that Metroidvania guy
I am probably going to be one of the last ones to post here (just because I'm a lazy bum who hasn't bothered using my own SDA account since before the marathon), but I am not afraid to try making a list of individual thank yous. If your name isn't specifically listed, that means you aren't cool enough... j/k. It probably means I'm a dork who let something slip my mind again. I'll try my best though.

Em & Paul: Congrats you two! You're awesome together! I had a lot of fun chilling with you two at the marathon, even if we were stuck in that little corner with the FME instances, wool, and the nico timer <3 . Individual thanks to Em for the Metaknight plush you made me for my bday and Paul for being a giant teddy bear. Good luck putting on your charade in #sda now, brochacho!

MTI and Silver: Congrats you two! You're awesome together! I had a lot of fun chilling with you two at the marathon, even if we were st Sorry we were a little late to your wedding, but I think we caught the important parts. I'm very happy for you two, and I hope it wasn't a big deal being tied together the whole day. Thanks for the cape loan during the SotN race, MTI. I tried my best to protect it after that, but obviously I was way too pro at it since you were able to steal it from right under me while I was sleeping. Hopefully we'll still be having fun with random races throughout the year... I'm sure we'll find something you can start crushing me in. Like... CONTRA!

Essentia and her wife Denton: Congrats you two! You're awesome together! I had a lot of fun chil Obvious thanks to Denton on all the trips to Five Guys, and even more obvious thanks to both of you for the great entertainment you put up at the end of the marathon with Lego Star Wars II (why do I not own that game???) and CT.

Uyama: Still kinda mad at you for not streaming the art of ZAPANG! during the bonus stream, but you've streamed it since so you kinda sorta made up for it. Oh, and all that awesome Asian food helps your case, too. And that whole setting up the marathon thing... maybe.

Nate: Sorry that I only got about 2 races in when taking over for you before disaster struck! >.< PS3s are strong. You are the man. I also agree that you should be sporting the manly man's beard next time.

Pootrain: You are a VERY relaxed dude. It's awesome that you were able to hang around through MAG with us. It's also nice for SDA's poverty brigade to keep on expanding. Nice job on shooting down a lot of the stereotypes on UK'ers. It'll be great to see you again. Don't forget that we've now officially renamed you to Poo Poo Choo Choo!

J: I'll be seeing you around and I'm sure we'll have plenty more crazy things we'll be co-op'ing this year. I was impressed with your Ninja Gaiden and Metroid performances, as pretty much everyone else was. Step up your game some more for KSS though! >=( Oh btw, there's some really nice sushi places we can choose from next time you're down the hill.

Stanski: You are a very generous and courteous person! You'd never know from your audio commentaries! You definitely stuck out as one of the nicest people I remember meeting at the marathon, and your willingness to drive people around speaks for itself. It's a bummer you didn't get to go to MAG with us, but the time we did spend with you was super fun to be sure.

Kareshi: You seemed way more talkative than I remember you being last year. Maybe it was all that streaming you've done this year. Wink It was really fun whenever you were in the room, and it was a blast watching your GnG run from a front row seat. Your piano performances were outstanding again, but that hardly needs to be said again. I look forward to the next opportunity I have to be graced by your presence, dude.

"Hello. You have reached, Timothy... Peters": You were very kind as always. I always seem to wonder to myself whether I'm being too annoying when I'm around you lol. I dunno what it is. But yea, all the courtesy of driving people around and giving up parts of your meals aside, you make great company and keep the room entertaining, especially with the reactions you give to people and games. It was hilarious when you were trying a Wario Ware game for the first time, even if it baffled me that you had never played one before. One last eternal high five to you for discovering the BOOTS BOOST! YEA!

Rob: Thanks for driving me around at my request so much and being fun to hang out with at the center. It's great that so many people want Earthbound next year, because I'm always entertained by your streams of it. Keep on trucking with those shmups, too! Can't wait to make you try out more! Wink That Mickey run was incredible after you got over your nerves, btw.

Moooh: While not technically a "replacement for Frezy", you were a unique individual who also had some great sex appeal and it was great having you in the marathon room so much.

Skullboy: Thanks for the driving trips you made during MAG. Extra thanks for sitting down and talking with me as I was practicing for runs in the big room; otherwise, I would've been doing so in silence and it wouldn't have been a good simulation of marathon room conditions.

Carc: That bird game you got for the Famicom better be the best purchase you made in your life. Wink Also huge thanks on the Korean bbq, even if I ended up being too sick to eat much of it.

Breakdown: Big bummer on not being able to go to MAG. You are always one of the most continually cheery people I know. Good job getting over your rough spots in LttP practice, and I highly admire your manly approach to the final battle, even if it ended up not paying off until a few tries in. Make sure you get your revenge on DMC next time!

Vorpal: Thanks for selling me Japanese SotN so I can start working on some runs I've wanted to do for a while. Additional thanks for having so little faith in me at the marathon that you bet on me losing to Dethyl. Thanks to that, the SotN disc seemed extra cheap and felt even better. Wink Also, it was fun hanging out with you as a Cave shmup bro at MAG.

Flip: Thanks for finally trying a Cave shmup at MAG! Sorry I didn't jump in on all your party games, but the ones I did that with were incredibly fun. Bummer that you got mad sick (and possibly made me sick Sad ) but hopefully next time will be better. Tons of fun hanging out with you.

