Wow. Already some runs going, that's pretty cool. Smiley
And no taxi for Trevor%? That's a pretty good time Shocked

By the way... (Spoilers)
Isn't killing Trevor in the end faster than trying to kill Michael? Because there's a car chase sequence (harder than the other one), Trevor then crashes and you can kill him right away instead of a long foot chase sequence filled with cutscenes.

no because with the kill michael option, you can glitch him out twice to speed up the running sequence. its shorter by about 20-30 seconds.

Just ended my streaming session of 3 hours, had some good splits of over 11 minutes saved but in the end it went overboard with 1,5 minute behind, mainly due to some weird things like this car bug, will highlight it and post it here.

Get lit on fire while holding jerrycan = it explodes and your character gets a nice boost. Possibly sticking to collision rules though, while vehicles are happy to leave you in the grey.

ah, the guy who stops in the pipe is the cheap driver guy, it's an ugly loss of time. The link should be http://www.twitch.tv/truljin/c/3008636
aka theenglishman
I also saw a clip from that first Mythbusters episode where the player somehow cancelled fall damage by activating Trevor's special ability.
Truljin @ Twitch
But I've used the cheap one before without any problems, guess it becomes a problem when you use the cheap gunman and driver.

Parachutes are for casuals

You can also use Trevor's ability to skip a chunk during The Wrap Up right after destroying the first Buzzard Helicopter by damage boosting yourself down to the ground where Dave is.
new any% run- 8:36:48 http://www.twitch.tv/gamingdekap/c/3025180

beat previous time by over 35 minutes. i could shave another 10-15 minutes from the mission fails and probably another 5-10 minutes from new strats/tech i already found for certain missions. enjoy.

So i found a new faster way to do Crystal Maze, this shows the jist of it, remember to just ignore all the enemies except the last one and do a mission fail after picking up the can. http://www.twitch.tv/truljin/c/3033034 (remember to drive the car to the door)
Hey, been speaking with lillbrorsan and he said I should make a vote for GTA 5 classic % defining.

Please vote if you can (its free and anon)

goo.gl/vydTh0

many thanks!

Results will be posted after 5 days, however you can view the progress any time after voting

* any category that gets less than 20% of the total votes will not be allowed (ie if 100 people vote in the vote, but only 20 vote to say death skip is ok then it will be ignored)
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
What does mission skips mean? And do you have an example of where out of bounds would be helpful? Is there really a way to clip though walls?
Fast travel, I assume that means using a taxi and skipping the journey?
Truljin @ Twitch
Have yet to find any OOB, but mission skips basically means that you fail a mission by a checkpoint to save time like Crystal Maze, fast travel is indeed taxi.
I will be sure to add help to the descriptions.
Thank you for people voting (I try to post a link most streams im in if ok with streamer.
25 votes so far, keep up the good work people
Form now edited with help next to description

also OOB has been found however no current benefit from it, would mainly be set now to allow players to know what their class entails (see code below for OOB link)

Code:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsE7LNFK_cA
dialogue skip on father/son. shaves 3 seconds.
Hey, just got my 100% time 89 hours haha.

I have also found new weird things with the sherifs office OOB, you need to use a parachute and head to the sea. Kinda like rubber banding. I need to film this really
As for the trevor% races, should we define some rules? I personally think no taxis and no skips, since it's such a relatively short route. That keeps as much actual player skill in as possible. Thoughts? I'd definitely be down for some races just as soon as I get some streaming equipment.
Just been playing with the OOB stuff and recorded a video on my phone (shocking but good quality) I will be adding descriptions of how it all works at some point today.

Trevor% should be defined of course, other categorys I can think of would be gold% and what any% actually allows for? as far as I can tell thats never been set.

Code below is a link to my OOB from sherifs office, then use parachute straight away. You can see it fly under the land on the map when I pause it, I also show the location you should head for if you want to hit water (character switchs had to be done due to length of time it took franklin to swin to the surface [hes at max strenth etc])
It also shows what happens if you can see the tree's above you and swim/fly towards them - its some sort of fast travel, reminded me of cosmos wind waker stuff)

I will experiment more with this but is anyone else working on OOB that useful? or made any other progress?

Any% doesn't have to be defined since it's a default category which allows everything within the game's rules.

