If this was to cut a large enough amount of time, couldn't it be made into a separate category instead?

Separate "fun" category is ofc fine, you can't stop people playing what they want to Tongue

Quote from Mooo:
Plus, I'll bet there's some ways to simulate the effect without losing the actual audio, such as Virtual Audio Cable.

Maybe, but forcing people to "buy" a piece of software to get a time bonus is kinda harsh, think about things like Trilogy races where people just want to double click GTA:SA.exe and go

I tested the 2 star police stuff for Drive By. Police bikes don't seem to spawn during the mission. But you can regain the 2 stars quickly by shooting a police officer in the head after completing the mission. By using the reverse camera, a police bike will spawn in the street. I found it to be a very consistent police bike(maybe 100%). The problem is that you have to deal with the police during Sweet's Girl as well.

I've also found that if you get shot while answering the Sweet phone call(after killing all the guys) during Sweet's Girl, you are able to get inside a vehicle. Getting shot interrupts the phone call animation, but the dialogue continues.
I just noticed that it says "Pilot licence now obtained" after the circle airstrip and just "flying skill upgraded" after you do later flying school missions so do you really need to do them all?
It should be necessary to complete all of flight school. You need to finish "Are you Learning to Fly?" to unlock some more missions. I'm sure this has already been discussed in the past.
would anybody be able to time

A) giving all catalyst boxes to ryder asap rather than waiting to avoid driving on the train tracks

B) driving over the traintracks on the way to monster vs jumping onto the motorway via transfender ramp and taking the highway there

I'm really inconsistent with timing (and driving too speaking of which)

Small route change in Badlands.

During the section of three Catalina missions you should start with Small Town Bank, in which you get the rifle and a police bike.
Then on Local Liquor Store you use the police bike and rifle.
Then on Against all Odds the bike will despawn once you start the mission and you take the Buffalo like normal.

Before we were doing Against all Odds first, but this had the effect of making the cutscene at the end of Local Liquor Store about 5 seconds longer, and you would have to switch from the police bike to the buffalo for the Wu Zi Mu race after.

Also, as pointed out to me by Zoton2 yesterday, the mission marker for Are You Going To San Fierro seems to work in the same way as the one for Vertical Bird and the rest of the missions at Madd Dogg's house in return to Los Santos, in that you can trigger them before answering the phone call for them by standing where the marker would be. It seems that the marker is simply invisible before you answer the phone call, yet the mission unlocks like normal (once you complete Farewell My Love, in Are You Going to San Fierro's case)
At first I just thought it was an oddity with the mission marker at Madd Dogg's house, but since it happens elsewhere I'm not too sure as the reason anymore.

I once messed around with the idea of just canceling phone calls at the beginning of the game while stood at Madd Dogg's house mission marker in the hope to activate the mission, but it seems that something else causes this oddity. I also tried just going to Are You Going to San Feirro's marker at the start of the badlands section yesterday but I couldn't start it early.

Like I said, my guess is that they just make the mission marker invisible before answering the phone call for the mission, knowing WHY they do that, and WHY they do it for two(maybe more?) spots would be nice. Maybe it could be useful elsewhere too?

A) maybe later
wtf @ B) youtu.be/CTzty4EC3O8

I did testing on this and had it so the train tracks ended up being faster than the road (to my surprise). Will need to look at this again..
A) youtu.be/O2JhFMX-d2o
B) well its hard to make any errors on a train tracks route, while with highway u have to gently jump onto bridge, to avoid slowmo and after highway terrain is pretty rough
i also have high bike skill, but its same for both runs, and shouldnt affect anyway?
cleaning the hood
is my gta messed up or what?

So what does everyone think about getting a guaranteed police bike for Sweet's Girl at the cost of getting 2 stars for that mission? The mission already gives runners some trouble. Adding the police in could make that mission even harder; they can shoot your tires out for the Greenwood or kill you. But you might be able to deal with them if you figure out some way.