Trekhaak: Congrats on the BK run being so good that you got an interview! I hope that Tickle Me Elmo you found was worth it. Cheesy You were hilarious when you talked, so talk more! You are also very kind, and a lot less... worry-some than you are on skype. lol

UraniumAnchor: Sorry I didn't snag Mystery Quest that last day since I was sick. Your knowledge of Castelian still puzzles me lol. You were a great addition to the MAG team, even though I didn't see you there much except for in the challenge corner sometimes.

Pablo: Doubt you'll read this, but you are quite the character and it's great that you are very diverse in your food and beer. Sorry I didn't play your TGM2 board when it was in the machine, but I'll maybe run into you at Arcade Infinity some this year and hopefully play your boards too.

Andy (AND4H): I only got to briefly say hi at MAG, as we were in separate worlds that were about 5 feet of actual space apart lol. I probably should've stopped by the challenge corner more to say hi more often. Oh well. It was cool meeting you.

PJ:

Rane: Whoever donated to name Kain "Reimu" instead of "Rane" is on my watch list to get shot. You were fun to be around, just like last year. It's pretty great that I was up way too long before our SotN race this year; it's almost like it's payback for last year lol. Make sure to work on that serious face, man!

Satoryu: You are definitely now a "BroTN" with Rane and me. You didn't talk too much throughout the whole marathon, but we definitely chatted way too much for at least 2 of the days and that was a lot of fun. You're a pretty funny guy, you should be more open with everyone if you come again! I look forward to chatting with you more this year and competing with you on SotN runs.

Puwexil: You're very easy to talk to about anything going on, and that's a great attribute to have. *brofist*

Aleckermit: Sorry I didn't really prepare for Mario Kart 64, but the GP was still fun! Don't think I was getting mad or anything with all my cussing; I was just tired and that's normally how I talk when I play MK64 anyway. I'll make sure to prepare more next time so we can have another go! Nice finish to your OoT race, as well. Extra thanks for being easy to talk to and being pretty open with a lot of people during the event.

Jiano, RG, Cosmo, Kirk: I know I didn't talk much with any of you, but we had a few conversations here and there during practice runs and the actual runs turned out very impressive. Nice job on the OoT commentating, Kirk. I just hope you guys all talk more in the marathon room next time, because you are generally all entertaining individuals when you want to be.

PEACHES: Indirectly the MVP on Essentia's CT run. You were pretty straightforward and funny just like on your streams.

Cody Miller: Good job hanging in there after the Halo disaster and crushing MGS2. You made the place really fun for the rest of the marathon. I love the little antics you voluntarily did when you were in the marathon room! I know you'll do great on all your games if you come again, and I look forward to seeing you at the next one.

Tigger77: Always a pleasure to talk to you, and of course it was great to watch you demolish Link's Awakening. That Eagle's Tower fiasco was unfortunate but also hilarious. It was so funny having to think about everything the engine could be doing to that poor iron ball lol. I'm glad you liked the glitched run, especially since you used to hate the concept. I look forward to hanging out with you again in the future!

Radix: It was nice seeing you again. It's funny seeing how calm you always are despite how hectic things around you may be. Thanks for the very generous donation during the stream, too!

Arkarian: Didn't speak with you as much as last year, but you were very entertaining when you were on cam during the marathon.

Biospark: Sorry I didn't really talk with you much considering you were the only other Chicago rep at the marathon, but your Fusion run was great, and you were pretty funny when talking with the other m2k2 guys.

neskamikaze: I spoke with you on and off during practice runs mostly and enjoyed every bit of it. Your marathon performances were great; even the Tetris Attack one!

Dballin: You showed just how deserving you are to have the last name of "Balls". I loved the short time we were able to spend with you.

Arrow: You had great presence doing commentary, and it was fun watching your practice runs of MM9 in the other room. Good job opening with SMG2, even with all the deaths. There's a lot more pressure than one would think in opening up a marathon of this size.

Molotov: I REALLY hope you start being more adventurous with food one of these days. x_x Either way, it was nice seeing you again, and it'll be even better next year when we have GODU HANDU!!!

Nitrodon: Cute mimiga mask, nice Cave Story run. Say hi to your cat for me.

Axel Ryman: I didn't talk with you much, but you were very friendly to me and it was nice watching you practice KH2 sometimes. You were very easy to get along with and I'll make sure to try and be around you more next time.

Sinister: Hardly got to say a word to you this year, but your ass kicking run speaks for itself and I'll make sure to speak to you more next time.

Feasel: Thanks for the snackage and I'm glad I got to hang around you more and talk to you more than I did last year. Your RCR run with Rane was gold.

SMK: I really wish you could have stuck around for KSS and played since everyone but Em trolled me lol. Thanks for keeping things light in the marathon room even as you were viciously taking on those new donations! I didn't see every part of your Pokemon run but what I saw of it was pretty great (plus I saw THE most important part Wink ).

Flicky: You had the most amazing intro of anyone in tjp's car, but everything else was pretty cool, too. It was awesome being in the marathon room with you, as there was never a dull moment.

Josh: God-tier on sleep cam. CV series was slick as expected, but it was definitely surprising how hardcore you were taking everything in the practice room lol. I'm glad the Castle Crashers run impressed you. Grin Let's hope for some Jim Powers or BSB next time!

Sir VG: Good job on your race wins. Interesting cosplay choices, too. You definitely should've chilled in the big room to watch the marathon with us more instead of being in the hallway so much, but it was fun to talk to you when I could.

MatrixTN: FUNKY!