I assume with gold% you mean getting a gold rating on each mission? And trevor% as I understand is a race to completing the jewel store job.
Both of these categories define a goal, and posing inherent limitations on a goal-defining category doesn't make sense when looking at speedrunning in general, and it's counter-intuitive as well.
For example, a lot of games have categories with extra limitations. As long as there's no separate "%" name (such as classic%), extra limitations are (always) defined explicitly. Examples are any% no major skips, any% glitchless, any% no OoB, etc etc. For all these names, it is clear what they allow or rather what they don't allow.

If you define Trevor% as not allowing taxis or skips, how would that be distinguishable from the category name? Not at all. How would you do a race without (one of) those limitations? Trevor% with taxis? This implies you HAVE to use taxis, which is not the case of course. Or if you want to do a race to trevor without those limitations but with another limitation (e.g. no OoB). Trevor% with taxis and skips without OoB. Besides being an ugly as hell name the other things I mentioned before are even more clear here. You'd have to use taxis and skips? No, of course not, but the category name says otherwise. If you keep trevor% as a clean, goal-defining category you'd have a race: Trevor% no taxis or skips. It's immediately clear what this allows and what it doesn't allow, even without extensive prior knowledge. Basically how the races are defined atm, which is clear and unambiguous.
(I do understand that arbitrary definitions are necessary sometimes if they can't be avoided, but that is clearly not the case here.)
TL;DR Having inherent limitations in a goal-defining category is arbitrary and counter-intuitive.

Okay, that makes perfect sense, Lighnat0r. Thanks for the clarification.

konetsu: I'm looking at the OOB as well, but I'm not sure how it can be used to our advantage. The only thing I can think of is how the game puts you back onto the map if you're in water when you reach the limit rather than under the land.

edit: I just tried it and if you go below a limit while out of bounds in water you start to loose health even if you have oxygen. I'll keep looking and post if I find anything new.

Did my first practice run of 100% this past weekend and got 21 hours 23 minutes and 56 seconds in a single segment, will make the changes needed to splits and whatnot so my run this weekend for charity will be even better.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Single segment, wow. Maybe 100% will be faster here than in San Andreas then. :-)

After making notes for any/classic%, I decided to try a Trevor% run out.

Finished 1:45:04 with mistakes I didn't even make during the first playthrough, so definitely room for improvement. I haven't really learned the driving routes completely and the first major mistake was driving past the car dealership while cops still chase you during "Franklin and Lamar".

I noticed a lot of unusual choking since I was kind of excited, being my first speedrun of any game ever.

This is the first game I'm picking up for speedrunning and after the local electronics store stocks up on capture cards, I'm definitely going to stream routing and runs whenever I have time. I play on the 360 version.

I didn't watch any other runs beforehand so I used a different route than gamingdekap for example:

Franklin and Lamar
Reposession
Complications
Father/Son
Pulling Favors
Chop
Marriage Counseling
Daddy's Little Girl
Friend Request
Casing the Jewelry Store
Carbine Rifles
The Jewel Store Job

I will look into the routes more closely at a later time.

When I decided to start doing this I knew taxis would be a painful issue since they are a fast way to move, but then again a lot more boring.
I didn't use taxis during my first run but will definitely use them in the future, like Lightnat0r said: it's not "Trevor% no taxis", it's "Trevor%"
IMO Trevor% races would be a lot more fun with no taxis though.

Thanks to lillbrorsan for the split icons!
congrats on that pb javelin. next time, try doing pulling favors and chop before complications. im sure your time will improve.

did some runs and set some new times over the weekend.

trevor% - 1:17:49
paleto%: 5:32:28
any% (no failed mission skips, 2nd ending) - 8:17:49
classic% (no failed mission skips, no taxi, 3rd ending) - 8:59:52

Quote from GamingDekap:

Thanks, I changed the route and it felt a lot faster, problem was that I ended up making utterly horrible mistakes during runs and threw the leads during Carbine Rifles anyway (I made up a decent enough strat for it which was just hard to execute).

Apart from doing Favors > Chop > Complications, I also switched Friend Request and Daddy's Little Girl around.
With these tweaks and a healthy dose of "f this game" I managed to get 1:26:15.

I'll probably try other %s during next weekend to see what my notes are worth. Until then I'll probably grind Trevor run more to get consistent sub 1:40 atleast.
