Dear Essentia,

It's about the last paragraph of your comments. I wish you hadn't written the lines, and I ask you please to delete them. I know a lot of communities in real life, where discussions about religion and politics are discouraged, because 'they only cause fights'. In my humble opinion, SDA, especially speedruns featured on SDA and their comments should be that kind of place.

My criticism is not directed against you or your religion; it is directed only towards the fact that you are talking about a religion (no matter which).

I'm not a regular poster in this forum (as you've problably already guessed), but I read the SDA news regularly and every now and again, I take a look around in here. I really wouldn't want the idea to catch on.

Welcome to America.  If you don't like it, DON'T READ IT.  Sheesh.

Should I fix my ActRaiser comments because I quoted the New International Version bible?  Should I edit my Kirby - Nightmare in Dream Land comments because I was talking about a minister?

Give me a break.  If she wants to talk about herself a bit in her comments (be it her family, live, church), the by all means she should have the right to.
Waiting hurts my soul...

I agree.  Those are author comments, not SDA comments.  If they bother you that much though you could always beat the run and post your own.

@Essentia: what's keeping XII from being submitted?  Also, are you going to be doing any others?

The main reason I'm not submitting is because I didn't record it. Wink  Also, it was just a test run, so it had plenty of mistakes.  I learned quite a bit from it, though, and I'm planning to work on it some more, so maybe someday you'll see a run of it from me.  And yes, I'm planning to do other runs, but not necessarily of Final Fantasy games.

Thanks for the defense, Lord_VG and ZenicReverie.  I knew some people would probably get upset because of that last paragraph in my comments, but honestly, I'm used to people getting upset about my religion (although I acknowledge that you weren't saying anything against my religion, Alko, for which I thank you).  Like I said in my comments, I'm not trying to convert anyone - I just want to help people be more informed, if they so choose.  I'm definitely not the first runner to talk about my personal life in my comments, and I hope I'm not the last.  Besides, if SDA will post comments like the ones for Mega Man 3, why should there be a problem with mine? Hmm...this'll be a great watch like all the others I suspect.  Also torrenting despite being curious about sweden's majestic presence.

If you live outside of Scandinavia/western europe you're not going to get better speeds from my FTP. Just because it's located in Sweden it won't magically allow everyone to max their connections. Also, Enhasa forgot to mention that the mirror is temporary since I'm hosting it on my private connection. I offered nate to help SDA with runs that are going to be very popular and suck bandwidth from SDA like a leech sucks blood, but only for the first 3-4 days of the run's release.
Look at it from another direction. Author comments should have something to do with the run - and the mormon bit has no relevence whatsoever. Besides, it's incredibly rude to come in and try to push your religion in someone's face.

Do keep in mind the precedent that letting this go would establish - letting people turn comments into their own personal soapbox, which has nothing to do with the site's function.
I dunno where you're from Thos, but here in America, we have these things called "freedoms". Speech and religion immediately come to mind.
I'm not a big fan of the church either, but if they want to post something about it, let them. As Lord_VG said before: YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ IT!

..also I'd say this discussion about has nothing to do with the run of this game, I'm right? Complain to Essentia via PM or to the admins, but pls stop posting this stuff in this thread(/be offend to the religions of other). Wink

Wow, shut the fuck up. So much random reactionism. Learn not to take things personally. I really hated reading it, and you know what I did? Nothing. Because people do not care what I would say. And they don't care what you said either. Drop it.

Last comment on this subject.

As Essentia pointed out, look at MM3 comments... nothing to do with the run..
Most of the FFX comments are about the run except for the first and last paragraph, so should we require the first to be removed too?
Honestly, just because someone mentions their religion doesn't mean they're trying to push it as you say.
Should we remain faceless runners where we are only known for our runs and not for the depth of our humanity...
In any case, this...

Back on topic now... Does it not matter to name your characters single letter names to speed up the text?  I mean, there is a lot of text where each character's name is displayed.  Of course it may not speed it up at all, I don't know.

Well, ahem. Lag was a little... overzealous when replying, but generally what he says is right. The comments are called "Author's comments" and not "comments about the run" for a reason - they are the runner's personal space, and said runner is entitled to write what he wants (as long as the runner doesn't insult anyone). You don't have to read all the comments, so chill out.