Ani: You know, I was feeling pretty good with the 130 avg I was having with both my right and left hand on that button mashing test... then you had to come along and start having unspeakable numbers on it! O_O You and Heidman seem to be leagues ahead of everyone else in that department. I am definitely impressed with not only your button mashing, but also how funny you generally are as a person. It was always entertaining to be around you... especially when Dora was demolished before your eyes! Wink

Heidman: I've never seen anyone take their marathon runs so seriously lol (ok, maybe Josh). I'm sure it must've been a riot watching me make funny bloopers in MMX after you so rigorously tried to prepare running it the day before. Great runs, and it was fun hanging out with you for the days you were there. It's good to know I'm "one of your favorites" :p (according to that little video recording you were doing).

Andrewg: Sorry I dropped out of the SMW race with you. I'm sure it would have been a great race, but I was 1 day warrior'ing the PS3 controller in preparation for the SotN race, and I'd rather look good losing that race than happening to win the SMW race and look bad in my main game. Maybe next year. You are always pretty chill and fun to be around, and this marathon was no exception.

Tri-hex: You didn't seem quite as into the photojournalism as last year but it was still really fun to watch you destroy YI and generally just be funny as usual otherwise.

Aitamen: Thanks for making so many great prizes. I might commission some stuff from you this year depending on what mood I'm in. :v

cyghfer: Look above for explanation of why I dropped SMW. :p Thanks for the support during the marathon.

Samm: It's cool that you made an account here and enjoyed the marathon enough to want to come to the next one. Additional thanks for that silly donation comment you left me as I was on the main commentator spot. :p

Tiki: I know you'll rage so hard watching the MMX run and it'll be fantastic. I hope you laugh at least as much as I was while all the funny stuff was happening.

Frezy: *brofist*

Withhelde: You brought out some of your big smilies too early... I mean, you brought out some 12/10s during practice runs we had the week before the marathon. Your overall marathon performance was actually a little lackluster. That's ok though, we still love you. (´∀`)

mike89: Great job on the RKA race. I missed having my kangaroo at this marathon, so you better get to the next one!

Anyone I forgot: You were either a great ninja at the marathon or I just have a very bad memory. Either way, I enjoyed time with everyone at the marathon and MAG and will be happy to see you all again someday.

Seriously though, if this list is missing anyone... how? D:
Willing to teach you the impossible
Because I am me and I would rather respond than to do things the normal way, I has make my comments this way...

Quote from neskamikaze:
Heidman: Had a nice talk while I was practicing for Tony Hawk 2. It's great to see someone else who very obviously takes a lot of pride in there runs and doesn't want to settle for subpar. Also, thanks for offering a ride even though we ended up not needing it.

As I have said before, watching you play along with that chat we has was really inspiring for me. It really did make me look at my current runs a bit different. Thank you for that and I hope you gain some consistency to help you with your runs.

Quote from cyghfer:
heidman - you're a cooler guy than i've been thinking. your mashing is so good that bullets disappeared on stream due to fps restrictions, and even though i know you think your runs were shit, me and everyone else included was very impressed, nice job.

Kinda weird to find out that you disliked me in a way... But I guess that can't be helped how I come off in the forums. As for my runs, they were entertaining, but far from perfect like I wanted them to be. I knew I would not get perfect runs, but I was REALLY hoping for much better than what I did.

Quote from Rakuen:
Heidman: You are Contra.  Full stop.

Thanks, but not yet. Working on it though. Perhaps by the end of this year Wink

Quote from Arrow:
AndrewG, Jiano, Heidman, and Trihex - Everyone who participated was awesome at the games they ran, but you guys are on another level altogether. It was an honor to watch you guys perform in person.

Thank you. This is really a great complement to receive from another runner.

Quote from Trekhaak:
Heidman – Thanks for picking me up at the airport and taking me on several foodruns. You have skills, sir.

Food runs were fun. And that I missed the 4-H center on the way back on one of them... and many other fun stuffs.

Quote from Flicky:
Heidman - You're the craziest and most unique person on the planet and your strive for perfection is so amazing. You're an awesome guy and your runs are too. I don't think you can even play games normally anymore and your list of games to speedrun is baffling. Thanks to you (and trihex) my Bayonetta run is going to take even longer to record. Thanks for offering to take me to the bus again.

It is great to know that I have inspired some one while I was there. And I hope for my own sanity that you are wrong about me playing games normally... But I really do think you are right. My list of runs really really needs to get smaller. Or I need to get a "plan" on how to run them all with great outcomes a bit faster. For now, I will just work on 3 at most... If I can manage to do that that is.

Quote from Skullboy:
Romscout and Heidman - Thanks for letting me watch you two practice and ask questions. I loved watching your runs (well, the ones I was awake for).

Others asking questions makes the run more fun. People should do it more often imo.

Quote from UltraJMan:
Heidman: I wish I could've talked to you more cause you are an awesome dude. Your Contra and Super C runs were just mind blowing and I literally can't fathom how you found either of them to be bad runs, your skill is pretty much unparalleled and all I can say is keep on doing what you do and don't be so hard on yourself!

I would pretty much say to you as I said to cyghfer. I know they were good, but not what I wanted... Thanks though. I am prolly one of the best Super C players, but Contra has much work to be done. Frezy is still king on that playing field.

Quote from sinister1:
Heidman - Very nice to finally meet you. Watching you play was awesome, your mashing is so ridiculous. I admire your drive for perfection and that you never settle for good enough. Keep pushing the limits.

Damn I have been waiting to meet you for a while. Again, thanks for the complements. And me pushing so much is getting me no where with my runs...

