some for the Fred & George wizard cards.

Any ideas on what a 100% run should include?
PwNzRd!
Good stuff! As for the 100%, you need all the wizard cards, probably getting as many house points as possible, and anything else you can think of that would make the game as complete as possible.
Speed is the key.
It's too bad if I'll have to get all the house points... I probably wont do it, then. At least not anytime soon.
PwNzRd!
To get them all, you need to get (and this is from memory), all the spells right four times in a row, and get all the checkpoints in the broomstick training before time runs out. I have done it several times before. I think you also have to get all the challenge stars and shit.

Yep, it would include doing all spells perfectly (or 95%), getting every single challenge star and getting a perfect score at the flying lesson. I've also done all that, it's very easy, I just don't have the time to do all that now.

You would also need to get all the wizard cards and 250+ beans.
PwNzRd!
It really isn't that hard. I might do it myself should I happen upon the CD in the near future.

Arg!  File front is being stupid today.  I got the first 10 segments yesterday and now it's just sitting at the 'contacing server' page.  I am definately liking what I am seeing so far.  Anyway, I like the HP world (read all books, seen all movies) so an improved run would be very cool to watch.  Any plans on submitting these still?

Edit:  FF seems to be working again now.