The only character that you can rename (besides aeons, but their names never show up in dialogue) is Tidus.  I tested renaming him and even removing speakers' names from the subtitles (which is an option in the config menu), but it makes no difference because the entire speaker's name appears instantly on the screen, while what they say scrolls onto the screen.  I also tried removing subtitles entirely, but for some strange reason when you do this, the game doesn't allow you to skip the dialogue at all.

We can argue about speech and religion with the current governmental administration if you want, but for now yes, they are free =]

Also, congrats on the run! I can't wait to watch it in full...  Though they dialogue is a bit annoying... haha.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Awesome, the run is finally here, will download the HQ videos and try to make some time to watch it entirely as soon as possible.
100% runs=great to watch
Excellent work on the run Essentia.  Pay no mind to people randomly lashing your personal comments as they've clearly missed the point.  Seriously, of all the strange things I've seen happen on SDA over the years this "issue" is one of the most head shaking worthy by far.

I haven't started the download yet, my school has a freakign bandwidth limit. X_x;
Luckily, you don't have to sign in at the Library and I have an external Harddrive. Guess where I'm going tomorrow~~

Either way, I've seen the previews and your previous speedruns.  I'm really looking forward to this... and good luck with FFXII or any other projects!
Plus, another thing with Tidus's name...
It's never said throught the entire game. So even then, it's not saving anything.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music

I can't forget something that nobody ever told me. Undecided Also, if you want to offer something and want me to know about it, it would make a lot more sense to ask me directly like the last guy who helped out with bandwidth.

To be honest, I appreciate people donating bandwidth but don't really see the point since it doesn't save us any money. But Nate thinks that it looks very bad if download speeds from dl are low, and while I don't really see this (especially since there's archive + torrents already), I go ahead and trust his opinion over mine in matters like this. So thanks again. Tongue

Took me about 10 minutes total to download all of the segements (normal quality). Looking forward to this, thanks all Tongue

Oh, I thought nate relayed all the information. Anyway, I will kill the FTP on Sunday at 15:00 CET. Once I have another system up and running I can provide more permanent mirroring, because right now I'm running it on my main system and I need to do some speedrunning this weekend Tongue

I beg your pardon for saying something about that point of mine again, although you wanted to close the discussion. I guarantee it will be the last thing I say about it.

1. I know Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion. I live in Germany for your information, where we are happily experiencing both for almost sixty years now. And I know, that I can just not read, what I don’t like. But Freedom of Speech also includes the Freedom of criticism (if presented in an acceptable way) Wink .

2. True, I beg your pardon once again for not thinking of the possibility of a PM. I’m not in all too many forums, and tend to forget them everywhere.

3. I still believe that it was the wrong place to put it. I’ve got nothing against putting some personal life into one’s comments, but as I stated above, some topics should be kept outside. You need not stay a lifeless soul, just because you avoid talking about some very few things.

Have fun with the run Wink .

there was a retarded amount of planning going into this run. I'm simply amazed. Words can't even begin to describe. wow. Amazing 11/10

One thing I'm curious about...
Has your daughter started playing FF6 yet, to learn of her namesake?

Anyway, just started watching.  Absolutely amazing, and just... sheesh, looking at all the comments it's crazy how much planning was put into this run.  Brilliant job!
Bwhahahaha, I loved how you moved on the beat of the music with Letty in segment 10. Still watching the rest. Looks fantastic so far.

Honestly, I don't think I've played FF6 since she was born.  It'll just be a matter of time for her, though, since she already goes for the controllers whenever she can. Smiley

I rofl'd after reading the MM3 comments. Just thought I'd point out that the SDA MegaMan3 page is the first google result for ligerally o_O. I would've thought it would be somewhere else on the internet.
Random other thing i learned today: Abraham Lincoln invented the emoticon. Smiley
Oh, and congrats on the run. =D I have a 300 GB hard drive now (old was 160) so I'm gonna add all 9.74GB to my collection. First speedrun I've watched in a while at all. First long run I've watched without fast-forwarding since TSA's Ocarina of Time 5:04 (which was how I found SDA). Truly epic run that I've waited for for a long time. Thank you Essentia =D.
