It said there was something wrong with the .dll. or something. Ah well, no worries. I wonder if you could just pull the bell through the wood, then go to the grenades as soon as the door opens up. Oh well, atleast I know where those grenades are now XD

It's not possible to pull the bell through the wood because the rope is too far away.

I found a major sequence break - where you have to encounter the helicopter, I just grenade jumped to the watery stuff above and then walked right to the lava pits, and dropped down next to the cave entrance.

Did you already find that shortcut?

I did, actually, just never mentioned it. Although, you basically get first credit on it, because I could never get up there by legit means. I always knew the shortcut was there, just could never do it without early grenades. Now that we have grenades in that area, though.... hehehe! However, this presents a problem for the grenade hop over the car down the road. I'll have to do some fancy stuff with healthpacks, it seems. Stupid game and it not having any armor =\

Oh by the way, after the cool grenade glitch at the beginning to get through the door, there's another shortcut that skips the stupid scientist that gets run over by the red truck, another shortcut I always knew was there. There's a locked door in another room that leads outside, and if you throw a grenade out there, it breaks the lock, thus skipping the truck. Yay!

Wow, I never knew about that shortcut. 12 seconds wasted there.

I skip a lot of ammo, too. I'm at the beginning of the train tracks with 43 health. Is that enough to survive the next section?

By the way, at the place where you have to wait for the volcano to pop out in order to cross the lava pit, if you have over 50 health you can just strafe-jump into the lava and make it alive, saving about 6 seconds. I made up for this by getting the health pack in the circular cliff with the barney guard.

What difficulty are you doing this on?

Well, the way I'm doing it, I'm gonna need 100% health, or atleast something very close to it, because I'm gonna grenade hop over the car and keep my speed hopefully straight to the dam. With the grenade hop into the skybox, I'm gonna have to detour and get the health pack plus the shotgun on the cliff, and then find another health pack on the way to the tracks. There's another one there if memory serves. I should hope 43% health would be enough to survive all those areas normally, because I'm gonna have to do it with like, 5% health XD!

You can actually just long jump to the ledge. It's a tricky one, even for me.

Easy. I hate playing Half-Life on Hard. Whenever I do, nothing works, so I'm an Easy man. Besides, it's the only way to make this run manageable and include all the shortcuts.

Hmm, I'm gonna make a thread about this tomorrow.

long jump? You mean there's a long jump module somewhere?

If you're referring to bunnyhopping, I find it quite impossible to do, considering that you're going uphill before the jump.

I think I'll have to take the train, because it saves the trouble of dealing with the zombies in the tunnel and it breaks the car open for you. I'll just grenade jump over the barrier where you have to swim underwater to activate the switch. But not having the train in the next tunnel could present some trouble with the zombies.

I'll take the task of doing a run on hard then. Ever since the HL runs came out, I thought there was some unwritten rule that all runs had to be on hard mode. Of course, mine wouldn't have all the crazy grenade boosting yours features.

I don't see how that's ironic, but I'll just leave it to the HL2DQ team.

It's because you're running the prequel(s) to the game and this one is coming out soon.

No, just a normal long jump. It's what you do first before you go off speed jumping, because that's where most of your speed comes from. Speed jumping just increases speed = P

When do you think the run would be finished? Isn't They Hunger 1 the shortest and barely had any tough enemies or puzzles? I haven't (Probably never will again) played since March Break of last year. It's too sad to play because of the memories.  Cry  Tongue

Also, the PoCari is a French dueling pistol (Did I tell you that already?).

On hard difficulty, a group of cops can rip you apart in seconds.

I'm at the part where there's a helicopter hovering over the dam and lots of enemies are firing at you. My plan was to throw a grenade and flush out the cops, then grenade jump over the barrier, but it seems like I get chopped up as soon as I leave the train.

At best, the run will be finished next week.

I remember that part. 50% of the enemies are zombies (melee zombies), however the police zombies only use pistols, I remember always having good health. Until TH2 came out  :-/. But isn't that helicopter part where you receive a new weapon? I remember THAT was tough.