And about the train tracks vs highway:
I just tested it with faster bikes like the NRG and FCR. It was only 1-2 seconds faster for the highway than the train tracks. However, getting the slow motion jump makes the highway route slower than the train tracks. The Sanchez might only be that slow because it's a much slower bike compared to the faster ones.
I don't like the sound of it too much tbh Cheesy sounds very risky, though I'm not a runner

I think it's better to pick up stars on driveby/cleaning the hood, and if a bike spawns, shoot in the air and steal the bike rather than shooting the cop and having 2 stars
nothing wrong with your GTA w0ox Tongue That strat is faster however if done in a RTA you are just increasing the reset counter. It is quite risky to hope for a car at the end of that mission.

Its probably just a miscode where they set the trigger at the end of the previous mission (like happens with most missions that dont need a phonecall), but made the marker bound to the phonecall, since the actual trigger and the marker/radar are three separate entities. Simple oversight in the code. They did it correct for missions like HSLR and Doberman.

Josh, you didn't do a couple strats in the recent run attempt:
1. Jump over the wall in Yay Ka-Boom-Boom by using the ramp and not the containers.
2. Get the 40 rockets while the package is falling down instead of at the end. You should make it there before the package if you don't crash.
3. Learn how to do the pause buffer strats for Highjack so that you can save a few seconds and be consistent(when you have time).

I am also interested in the timing of a few things. I might figure these out later unless someone else wants to jump in.
Burning Desire:I want to see if taking a bike to the back of the house(up the stairs) and then driving to the front would be faster than the regular strats.
Riot: Driving route back to Grove Street. I want to know if going to the left at the start would be faster than going right.

Sweet's Girl
I found a fast and consistent way of using the police bike to kill everyone on Sweet's Girl. You can use the micro-smg to kill everyone while on the police bike. Pick up both of the weapon drops to have enough for WSOTT. Running everyone over with the police bike is too inconsistent to do.
Sweet's Girl Police Bike

In case someone wants to use the guaranteed police bike at the cost of 2 stars: Use the strats I already mentioned. It actually isn't that bad if you kill everyone quickly. The police won't hurt you that much if you do it correctly. You can get a police car to drive on the way back if you're lucky enough. This will help you save time later if you manage to get a fast vehicle before Burning Desire.
Sweet's Girl 2 Stars

Snail Trail

Here is a suggestion for the driving route back after the mission. You can drive up a certain section of the hill to get to the tunnel. It should save a few seconds.
Driving Route Back After Snail Trail

End of the Line
You can save a few seconds in floor 1 if you do these strats. It is not required to kill everyone in that room.
End of the Line Floor 1

Don Peyote

I think that shooting all of the guys instead of shooting 1 rocket at them will always give you 1 star.

Vertical Bird

It is easier to do the strats by Tuplanolla if you bring the landing gear out while in jet mode. You can also turn right instead of turning left after shooting the 2 boats.
Here it is again:

riot routes
1st of all, no passanger, driver skill bar at 0
top left ( first crack at this route, it remain unbeaten by other routes so i didnt work on it, f.e. you can totaly cut the corner that is infornt of you at 0;20) vs bottom right ( BO 10, half of which i fliped the car i think)
oops

Ah thank you, I completely forgot about these things.
You know, come to think of it though I never really use all my rockets in LV since I switch to minigun at black project, I migh just skip grabbing those ones entirely. I guess doing that though doesn't really save any time since I have to wait for the package anyway...
Bad Lands route change: "[current order] making the cutscene at the end of Local Liquor Store about 5 seconds longer"
You compared the sum of all cutscenes you have to watch, didn't you? IIRC, CannibalK9 said that he did that and that his route was the best possible in that regard.

In 2) you skip the 20 missiles on the hill. That makes it easier to be as close to the bike as possible without wasting time.
An alternative is getting armor in the package part of the mission and the missiles at the very end as in the old route, it is on the air strip, the third plane to the right IIRC. Or you can see how far you can push down the time and try collecting both armor and missiles without losing more than the time it takes to get the missiles after the package part ('loosing'= time the package lies on the ground until collected),

Pro armor: Mafia shooting your missile in 'Chips' or 'Meat'. You should be able to keep 50% armor until the latter and so with armor you should survive being unlucky in both missions, in the former because you start at 100% armor, in the latter because there is armor in the freezer. Without armor, you are left with 20% health in the former and dead in the latter as you lose health in Misappropriation and Meat Business itself.

