I don't know if mods are allowed at this but...considering that "They Hunger" is one of the most well known mods in the community...I thought, hey! Why not?
I've found a few tricks through my various play throughs, I'll post some of my findings when I get a few recorded.
it is mentioned in the FAQ, and unfortunately custom mods aren't allowed.

What kind of games do you accept runs on? Any game released by a major publisher for PC or for a console system.
Although it won't be hosted on sda, I'd still like to see it done. Maybe you can find another host for the videos. You might try contacting Radix, maybe you can work something out to get the speedrun hosted on archive.org, but not on sda.
if you submit something to the speedrunning collection of archive.org, they'll contact radix about it anyway. He once explained it on these forums. Contacting Radix first is probably more polite, he doesn't like archive.org sending him speedruns he didn't submit.
Face did a run for Operation Na Pali, a mod for Unreal Tournament. I say good luck with this run, man, but I would listen to Tub about the submitting thing. It would be considerate to let people know what is going on before something just pops up.
Ya, I figured I'd ask to see what the public thought...so...I suppose I'll be doing it then!
I've found a few really helpful and time saving (sometimes saving up to 20 seconds I believe...) tricks and doing a crappy version of b-hopping...I really have no clue how you guys do it...I read that they guy who did the OP4 speed demo used scripts...I'd use them...but...I dunno how to implement scripts...Any help?
Btw, I'm aiming for a time around 15-18 minutes, 20 minutes tops. So far, I think I can do it! I just need that little help I explained above.
Bunny hopping is difficult to explain, but it's easy to do when you finally get the hang of it. Jumping forward and then letting go of the forward key and just jumping with the strafe keys is how it works. Jumping with the strafe keys, you need to implement air strafing. Incase you don't know what that means, it's when you press down a strafe key and move your mouse in that same direction. That's how you can do crazy spins in the air, and reach crazy speeds on the ground. It takes a lot of practice to do it correctly though, :-/. You need to time your jumps perfectly too. Just always forget the forward key when you're speed jumping.
Spider-Waffle did use scripts for his OP4 run, but I wouldn't suggest using scripts, they lower the impressiveness of the run. Besides, you probably don't need them. But incase you want them for some perplexing reason, you would have to ask around for more advice, because I don't know how to implement them, just giving you my opinion.
Well, surprisingly enough...I might be able to make a 15 minute run. Just found a few other new shortcuts (jumping on the crypt and onto the lamp-post then onto the cliff after the zombies destroy the bridge. And twirl jump onto the remains of the bridge on the cliff. save about 20 seconds)
I'm still haven't been able to bunny hop/strafe jump yet...and it's really putting a damper on my run prospects...
So...Strafe jumping, you don't hold forward, you jump, strafe left, move the mouse right, jump strafe right, move the mouse left, repeat...
...I do that and I stay in one place jumping side to side...
Or, I hold forward and do that and I go slightly faster...Is there a tech demo out there to show what to do, rather than words? I just need to know this, then I'll be on my way to doing my proper speedrun! w00t!
About the bunnyjumping... What you describe is what happens if you remain in contact with the floor too much; try jumping as soon as you hit the floor, and it might work a bit better. In fact... try watching a couple of Quake demos, as Half Life uses the same engine.
"w00t" is a perfectly cromulent word As long as you're not saying "teh n00bz0rz"
I know that bunny hoppers in NS (the half life mod) generally bind "+jump" to "mwheeldown", so that when they're about to touch the ground they can slam down on the mouse wheel, sending the jump command really rapidly, and thus minimize their actual time on the ground.
I'll try watching a few more demos'...but...er...I'll try anything...but I've got a feeling that I won't get it to work properly...but...you never know...
I'm optomistic!
(Edit: GRRR!!! F*cking hell!!! I give up! Somebody teach me...as in...do what when, what not to do, what should happen if you do it right, and what shouldn't happen...I'm sorry...I just....GRRR!!! Frustrating!
if you submit something to the speedrunning collection of archive.org, they'll contact radix about it anyway. He once explained it on these forums. Contacting Radix first is probably more polite, he doesn't like archive.org sending him speedruns he didn't submit.
I've yet to figure out how to submit anything to that collection, actually. I ended up labelling my ONP speedrun an "open source movie", as there was basically no collection choice related to video games (even though there are several sections for that ???). And I don't think Radix ever heard from my run again, even though I made several requests for it to be moved to a more fitting section.
So...Strafe jumping, you don't hold forward, you jump, strafe left, move the mouse right, jump strafe right, move the mouse left, repeat...
Actually you move mouse left when strafing left, right when strafing right. If you were doing it the opposite way it explains why you gained no momentum.
You'll need half life, Steam and the They Hunger mod from Fileplanet.
It'd be the easiest way for you guys to see how I do everything. I'll also be putting up a list of the shortcuts that I do, cause some of them are...er...interesting to see.
Back to painting...I'll reply back later with my first upload...hopefully!