Quote from Axel Ryman:
Heidman: I didn't talk with you much, but you're definitely interesting in person. It was strange seeing you in person though cause I almost didn't recognize you. X2 was definitely a good game to watch up close. Thanks for the food run to BK.

Live vs. Ustream is so different. I watched all of last years marathon and the only people I knew just from looking at them was molotov and mike. No one looked like they did in the vids.

Quote from PJ:
Heidman - Co-op Contra and Super C was such a blast.  That was incredibly fun, even if we only made it a few levels into the game.  Hahaha.  Sorry I kept making you laugh and threw off your button mashing, but I had to do whatever it took to make myself look superior.  You're a really funny guy and you have so much talent.  Try to not be so hard on yourself; you do very good work.

I dream of co-oping Contra and Super C. Every chance I get I want to play 2 player but finding some one to do it with is really hard. And once it starts, we almost never get anywhere, lol. You are a riot to be around as well. I don't think I could ever co-op anything with you really, unless I had game audio head set with noise blockers over them so I could not hear you lol.

Quote from romscout:
Heidman: I've never seen anyone take their marathon runs so seriously lol (ok, maybe Josh). I'm sure it must've been a riot watching me make funny bloopers in MMX after you so rigorously tried to prepare running it the day before. Great runs, and it was fun hanging out with you for the days you were there. It's good to know I'm "one of your favorites" :p (according to that little video recording you were doing).

I should have raced you... You would have performed better. It was fun though almost getting a full rout planned in a day. Almost had it done too. Just needed to get the last stage before sigma figured out, and I would have been golden. But I still think it was for the best that you soloed it. Favs = ppl I chat with on a regular basis. Mostly because I am most familiar with them.

But really, EVERY one that was at the marathon was fun to be around. Being around other how UNDERSTAND what speedrunning is about and the work that goes into it who can appreciate it is truly a great feeling. Just knowing some one is not blowing you off when the topic is brought up is almost unreal because of how much it happens when not talking to a speedrunner (EVERY FUCKING TIME Sad ). Thank you all for your time in helping make the event a truly memorable one. I honestly can't think of a time when I had more fun (closest thing was gym class in high school, and my teachers could vogue for that, almost like I was in another world really). Most shout outs I made in person while I was there, so not much to say them all again. Thanks again for this community. And from what was said and happened there, I know others feel the same way too Wink

My feelings on The Demon Rush
Okay, so I need to post here, let's go.

First off, I want to thank everyone who took the time to come here. I know it wasn't easy for everyone, getting here, and keeping things under control once we were here, but for the most part you all stayed cool, and you are the man (or wo-man!) for coming down here and devoting your time, whether it was for a game, commentary, donations, or taking care of chat. No matter what you did, your time was appreciated.

Second, I want to apologize to anyone I didn't have the chance to talk to for very long. Between everything happening in the marathon, I didn't get a lot of chances to just sit down and chat.

Third, I want to apologize for not singing that much during the marathon. I was preoccupied with other things. :-/

I'm sorry if I forgot anyone, but there were a lot of people.

Breakdown: What can I say? You're the man, and you held shit down when I did this stupid thing called, "sleep." Sad It was cool discussing how the marathon went/was going with you, and hopefully we can discuss how to improve next year's.  Don't worry, you will get your DMC salty runback next year!

Flicky: I'm not kidding when I say you were this year's Breakdown. You did a great job on commentary and you're a chill guy to hang out with too. Hope you had fun in New York.

Trekhaak: Glad you were part of the fried intestine crew. It was cool talking to you and glad you learned some Japanese listening to Shonen Knife. Wink Meow Meow Meow! Also you should do more commentary next year! You're relaxed and you would be good at it!

Moooh: How do you manage three chats at once? Do you have 2 brains, six eyes, and 10 hands? Seriously though, holding down the chat at peak hours was incredibly impressive. You're also a funny guy to talk to, and I'm glad you got to buy some american microbrews at Chevy Chase Wine and Liquor.

PJ: We need to sneak in Lagood for next year's marathon. People must know the story of Nasir and muddy water (totally not caused by rain). It was cool talking to you about random games and SDA stuff. Color a Dinosaur was definitely a marathon highlight, and without it, the marathon would have been done. You're a funny guy and you should do more commentary next year, maybe even get on the commentator's chair!

MatrixTN: You did a good job commentating for your Thexder Neo run, very informative. Also, I really hope you remember what I told you and use that advice.

Skullboy: I feel more enlightened on all matters Genesis and Mega Drive after talking to you. And don't worry, you don't have to run poverty games to be a SDA member, but you're cooler if you do. Wink

Flip: Repeat after me. Castelian is not a good game. Don't worry, Cookie and Cream still is. Cheesy In all seriousness it was cool hanging out and talking with you, too bad we didn't have the time to do so until I was taking you to the airport. Stupid sleep schedules. D:

Mickey_Mage: Now I regret doing this stupid thing called eating instead of watching your Magical Quest run! You really rocked that game! You rocked it so hard SDKess donated 50 dollars for it! If you come next year, you can run Earthbound. I think we talked more than we did last year, but we still didn't talk very much. :-/

Dora Destroyer 7154: A gentleman as always. You don't get the shuttle service award this year, but you definitely did your fair share of transporting people around. As always, it was a pleasure talking to you. I'll do better at Sunset Riders next year. :-/

Josh the Sleepchamp: Seriously, I don't get it. How did you manage to sleep everywhere for 8+ hours with just a sleeping bag? I guess it brought in some donations during SM64 120 star so it's all good. On a more serious note, you did a great job doing commentary for the games you knew, very informative and enlightening. Next year I'll be down for Jackie Chan's Fist of Fire 2, and I'll see Flip perfect you. Tongue

neskamikaze: Supporting those random n64 games, eh? I saw you playing some Bomberman Hero while KirkQ watched, don't deny it. Actually you're a really cool guy, I just wish you could have hung out longer during the marathon. Also, sorry about your room situation. Hopefully it all worked out in the end.