If you're taking it nice and slow and sniping the cops from a distance, then it's easy.

If you're trying to run past them without losing too much health, things can get really nasty.

But I found an easy way to do that part. I just let the train kill the two cops next to the crates, then I snipe the cop beyond that. If I'm low on health, I pick up a healthkit in one of the crates.

I'm now at the part where you come out of the long train tunnel, with 19 health (from the grenade jump over the barrier). Now I have to face 6 cops on the top of the buildings. Fun fun @_@

What percent of the game are you done? Aren't you already near the end of TH1? You can quickly pistol them, I remember having fast reflexes to shoot their heads. I played hard normally and slowly and it was easy. You did the run pretty quickly. I can't wait to see it.

They Hunger was my favorite, and will always remain my favorite of all mods.

Tip for LG. Instead of mucking about in the barn, jump on top of a barrel, then jump on the pipe on the left side of the house and into the skybox. Go around the house, and on the backside, you'll notice a little arch. Crawl through that, trigger the loadzone, and you're right in the town. After that, you can go into the radio station, grab the chair out of it, push it into the fence, jump on it, over the fence, into the skybox, and over the buildings. After the car goes through the flame blockade, what I'm doing is grenade hopping over the house, but for Hard, you'll just have to do it normally. Shame.

As for my run, I don't know when it'll be finished. Not for awhile. I want to finish my Halo 1 SS first, then I'll start picking away at TH. If I get my capture card hooked up in that time, I'll be running Halo and Halo 2 A LOT, but I'll still run TH from time to time : )

Oh and LG, did you happen to notice a fishy fish in the water before the tracks? Wink

Well I'm officially done with the run. I'll have to time it later.

I don't think it's possible to jump on top of the barrel. You just don't go high enough. Even if I could, I had to pick up 71 health inside the barn because I did a grenade jump over the train barrier and had to do another over the church.

Yes, and I flew him all around the place XD

There's a place right by the barrels that is on a bit of an incline. Go to the top of the mini hill, jump to the barrel. Easy.

Ok, I timed the segments as best as I could with a stopwatch and I ended up with a time of 11 minutes, 19 seconds. I started the timing when my character first falls in the water and end the timing when the lights go out at the top of the stairs.

The whole run was in 24 segments, and something like 6 of them were forced due to loading zones.

Anyone know if this time is good (for hard difficulty)?

Unless a major shortcut is found, I estimate that a run using my same route can be improved by 40 seconds max due to my atrocious bunnyhopping.
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
Seems like a good time. When will you upload the run ?  Tongue
^ A bug called Stinks.
I think it's a good better time as well. Host it as soon as you can!

Remember we don't want this to end up like Spider's run, waiting forever.  Wink

I still have to capture it. Last time when I captured my HL run with fraps, I played all the demos in succession, resulting in terrible audio desynch. This time, I'm going to capture them one at a time, and then append them together in vdub.

Does that result in better audio quality?
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
Well, the best of recording is to record in 25-30 fps, and then as you say record one segment at the time, and finally append them.

Finally got the editing and uploading done, here it is!

http://files.filefront.com/They_Hunger_speed_runavi/;6120102;;/fileinfo.html

Clocks in at 11:24 with the half second penalties added in.

@Zhouy: you're right. the audio is much better when you capture all the segments separately.

Ya, I've been there before when making my own runs.
Will edit in the run to the first post.

Edit: Ok, here's some comments for your run:

The video is kinda laggy, but able to watch. You could have made more segments to get some of the tricks better performed, like I noticed in the tunnel where you failed to do a grenade boost.  I also noticed that you stopped one segment when you bunnyjumped, so you losed all your speed. It would be better if you started a new segment on a place where it is required to wait (in this case, the place where the scientist watch out through the window and says "Do you know what those things out there are?". Finally, some monsters could probably be skipped (correct me if I'm wrong).  But, otherwise, kinda cool run, I liked the shortcuts you used.