I checked how far you got ('WTF, did he say Josh got out of LS in an actual attempt?' Tongue half serious) and saw you died in Misappropriation. Pausing the game to think helps a lot I think. But - disregarding the fact that maybe you have to train yourself to remember to pause when necessary - it's noob-like. Cheesy So I wouldn't do that, I guess I am not a pure speedrunner. Cheesy

Badlands Route (Catalina Missions Order, Comparison Video)
I compared the routes and made a comparison video before I actually reminded Josh of it again during his run and I'm pretty sure it's faster, but this stuff somehow confuses me so I might be wrong. The cutscene after the Bank can always be skipped, the cutscene after the Betting Shop is always the same ("You impress me CJ, here's your cut big man") and the cutscene after the Liquor Store is the one that is different. Besides cutscenes I don't think there is anything different time-wise except the end, where you don't have to switch vehicles.

Here is the comparison video. I only cut together the parts that should be different, but of course it might not be very exact, so don't take the times too seriously. The last cutscene ends for the new route about 6 seconds earlier, most of which probably comes from the shorter cutscene and a bit from starting the next mission faster after the first cutscene. The cutscene length can also be a bit different depending on how you park, at least I got Catalina stuck once and it was a lot slower, not sure how big the difference can be if you don't exactly get her stuck but park a bit further away or something, so she has to walk further.

Either way, I think the route change should still save 10+ seconds. Just take the video as a rough comparison. Smiley

Question, anyone know if it would be possible to keep your bike from Snail trail all the way to Torenos last flight?

For example, you grab the NRG on the way back from snail train, instead of taking the helicopter. Then use the NRG for Jizzy, amphibious assault, pier 69 and Toreno last flight.
Thanks woox for that comparison. I didn't think it was faster to take the twisty path. That route should also be faster for Home Coming if you decide to drive(you should take the Hydra instead if it isn't too damaged).

Tirean, it is possible to keep your bike from Snail Trail till Toreno's Last Flight. I'll just quote what Patrick said a few pages back:

Quote from Patrick:
Tduva, your Amphibious strat is probably better than the one that I came up with.
The 'one boat strat', as opposed to the 'two boats strat' allows you to keep your bike after Amphibious Assault. In order to keep it until "Toreno's Last Flight", you need it to survive two evil despawn areas in Pier 69. It is worth it by a few seconds.

Explanations and videos:
1)Runners used to park south of the cleared area, so they had to run far, you can also park to the West of it. Pic:

3)
I won't make a pic of this cleared area until I know how to do it without Paint. Cheesy Just do as I do. Tongue

Just to add to what Tirean asked; there's an NRG spawn on SF airport, not too far from the chopper spawn.

It might be worth it to take it but I am poor at timing stuff.
Ok after some testing I believe it is faster to take the NRG and prevent it from despawning. Not only is it faster it makes missions like Jizzy and Pier 69 much easier as you take less damage. If you execute well you will even have enough armour and health left to skip the health pick up in The Da Nang Thang.

Some downsides to the NRG however. It is quite difficult to drive at certain sections in SF, amphibious assault mission can go very wrong costing you a lot of time.

The Green Sabre
Here is a way of using grenades in The Green Sabre.  Make sure to use the camera trick to despawn a car that blocks the first van. The grenades in this mission kill the guys in the vans without them getting out or the vehicle exploding(I don't know why this works). But I am not sure why it sometimes doesn't work(maybe the grenade has to hit at a specific time).

1st reference point: Stand by the giant pillar. Wait for the first van to pass the light pole. Then throw the grenade to that spot in the video.
2nd reference point: Stand near the line and angle the camera like I do. Wait till the van appears in view on edge of the screen(not the map, but you might be able to figure out a reference for that). Then throw the grenade to that spot in the video.

You might be able to find better reference points than I did.

Pier 69

I found a better parking spot than the spot behind the pole up the hill.  Make sure to park closer to the corner because the bike will despawn if you park it too close to the stairs.