Carcinogen: Talking to you during MAGFest was cool. You're a pretty cool guy to talk to. Also I'm glad you got over your fears of intestine and tried it out. Oh, and thanks for putting the 72-pin connector on my NES.

MercuryZelda: I think you're the only person who I didn't have time to talk to simply because you were knitting every single time I saw you. Those plushies you made were great, and I'm sure your new knitting business will be very successful!

Lag.Com: The jig is up! You're like 30984304983 times nicer in person than you are online. You also act about 30 years younger, as if you're in your mid-20's. Wink Seriously though, you're a very nice, cheerful guy, and you should play the role more often online! Also, you did a great job handling the tech duties at the marathon.

Jiano: I guess you didn't need to worry about gamefaqs, because 120-star got picked. I'm definitely sad I missed that run, because that was a run I really wanted to watch live. However, I'm glad I at least got to see 1-star, which was some good stuff. Sorry we didn't really get to talk aside from me renewing you and runnerguy's room key. :X

Aleckermit: You did really well in Mario Kart 64. Sorry we didn't get much time to talk, but I was busy running around. Hope you can come back next year, though I don't think I'll allow Shadows of the Empire. Tongue

PEACHES_: I'm glad we had your UPS during the marathon, it ended up saving Chrono Trigger! Don't worry, I still have the thing, I'll ship it soon.

KirkQ: I'm glad you got to see Lagoon, the SDA legend. And Alternative Beast shouldn't scare you, it chronicles SDA history.

Cosmo: Sorry I didn't stay up for Monkey Ball, but I was passing out. I definitely regret missing that run. Sad I'll definitely watch the recording now that it's available.

Andrewg: It was awesome having you over as always. Next year you can do Rush 'n Attack and I'll sing for you. How does that sound?

UraniumAnchor: One of the people who discovered the free breakfast club. It was cool hanging out with you and talking about marathon stuff. Don't worry, I didn't mind hearing your suggestions on improving the marathon because almost all of them were good. Now if I could remember all of them, that would be another thing. BTW, how do you know so much about Castelian? It's about as obscure as you can get as far as NES games go.

Pootrain, PJ's BFF 4 lyfe Poopoo chuchu rocket - It was cool hanging out with you during the marathon and MAGFest. You were definitely one of the most chill people - you always seemed relaxed no matter what was going on. Seeing you run through Trials HD was seriously impressive. I know you say there's 600 or so people better than you, but none of them went through all of the courses with minimal retries in one shot. Now that you're back in England, who is going to play Lawnmower man with PJ?

Feasel: It was cool finally being able to talk to you this year, you're a cool guy to chat with. I also like how you were the oldest guy at the marathon and you simply didn't care (sorry Sir VG Tongue ) Sorry about your car, but at least you got hold of someone and it was repaired. I'll try out Limbo when I have the chance, it really does look like a good game, and I can always trust a guy who hates Braid as much as me. Smiley

Denton: The real take-out taxi. Seriously, that was amazingly selfless of you to go out on so many food runs. I did one food run to subway and I was done with them for life.

RaneofSOTN: The man who manned both the commentary and donations computer during late night shifts, ran a ton of games, and clutched our finale, what more can I say? You're a great guy and I'm glad you came to this marathon. Here's for hoping you can come to the next one.

Denton's wife, Essentia (or is it husband? Wink ): You did a great job crushing Chrono Trigger, despite arkarian, the power to the 4-H center and Lavos being a jerk to you. Sorry about mentioning the bathroom near the end of your run, that probably just served as a painful reminder. I'm sorry I missed Lego Star Wars II, I really wanted to see that, but that's what I have the recording for. I heard it was casualtastic, just like Castle Crashers! Cheesy

Arrow: Sorry I grilled you so hard for SMG2, I just wanted the marathon to be success, which it was. You did a really good job on the commentary chair. If you come to the next marathon, you're always welcome, especially on the commentator's chair.

Molotov: Next year you're doing GODDO HANDO, no questions asked.

Cody Miller: You're a really cool guy...once you learned how a marathon worked. Tongue I'm really shocked you didn't see Classic Games Done Quick or know who I was. Let's just say the mercy kill rule is now being renamed the Halo rule (I haven't seen the run yet, but I'm about to watch it). You were a good sport about Halo though, and you did a good job on your other runs and commentary.

Stanski: My Alternative Beast <3. Maybe not after turtles debacle. You overtook tjp7154 this year as the 24/7 shuttle service and you did a great job on commentary. I can't believe you were such a good sport about shuttling everyone to the airport. It was also fun playing TSS and discovering I suck with Griffon, but I always beast you with Arthur. I would have scored 30-game win streaks on people like you did if I had the time. Sad

P.S. That Samson fight was bullshit beginner's luck. Angry

Emptyeye: The man with the earth-shattering voice, or maybe I should say ear-shattering? In all seriousness, it was great seeing you again, and it was doubly great seeing you on the commentary chair again. The cape was god-like, and as always, you have a great voice for commentary...and shutting people up when they talk too much. Cheesy

I hope you liked what I did at your wedding, because I only do that for special occasions. Tongue

SMK: That donation program you provided really helped out this year, and it will only be better next year. Your Pokemon Yellow commentary was beast. Now I wish I was in the room during that run instead of playing TSS with stanski. :X

Heidman: You need to stop being so hard on yourself! Your runs were great, especially Super-C weaponless. Most people can't even imagine beating that game with the peashooter. I understand that you have high standards, but you can't expect to break a record at the marathon.

romscout: I would be more disappointed in myself for not streaming the game from the land of ZIPANG, but I streamed plenty of other poverty greatness. Also I know how to select stages. Tongue

dballin: It was cool talking to one of the members of the promote cancer among underage french girls foundation, and I hope the cape of Frezy_man blesses you and gives you speedrunning power.

UltraJMan: It was cool talking to you about random poverty games, and you showed me the best game ever, Cho Aniki: The Legend of the Holy Protein. Too bad that game is too good for streaming. And thanks for being there when I was waiting for pootrain and pablo at MAGFest, I think I would have gone crazy if I didn't have someone to rant about the Colossus meme with.

Arkarian: Uncharted 2 was pretty cool to watch, and you did a good job commentating on your own run. You were also a good sport playing Myst for the marathon, just don't mess with the switcher near the end of a 6-hour RPG the next time. Angry

Biospark: I heard you rocked the fusion, which is all I need to know.

Tigger77: Good to see that everything in America is stupid compared to Germany! In all seriousness, it was great to see you again. Your passion for SDA and speedrunning never ceases to amaze me. I'm glad I always have a spot in Ringelbach, center of the universe.

Nate: Good job on Metroid Prime, and thanks as always for helming the tech side of things. You did a great job of holding things down, even if your beard didn't. D:

Tri-Hex: I didn't see you playing the role of documentarian as much this year. Does this mean you actually took time to enjoy the marathon? Tongue In all seriousness, it was cool seeing you again. I swear one year I'll be up for Yoshi's Island. Sad

Animeowzerz: I'm glad I got to see Sly. Or at least half of it. :X Also, you're funny guy in person. I just wished I got to witness your button mashing skill on the watch. Sad

Vorpaledge: Sub-Terrania is a horrible game and you're delusional for thinking otherwise. You're okay I guess, since you did do a good job in RKA and beat me at the race. Also, have fun with Hokuto no Ken. Cheesy

Nyquil: Thank you for getting us around 800 dollars in donations during Castle Crashers.

Chipin: For taking minutes to load near the end of the marathon. Would a page system kill you guys?

Febreze: The marathon room wouldn't have smelled fresh without you. I have a newfound respect for your odor-killing power.

Subway: Thanks for being so close to the 4-H center, being a good alternative to Burger King, and being such good sports about taking 5-10 person orders.

The food situation at the 4-H Center: It went from, "oh no we'll have to sneak in food" to "we can order for a couple of people, but not the entire group" to "hey ask the front desk for menus of places that deliver to the center". I'm not kidding, that's how the situation evolved.

That bad Chinese food I ordered: Did a speedrun on my stomach. I didn''t think food could run through me so fast until then. Sad

The Practice Room: Thanks for being such a great room to practice sleeping in.

The couch: You were nice and comfy, a good replacement for the CGDQ couch.

Ants: It appears you all were hype about the marathon too. So much so that you made the trek from my house to the 4-H Center, through all of the people who didn't throw their food away. :-/

JH10: The few times I saw you, you actually weren't trolling and you were asking legitimate questions. That all ended soon enough after the marathon though.

Withhelde: I gotta agree with rom. You burned through your best smilies pre-marathon. You still had some decent ones saved up, so I give you a 4/10.

Colossus: Fuck you for making the most annoying roar sound in the X-men arcade game and double fuck-you to all of the people who thought it was a good idea making the roar a meme. You're probably the same people who think sniffing paint fumes is a good way to spend time. Angry

Fried Intestine with Chili Pepper: Why are you so delicious?

Sorry this took so long, but as you can see it's a long post and there's a lot of people to give shout-outs to (and I'm sure there's some I missed). Anyway, until next time.

neskamikaze: Supporting those random n64 games, eh? I saw you playing some Bomberman Hero while KirkQ watched, don't deny it. Actually you're a really cool guy, I just wish you could have hung out longer during the marathon. Also, sorry about your room situation. Hopefully it all worked out in the end.

After watching Banjo Kazooie, which I had to leave immediately before and was one of the runs I was most looking forward to, I have to give a big non-shoutout to you and Stanski for all your N64 hate. I would have been one of those people in the chat saying that the N64 is better than the Genesis, but that might just mean that I need to play than the 5-10 Genesis games I have ever played. Suggestions?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Okay there were of course a couple of people I forgot to mention.

Radix: Thanks for taking the time to come down to the marathon, and for your generous donation during Metroid Prime. I'm glad you thought I did a great job organizing the marathon, but honestly it was everyone who came that made it great.

Axel Ryman: You didn't have to be the target of my Metal Slug 3 rage because I resigned myself to most likely not 1cc'ing the game. It was cool meeting you even if we didn't get the chance to talk much.

neskamikaze: Haha, I make it no secret that I hate the N64. It's really weird that I ended up being on the commentator chair for Banjo-Kazooie, despite having never played the game.

Anyway here's some good Genesis games:

Sonic games (duh)
Rocket Knight Adventures
Streets of Rage 2
Gain Ground
Alisa Dragoon
Gunstar Heroes
Dynamite Headdy
Alien Soldier
Bonanza Bros.
Contra: Hard Corps (can get kinda boring though)
Revenge of Shinobi
Shinobi III
Crusader of Centy (haven't played it myself, but I've been told it's good)
Beyond Oasis (think zelda, but with more emphasis on action)
Earthworm Jim (Genesis has a level the SNES version doesn't have)
Ranger-X
Shadowrun (Genesis version is different from SNES, it's also better)
Vectorman

There, that's at least double the amount of good games the N64 has! (Yeah, I had to Tongue )

If Vorpaledge says Sub-Terrania, don't listen to him, he's a liar and a cad.
I will say that the N64 has a painfully small game library (I think only 300 in total), and its best games aren't even the ones I like. I've never finished OoT, never played MM, and barely even got into Goldeneye or Perfect Dark because I was so bad at them. I've played the Sonic games, Contra: Hard Corps and Vectorman from that list, but if you add Columns to that list those might be the only Genesis games I ever played (and Columns was my favorite of all of them).
We all scream for Eyes Cream

I just wanted a front row seat Tongue
Since I was an idiot and sent my comment to Paypal instead of Chipin, here is what I wanted to say:
Kudos for organizing such an amazing event. I had the stream running the whole sunday and enjoyed it a lot.

...Actually I am still watching and enjoying it. I'm watching all of the recordings and all runs are just that great. Thanks.
I can't wait for next year...
Professional Second Banana
I'd like to give an extra shoutout to all of the people that helped synch and encode the marathon videos (Aktan, DeliciousPi, Eisenefaust, UraniumAnchor, Samthe3rd, and of course nate).  From reading the synching thread it sounded like there were some technical challenges with missing/corrupted footage that they had to overcome; but the videos look great and I was amazed at how quickly they started to post.

Also, shoutout to UraniumAnchor for the awesome highlights/bloopers videos.  I know it took him a lot of time and energy to put them together, and it definitely shows in the quality!
Willing to teach you the impossible
Is it bad that I can't read any post without hearing that persons voice in my head now?
Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
^I want to know this experience.  So no, I don't think it's bad at all.
train kept rollin
So I think I might be the last person to post here who was at the marathon because im lazy.
So here we go.

mikwuuuuuoaaaaaarryma: All around awesome dude, Thanks for putting together this event and letting me sleep on various floors in your house. Thanks for all the rides and introducing me to some of the best foods. Also thanks for waiting up for me on the last night at MAGfest. P.S shock collar

Carcinogen: I wish I had been able to stay awake for RE 1-3. Your an interesting guy to talk to on the few times that we did. Thanks for the food on the last night. Sorry if I pissed you off about that ign article and good luck finding kojima.

Flip: Was really cool to put a person to the name. A super nice person at that and I always enjoyed hearing your take on stuff.

MercuryZelda:  You are a machine. (a sewing machine get it? Oh wait that doesn’t work V_V)  While most people were playing games or sleeping or gaming you were knitting for the cause. Now please make more podcasts : )

LagDotCom: Bla bla bla really nice in person.  Gotta give a certain amount of respect to anyone who has hair that long.  Also you are either damaging your eyes or giving your self some kind of mega vision, I guess the latter but seriously increase your font size.

Trekhaak: Didn’t really talk with you much but you seem like a nice guy and your BK run really wasn’t bad. Highlight: seeing your face light up when tickle me elmo started moving/talking.

Tigger77: Also didn’t really talk to much but I enjoyed your commentary and you’re a funny guy.

UraniumAnchor: It was cool hanging out with you at Mike’s/MAGfest thanks for all the marathon vids you synced and the highlights/bloopers videos. Look forward to hopefully hanging out in the future.

Emptyeye: Such a good personality for the marathon and runner. It wouldn’t have been the same with out you.

Flicky: It was cool to be able to fly out with someone even if most the time we were just watching films. Probably should have hung out more their. I think we almost had exact opposite sleeping patterns.

nate: Really appreciate what you do/did for the marathon and sda. The one time we spoke you were cool. Which reminds me I need to order an m2k2 shirt when I have money to spare.

moooh: king of chat/donation monitor you needed more screen time for sure, will try and catch your streams from now on.

SMK: Didn’t interact with you at all but your commentary was arguably the best and certainly the most informative at the marathon.

VorpalEdge: Sub terrania is bad. And not in a good way.

tri-hex: Even if it didn’t all go to plan I enjoyed crash 2. Super funny, and I enjoyed just listening to you and PJ talk pokemon, yu-gi-oh and what ever else we were yammering on about.

Arrow:  I enjoyed all your runs. And your commentary, you should defiantly be on the chair/couch more next time.

neskamikaze: wish I was as good as you at TH games. It was super fun getting beat by you in ssbm. You trying to land Ganondorfs Up+A on me for about 6 matches was hilarious. Hope to chill with you in the future.

Breakdown: Shame you couldn’t have stayed longer you’re a really good mix of cool, funny and good at games.

Puwexil: Although we didn’t really talk much till the last couple of days. It’s always fun to hate and complain about stuff that we both went through.

Feasel: Was really cool talking Rock Band and Limbo strats with you. Hope to see a run soon.

stanski: Really nice dude seriously. Sorry I missed Sonic 2 and thanks for kicking my ass in TTS I will get a round on you one day. It was always fun to watch/listen to you play anything.

UltraJman: My PUNrtner in crime. You make even the worst games look fun. Your knowledge of the crap and the obscure amazes me. Keep on being awesome.

Tjp7154: Seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. Always giving lifts or taking people for food. Thanks for picking me up from the airport. Always funny and cool to talk to. You also had some pretty good puns on the way to 4H. BOOTS BOOST!

Josh the Funkdoc: Your commentary just during your practise runs was amazing. I wish I had watched all your runs live.

Heidman: I wish I knew any game as well as you know your games. As a runner you inspire me to be more demanding of myself. Keep it up.

Denton: Super selfless. Thanks for all the food runs and putting up for a bunch of nerds for 4 days. You are the best.

Essentia: We hardly spoke but you were really nice and I gotta admire anyone who can plan/execute a 6 hour+ run.

Kareshi:  The Doctor Jones of videogames. Even for games I’d never played your maps were interesting. And your piano playing/running was really entertaining.

Animeowzerz: Thank you for letting me use your PS2 to practise on. One of the funniest guys their, even in the face of your run getting blown out of the water right in front of you.

Cody Miller: Talking HighSpeedHalo/in general with you was really cool hope we can hang out next year.

PJ: My Lawnmower MAN. The way you talk just makes me laugh (not cos you sound dumb or anything just your humour)  You need to be on stream 400% more next time. You make anything you are playing entertaining and playing Lawnmower Man was some of the most fun I had. Co-op run next year?

romscout: It was fun hanging out with you, sorry you got sick towards the end.

aleckermit: It was a shame we only started talking right before you had to leave. Talking Zelda and the glitch demonstrations you gave were super interesting. Good luck getting that pre-release MM cart.

PEACHES_: It was really fun getting my butt kicked in ssbm and thanks for the pointers rather then being LOL NOOB.

RaneofSOTN:  You did an awesome job at the marathon, I so wanted you to pull off that glitch on SOTN to get you back in the race. Sorry for damaging you with so many puns.

Skull boy: thanks for the rides and the food man. It was cool watching you play Knuckles Choatix?

Radix: It was really cool meeting the creator of the site and talking with you.

andrewg:  It was a shame you couldn’t stick around longer. But during the short time we chatted you seemed really cool. Congrats on the 4:59 and future 4:58.

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone I hope I can find a way to come next year.

wise fwom yo gwave
neskamikaze: believe it or not i owned an n64 and not a playstation back in the day. The genesis just gets no love because of all the nintendo heads and people still think the genesis had nothing on the SNES which is a joke obviously. I can't really list good games because i'm not sure what genre's interest you, but the genres where the genesis was strong:
Platformers (pretty obvious)
run n gun shooters
beat em ups/action arcade type games

genres where its ok:
some shmups (thunderforce 2-4 is a good beginners type hori shmup and there are a ton of ports)
fighting games (again mostly ports)
action rpgs (beyond oasis, landstalker)

genres where its weak:
RPG's (snore who cares and i guess some people like some of the tactical rpgs or something? wouldn't know they are all boring)

So yea, there are some real gems on the genesis, many of which don't have runs on the site. It definitely was a system i liked because it had all the arcade ports and sports games while the SNES was stuck with kiddie mario games and mortal kombat without blood!

It's time for some HEErooooOOOOHi cs!

My feelings on The Demon Rush
stanski: For people who like strategy RPGs I hear Shining Force 1 and 2 are supposed to be some of the best games around. I haven't played them myself, but everyone who has played them really likes them.
Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
Yeah, for SRPGs the genesis also has Warsong, which while a little slow compared to modern games, is still a great challenge.  SF is further in that direction (it's really slow compared to modern games, but it's amazingly well-made, for what it is and the system restrictions)

Also, I think the Genesis RPG collection, while a little sparse, does contain Phantasy Star 2-4, which I really enjoyed (4>2>3, like most people), as well as a fair number of ARPGs from various groups, which ranged from addictive to trails of insanity >_>.

I'd also throw in Lunar, which is amazing, but it's SEGACD, which is only part genesis~

I've been taking some time to try out some of the games Mike put on that list. Platformers are my big thing but I was never able to really get into the Sonic games. 2 was my favorite but even that I never bothered to play enough to beat it. I really liked Rocket Knight Adventures and Ristar and beat them both, though a lot of the other games there I wasn't to fond of. I've heard a lot of good things here about Dynamite Heady and Gunstar Heroes but neither of those really caught my attention. The game I've really gotten hooked on though is one Mike didn't mention, and that's Marvel Land. I actually really want to run and would think of getting my hands on a Genesis to do so. I've already got my full route planned out and probably wouldn't take too long to get a good run.

This will be the short version of my final shout-outs:

This marathon was very cool.  Funny how it seemed like just as much work as last year's (because of the Magfest fiasco).  I'm glad so many people came and supported the marathon by playing games and even watching them (yes, you DID support).

Sorry about giving people colds, though.

I hope to attend the next marathon in some capacity.  I can't promise that I'll be able to put as much into it as I did this year, but I want at least some part.  I set aside 2 weeks of "vacation" and put a lot of work and energy into driving, hauling, thinking and supporting Mike and everyone else.

I like that there weren't any real issues with people getting along.  I'm sure things could go wrong with all the different personalities.  Everyone was really cool, though.

Sorry about my TV (the one we used for the main TV) -- it's light enough in my apartment at least :/

Yeah, overall it was a good experience.  I hope to see new faces next marathon.  Maybe our token Micronesian speedrunner!!!
1-Up!
lol I've been putting off shoutouts since I got home bc I want to do it justice and not slap something together >_>

Maybe this week...
Seems like all games have been uploaded except for Dr Mario.
